PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN
The children’s programs of PUMC are well supervised and offer warm, caring, and fun atmospheres. INFANT AND TODDLERS care is in room 15 from 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. every Sunday. THREE – PRE-K AGED CHILDREN Sunday school is at 10:00 a.m. in room 20. CHILDREN GRADES K-5 “Bible Explorers” begins at 10:00 in the south hallway. Classrooms
are marked. Children may begin arriving 9:45 a.m. in room 107, the Gathering Place, for worship and music before class.
During all worship services in the sanctuary, activity bags for children are available from the ushers.
STUDENT MINISTRY PROGRAMS
Middle and High School students will find a worship experience led by Youth Pastor Bob Preusch and the student worship team at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday upstairs in room 200.

INSPECT WHAT YOU EXPECT PSALM 139 REV. ELIZABETH GILBERT
The ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates, said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” A more well-known quote, though, is “Ignorance is bliss”. Just imagine these two perspectives applied to the purchase of a home. Would you rather buy and live in a house that had never been inspected? Or would you prefer a home that had been completely examined? Most of us would rather know the condition of the home. When you are aware, you can make urgent repairs, schedule seasonal enhancements, and plan for improvements to meet your long-term needs. It’s the same with the condition of your faith. The examination of your soul gives you the opportunity to become more loving and Christ-like.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE The Inescapable God O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it. Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. GRIEFSHARE BEGINS AT PUMC If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend, to death you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before. GriefShare begins February 21 at PUMC to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. GriefShare is a thirteen-week, Christcentered, biblically-based support group experience. A grieving person can join at any time during the thirteen weeks and the group is open to anyone seeking support in their grief. Each session shows a video presentation followed by small group discussion about the video. The video presents experts, ministers and Christian counselors discussing grief and recovery subjects helpful to persons who are grieving. Real people share their stories of what has helped them deal with the pain of losing a family member or friend through death. During the week between meetings, group members complete a Bible study and practical exercises to help them heal from grief. FOOTBALL SUNDAY AT PUMC! Sunday, February 4, is game day across America. Invite a friend to NewDay Praise Worship (8:45 and 10:00 a.m.) to hear from some NFL players about their life with Christ, on and off the field. Tailgate party, with food & games, included! And help make this a ‘souper’ Sunday for some hungry people. Bring canned soup to donate to the local food pantry.
FRANCIS MUSTAPHA VISITS PUMC February 11 Preaching Chapel (11:15 a.m. in the PUMC sanctuary) will feature Francis Mustapha, founder of the Madina Village School in Madina, Sierra Leone, Africa (madinavillageschool.com). Invite a friend to hear about this ministry which PUMC supports.
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES PUMC is seeking a part-time Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM). The ideal candidate will have a visible and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ displayed in his/her leadership of PUMC’s Children’s Ministries. In January PUMC Bible Explorers (Grades PreK, and K-5) began a grand adventure, sailing around the world with new friends Asia, Edgar, Kat, and Caleb of the Deep Blue Crew. Each week in Bible Explorers (Sundays, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at PUMC) students are experiencing a new adventure! Students will learn about God and what it means to be a follower of Jesus through Bible stories and opportunities to serve as disciples in the classroom, the local community, and the world! Kids will explore Guatemala, Kenya, Alaska, and Armenia throughout the year as they dive deep into God’s Word together. Students will discover what it means to be a follower of Jesus in this around-the-world adventure. Parents, please note: Students must be signed-in by an adult on Sunday mornings. Please be with your K-5 student at drop-off (room 107) and pick-up in the south hall. And if your child needs/wants a morning snack, please sign them in at 9:45 a.m. At 10:00 a.m. food is put away and the fun begins! Expectations include giving leadership to the children’s ministries of Plainfield United Methodist C h urch . T h e DCM will work with pastors, s t a f f, and volunteers to develop, articulate, and deploy a Christ-centered philosophy for faith development at PUMC. The DCM will give direction to the Children’s Council; direct process for recruiting, training, and deploying volunteer leaders; and supervise and train child care and nursery volunteers. Candidates must demonstrate spiritual character and maturity, passion for Christ and their ministry, enthusiasm, vision, versatility, effective communication and administration skills and teamwork in the leadership of an established and growing Children’s Ministry. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR AT PUMC For the first time in nearly two decades, PUMC will present a full Broadway musical. As part of the PUMC Concert Series, Jesus Christ Superstar will be performed with singers and full orchestra during worship on Sunday, March 4 in the sanctuary. (Standard worship times: 8:45 and 10:00 a.m.)

With favorite songs like I don’t know how to love him and Jesus Christ Superstar, the in-concert production is sure to inspire as we move into Lent. Be sure to invite others from throughout the community to attend either of the one-hour productions of the timeless musical. If you are interested in joining the production as a member of the chorus, there is still a little time to sign up. Chorus rehearsals begin February 15 and we have room for all voice parts. There is no audition or charge, but contact Director of Music Michael Pettry, mpettry@pumc.org, soon to join the production.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN BIG GAME BAKE SALE The women of PUMC’s Mary Martha Circle, Rachel Circle, and Hope Circle will be having a bake sale on Sunday, February 4. Look for goodies in Clayton Hall and south lobbies. Stock up for your big game parties! Proceeds will be used for local missions.
