Movies have taught us over the years that conquering heroes ride into town on stallions, fly in by private jets, or speed in driving the most expensive, tricked-out sports car imaginable; and, in most cases, a red carpet or welcoming procession is awaiting his or her arrival. We love the spectacle and the thought of a powerful hero arriving just in time to save the day! In fact, when our lives are tough, we fantasize about being rescued and having the world set right by a strong and noble super hero.
The week prior to Jesus' death, as Jesus entered Jerusalem, people cheered for him and waved palm branches in celebration.
