Most journeys we take, we take with a destination in mind.... a warm beach in Florida for spring break; a mountain cabin for summer vacation; the outlet mall for Christmas shopping; the coffee shop to meet a friend. The journey itself is usually secondary to the destination and the event that awaits us there. We tend to plan the journey to make it as short and swift as possible. We are all about getting to where we are going!
As we journey with Jesus to the cross, we find his pace of travel is deliberate and that each encounter holds meaning. As we travel with him we discover what it means to be obedient and humble followers of Jesus. We learn of Jesus' deep humanity and how we can influence others for him. We feast at the table with him and enjoy his friendship, and ultimately, we learn what it is to love. Love gives itself for the benefit of others. Love came in Jesus, that in his sacrifice on the cross, we can have a whole and lasting life. As we walk the final hours...
