WHERE LOVE LEADS
RUTH 1:15-19A REV. ELIZABETH GILBERT Could you have guessed ten years ago what your life would be like today? Even looking back over the last year, would you have thought that you would be living where you are today, doing the things you are doing today, and have the priorities that you have today? Life can be uncertain, and like our GPS apps leading us through construction, we are constantly recalculating. The Old Testament story of Ruth is a story about a family and their lives that take many unexpected twists and turns. They face difficult times, hard decisions, loss, hunger, and financial hardship. They live for a time as aliens in a foreign country and on the margins in their own home town. Throughout though, they discover that the protection and provision of God is present and powerful, leading them always toward God’s plan and purposes. We may not always know where we’re headed, but when God goes before and with us, we always know where we are - safe in God’s loving care.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.” But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem.

Encore Senior Ministries GODSPELL AT CALVARY UMC JULY 22, LEAVE PUMC AT 1 P.M.
A couple of the PUMC Sunday School classes have been studying the parables. Your group may want to join Encore as we go to see Godspell, a musical that addresses a series of parables mostly found in the Gospel of Matthew and is presented by the talented theater group from Brownsburg’s Calvary UMC. The parables are interspersed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ treated briefly near the end of the performance. The message of Godspell is completely timeless. After the show, we will eat dinner together (place to be determined). Sign up in the Main Lobby at the Encore desk on July 8, or 15.

Please stop at the tables to Taleigha Frederick Memorial Service Calendar Legend: A=Worship Annex, learn more and find a place to serve! PUMC’s annual Fish Fry is one of the biggest outreach events of PUMC each year. We welcome thousands of neighbors and friends, serve tons of food (literally – tons!), and the profits all support missions both near and far. Sunday School classes, youth groups, the PUMC Missions Committee, and other groups directly benefit from volunteering for this event. We are proud of the nearly 200 volunteers each year who participate by baking desserts, frying fish, serving in the main line, and so much more. From humble beginnings of welcoming home troops from WWII, this annual event has been embraced by the entire Plainfield area community. Please plan on enjoying the good food and hospitality with us at this year’s fish fry. Jane Iles, First Chair, fishfry@pumc.org Rich Philip, Second Chair Tom Iles, Third Chair
