The “New Rules” For A More Successful Life I’m sure you can agree, it has been quite an interesting few months since the pandemic has begun its race around the globe. With major economic, travel, job and family changes all coming together at once. It’s not the first time there has been disruption, and most likely not the last. When moments like this arrive, I have found it very helpful to step back to remind myself of my base values, fundamentals and habits. Reviewing habits built on my values fundamentals has served me very well in good times and not so good times. I hope it will do the same for you as I believe this time it is more important than ever. This pandemic story seems far from over, however here are a few lessons that I have taken from this journey so far: #1 ACT: PLAN for your future AND Live your life now - who know what may come in the future. Take care of yourself - but don't 'wait' for the right time, or retirement, or whatever other excuse we use to 'wait.’ Get on with that hobby, that accomplishment or friendship you have been hoping to develop “in the future, when life isn’t so busy” (yes we all use that excuse). The future is tomorrow, so best to at least start it, plan it or take a few more steps towards it. You’ll be amazed at where that momentum will take you. #2 FLEX: Do whatever it takes to stay flexible, stretch a lot - more than you expect. I am talking about flexing yourself both physically and mentally. By staying flexible physically life gets better, no matter what your age; 16 to 106. Too many of us sit at a desk all day, then drive in a sitting position, then get home and sit in a chair. You slowly seize up. Exercise is a great start, but ensure it has a strong stretching component to it. Stretching yourself mentally is just as important. Getting ‘stuck in
your ways’ is a terrible habit that only gets worse as you age. With a more flexible mental attitude, you can learn more, see more and grow more – you become much more adaptable to the inevitable changes that are not a part of your plan but are a part of real life. #3 CORE: Have a strong 'core.' This, too, is both physically and mentally. A strong and well exercised physical core of your body will serve you both today and long i nto the long future. (Pilates is great for this). It doesn’t have to be 500 crunches a day, but the value of a strengthened core is immeasurable. Strengthening your mental and emotional core, so you are prepared for times like we are going through right now, is also critical. Living a life based on your core values allows you to reduce stress, reduce the word "Should" in your vocabulary and have a positive impact on others around you (due to your consistency and transparency). The added benefits I receive from doing so is I have more free time and less chaos... feeling much better about life every day. #4 EAT WELL: I don't mean to eat like a rabbit, or follow the latest 'fad diet.' I mean be MINDFUL of what you put into your body. Yes, you love cake (most people do), or you may love high-fructose smoothies, I get it. However, always be aware of what is in them, both good and bad and most importantly what these ingredients do to your body. Make conscious choices that will help you have good fuel, will encourage you to feel nourished (not just FULL). Mindfulness over convenience whenever you can, easy isn’t always the right answer, although sometimes it’s GREAT, isn’t it? Eating well does NOT have to be more expensive (despite what some companies want you to believe) and it doesn’t have to be a whole lot more inconvenient. There is no need to deprive yourself of the enjoyment of
food - just choose knowing what it is Jam” syndrome. (if you email me at you are choosing. thegora@patrika.ca I’ll tell you what that stands for, can’t do it in a ‘family #5 ENGAGEMENT: A mind is a ternewspaper.’) Don’t be one of those rible thing to waste. Exercise it like who need to tell people how imporyour body, develop habits that keep tant you are, it doesn’t look good and it alive, aware, in touch. Stretch it, the more you do it the less important push it, make it do math (especially in you become. It may feel good but if you hate math). Feed it the right at the end of the day If you have to fuel (lots of great reading on that!). tell us you’re important, but it is best Engage it by discovering information to let us come to our own conclusion. or details about a subject you don't know a lot about. This is especially #8 SLEEP: To help fulfill most of powerful if it is a different point of the above 7 Rules, sleep is a cataview than yours (or a subject that lyst. Unfortunately many in North you have never explored). Engaged, America have turned sleep into a aware, in touch – that’s the way to competition (hey, I can get by on 4hrs live life with vitality. Sadly, too many sleep... blah blah blah). Ya, we get it, are looking for ways, habits, chemi- you’re superman/woman. However cals, TV to 'quiet the brain.' There it has been proven scientifically that are better ways to do so especially sleep deficit is one of the pre-cursors in the summer. Of course, it doesn't to high-stress, over-eating and dehave to be deep thinking all the time, bilitating disease. You find a lot of just don't numb it for numbing sake ‘blow-hards’ (see #7 above) are often or because ‘numbing’ has become a of this sleep deficit ilk and add that habit. Dementia is too prevalent in to their persona. “I’ll sleep when I’m today's society - and many who have dead” they often use. That is true, it WISH their brains/mind were able and you will be dead much sooner to be engaged, aware, in touch. than those of us who understand the importance of a quality sleep. Proper #6 LAUGH: Laugh a lot. Laugh sleep is needed for your body and at yourself. Laugh at great comedy, mind to perform, to shed stress, to laugh alone, laugh with friends. Life recover from a day of inundation, to is INCREDIBLY serious so find ways move memories into long-term while in which to relieve that seriousness. I preparing you for the next day. It also believe that laughter is so important helps to build immune systems, to to mental and physical health that reduce anger and reduce impatience. even during the worst of times I beSounds like a pretty good habit. gin each day with a comedy video or podcast and I end most days with the #9 GRATITUDE: Do not dismiss the same. This habit of forcing laughter power of being grateful for what you into a day has saved my mental state have and who you have in your life. many, many times. A shared laugh It may 'seem' to be just another trend, is even more powerful than a laugh however there is science behind this alone, so find ways to brighten others one. Be grateful, say thank you, be days as well. aware of the good not just the bad we are programmed to focus upon. #7 SELF-DELUSION: Don't take One habit I have used for a decade or yourself so darn seriously! Really, we more is to ensure that as I go to sleep get it, you're important.... . We have I make use that 5-minute journal app all come across people in the world I’ve mentioned in earlier columns, who believe their own press, have all it forces me to think of the 3 good the answers and will gladly tell you things I am grateful for. they are amazing, on other days it is tough to come up with three and one not being “well I’m still breathing.” This habit simply helps increase your quality of life and provides perspective and strength to face the next day. If nothing else it makes you feel good and if that is the worst that can happen, where’s the risk in that? You will begin to find that you sleep better and those frown lines begin to disappear from your 'resting face.' #10 BE AWARE: Strange that this even has to be a rule, but we all need a reminder sometimes in this busy world. I call it having situational awareness. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. I don't mean this from just a safety point of view, I mean if from an impact point of view. For instance, if you need to talk on your cell phone, move to an area that your conversation won't bother others... and PLEASE don't use the speaker phone option when standing in a line or sitting in a waiting room. (Brain science has proven that the basic reason we're so irritated when we overhear a conversation when
Ç
we don’t want to is because the conversation hijacks our cognitive functions—it's a distraction that we can't do anything about and we can't get away from. Our brain is working hard to ignore, but is wired to be brought in. AND we really don't care about “that guy who cut you off on the way to the mall.” These are just a few thoughts, observations and rules I have generated to help make my life better. They are serving me well and I hope that the thought process sparks ideas, habits and thought process for you as well.

Is a pandemic the right time to start your own business? (NC) We’re all re-evaluating what work will look like in a post-pandemic world. Some major companies are eliminating office spaces and embracing working from home permanently, while savvy entrepreneurs are seeing opportunities for innovation and exciting new business ideas.
COVID-19 UPDATE koivz-19 leI socidaF
While COVID-19 may be disrupting your current job, the new normal may also provide you with the push you need to reflect on your career goals. For example, now’s the perfect time to think about what you really want from your job, such as the flexibility to work from home during hours that work for you and the ability to be your own boss. In fact, this type of independent work will be a major trend this year, as 45 per cent of Canada’s labour force will be generating self-employment income in 2020. Millennials are key drivers of this shift, as almost nine in 10 prefer to work when and where
they choose, as opposed to a corporate 9-5 job. One way to test out your entrepreneurial acumen before diving headfirst into a business venture is becoming a direct selling consultant. Direct selling can provide you with the opportunity to gain business management abilities, build your confidence and hone your entrepreneurial skills. For those hoping to start their own business, it can provide a great training ground, where you can build the skills to become your best boss.

Province reduces annual licence fee for taxi industry
T
axi and limousine operators will pay less to keep their vehicles on the road as part of the Province’s ongoing work to support the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’ve heard from operators and drivers about the impact of COVID-19 on British Columbians who make their living in the taxi industry,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Lowering the annual licence fee is just one of the ways our government can step in and help this industry as we continue to reopen and recover together.” On June 22, 2020, the annual licence renewal fee was reduced for commercial operators who hold a Passenger Directed Vehicle Authorization, which includes taxi and limousine operators. In the past, these licensees paid an annual fee of $100 per vehicle with no overall fee cap. It has been reduced to $50 per vehicle with a licence fee cap of $5,000.

“Throughout the pandemic, operators and drivers in the taxi and limo industry have worked hard to protect passengers, with new measures focused on hygiene to prevent transmission,” Trevena said. “This work has been so important in maintaining what has been designated an essential service.” In addition to these measures, over the past two years government has worked to support fairness for drivers through a package of initiatives including:

s parents return to work, the Province is making affordable, quality child care more accessible for families in Abbotsford by investing in 48 new licensed spaces, scheduled to open in July 2020. “As we gradually move towards our ‘new normal’ under COVID-19, it’s vital that we continue our work through Childcare BC to give families across B.C. access to quality, affordable and inclusive child care,” said Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care. “These new spaces at Little Leaders will help to boost the local economy and get parents back to work, while at the same time, giving kids the opportunity to try new activities, experience new cultures and develop the skills they need to succeed.” The Childcare BC New Spaces Fund is supporting the creation of 24 infant/ toddler spaces, and 24 spaces for children aged three to five years, at the Little Leaders Childcare Centre. “As the demand for child care increases, it is a child care provider’s responsibility to provide the service, but without financial support, it becomes a costly and unattainable venture,” said Suki Gill, director, Little Leaders Childcare Centre. “Applying for the New Spaces grant was the only way to move forward with this new centre, and these funds have allowed for the renovation of a commercial space that will provide child care for local families right up to kindergarten.” Located on the corner of McCallum and King Road and adjacent to the freeway, this facility will work with local organizations to provide inclusive care for children with extra support needs. It offers an enriching play-based program that follows the early learning framework. Activities will include child-directed learning at
learning centres, circle time, art, yoga and large movement, music, weekly baking opportunities and a soccer program in the summer. The covered outdoor play space allows for the extension of indoor activities in all weather conditions. Bilingual staff help to ensure that the needs of all communities are met and families are supported in their search for high-quality care. These new spaces in Abbotsford are part of the fastest creation of child care spaces in B.C.’s history. An additional 4,100 spaces, funded through the 2017 Budget Update and the Early Learning and Child Care agreement with the Government of Canada, brings the total to more than 17,000 new licensed spaces since July 2017. Since launching in February 2018, the Childcare BC plan has helped parents save almost $500 million through the Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB) and Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI). Over 69,500 children have been approved for ACCB benefit plans since the start of the program. Currently, over 61,000 licensed child care spaces are approved to receive CCFRI funding. Investing in child care and early childhood education is a shared priority between government and the BC Green Party caucus, and is part of the Confidence and Supply Agreement. PAGE 15

Connecting Abbotsford Families: Mountain Neighbours After living and working in Hungary, Czech Republic, and Southern California (their home state), Dana and her husband Rick Franklin finally decided to call British Columbia home after falling in love with the pristine rainforest and the abundant wildlife here. Their work in Abbotsford with Arrow Leadership, a non-profit leadership development organization also fuels their desire to live here. Dana and Rick were high school sweethearts, both completed their undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dana then went on to earn a graduate diploma in spiritual formation from Biola University, while Rick earned two master’s degrees there followed by a PhD from Regent University.

Ross Siemens, sponsor and whose family was also featured, introduced Dana Franklin and Dave Sidhu (General Manager, The Patrika Media) with the idea for a possible collaboration to bring Abbotsford together. Dana and Dave were both excited. Dave, because unifying the Punjabi and English speakers in Abbotsford is the heartbeat of The Patrika, Dr. Andy Sidhu’s original vision of Bridging Communities. Dana, because bringing people together is her motivation.
Dana and Rick’s youngest, their daughter Alysse, is beginning her third year at the University of British Columbia in September where she is studying psychology and is volunteering at a farm on Keats Island this summer at Barnabas Family Camp.
“Personally, I enjoy connecting people. In my role, I bring neighbours together as well as give our wonderful, local business sponsors influence with them. The relationships in the neighbourhood and with the businesses are growing as a result.”
A primary reason for them moving around from country to country was a result of their work with a non-profit organization. They shifted frequently, in fact each of their four children were born in four different hospitals, in two different countries! Dana and Rick are thankful to have moved to BC and have three of their children close by, especially as they journey through these unprecedented times amidst COVID-19. The couple’s oldest son, Christopher, daughter-in-love Deanna and four-year-old Waylon the Wonderful live and work in southern California near Dana’s extended family in Orange County. Their second child, their daughter Rebecca and son-in-love Stuart live in New Westminster. Rebecca is a teacher in Langley, and Stu is a computer software engineer in Vancouver.

Having to wait is something you cannot do much about right now. Attempting to make decisions in any situation that has a lot of uncertainties attached is not wise. Promises from somebody else to make commitments or take on certain responsibilities may not happen. Contemplate what you have the ability to establish
You could be disappointed with a friend or somebody within a group of people you are dealing with. Some sort of limitation or restrictions with finances could be linked in with this. At the same time though you have the opportunity to gain a clearer picture on the true situation and whether it fits with your own priorities.

Anything you want recognition or appreciation for may prove difficult to gain. It may make you realise that a lot more can be expected of you than you are willing to give. The reason for this can be that you feel someone else will benefit more than you. This would be a good time to dissolve any outdated obligations you have.
Don’t discount any suspicions you might have on the direction a matter could take in the future. You might get all sorts of assurances that you find difficult to be comfortable about. The main thing is to keep your mind focussed on your own position or situation so that you are ready for any changes you might need to make.
Exactly what somebody else is expecting could be difficult to ascertain. They may be giving the impression of willingness to be adaptable when this is what they want from you. If you wonder about whether they know what they want – they do. You should not openly express your ideas. There will be much to consider to August.
Somebody else can be rather forceful in a subtle way. You need to be alert to not giving them more authority than you feel comfortable about. If you have authority, be sure you maintain it. Stay focussed on your priorities. These might need to go through some change later but to avoid regrets, now is not the time for alterations.
If you haven’t been paying enough attention to your health and general well being you could now feel the consequences of this, mainly with lowered energy levels. This could also apply to details you have not been keeping on top of with any matter. For proper progress in the future you need to apply yourself to July.
You will be more inclined towards taking it easy than pushing yourself too hard. Someone else could have other ideas but it may not hurt you to take a momentary break from things, especially if you are not sure whether matters are heading in a direction that you could be happy about in the long term. There is no rush.

You may wonder whether something is as secure as you thought when it comes to situations that have been put in place involving others. Most important is that you do not take any chances when it comes to your finances, which could include any advice that is given. You need to focus on whatever gives you underlying security.
Any attempt to gain clarity on details as to whether something should be finished or let go of can seem conflicting. You need to be sure that information you are accessing is reliable. Somebody who is completely removed from the matter could provide much to think about in that they may be able to give you alternative ideas.
There could be a sense of disappointment because of not having, at your disposal, the resources you would like to enjoy certain things in life. This can be more about letting go of something pleasurable, for the moment at least. You might realise that you could benefit from giving greater consideration to changes with daily routines.
Clear awareness of the action you would need to take to put in motion something you would like to accomplish is likely to have options you had not previously considered. Getting the foundation in place is likely to unsettle priorities that have been important for quite some time. Take your time contemplating your happiness.

Earlier he donated 5,000 ‘Eid kits’ through his initiative Being Haangryy. The kits, distributed via a food truck, included milk,
ghee, vermicelli and dry fruits. The Being Haangryy food truck was designed for Salman Khan’s upcoming film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. However, the actor and his production house decided to utilise the truck to feed the poor amid the pandemic.Salman also sent food supplies to the villages near his Panvel farmhouse. On the creative front, Salman has been quite busy. Back in April, he released the song “Pyaar Karona”. He then released another track in collaboration with Jacqueline Fernandez, titled “Tere Bina”.
