Emergency support for vulnerable people during COVID-19 continues

T

he Province is extending the provincial temporary crisis supplement for people on income or disability assistance and low-income seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. “As BC’s Restart Plan is creating signs of hope, low- or no-income people are still disproportionately affected by this pandemic,” said Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. For those who are not receiving federal benefits like the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, the Province’s temporary COVID-19 Crisis Supplement that has been provided since April will be extended for an additional four months.

Fraser Health expanding access to COVID-19 assessment and testing

n response to increased demand for COVID-19 assessment and testing across our region, Fraser Health has expanded access to these services, and is planning further enhancements over the coming days and weeks to help ensure people experiencing COVID-19 symptoms can quickly receive a COVID-19 assessment and test if they need one.

“The strength of British Columbia’s COVID-19 response has been our ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing needs as the pandemic continues in our province,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. “By extending hours of service and adding new locations, we are helping ensure that assessment and testing is broadly available to people experiencing symptoms, when they need it.” “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have ensured assessment and testing is available to every person in our region who needs it. We closely monitor volumes and are responding to what we are seeing across our region,” said Dr. Victoria Lee, Fraser Health president and CEO. “To respond to an increased demand for testing, we are expanding services where they are needed to support people with quick access to assessment and testing, and ensure we are minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission in our communities.”

The Enhanced Care coverage bill, expected to receive royal assent on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, will save British Columbians on average 20% or about $400 on their auto insurance. It will also provide increased care and recovery benefits for people. It will increase from the current limit of $300,000 to a maximum of at least $7.5 million, providing the care people need for as long as they need it, should they be injured in a crash. This is what experts from the medical, brain injury, spinal cord injury, physiotherapy, mental health, occupational therapy and insurance industries are saying about Enhanced Care coverage, which starts in May 2021: Dr. Kathleen Ross, president, Doctors of B.C. – “We look forward to working with our patients under these changes, which are designed to provide a streamlined process, allowing patients easier access to expanded benefits and care, and helping them to recuperate faster after a motor vehicle crash. These changes make it so doctors can focus on their patient’s care and recovery, rather than on more administrative work.” Justina Loh, executive director, Disability Alliance B.C. –

see with Enhanced Care coverage, a much-needed reduction in autoinsurance premiums in the province. Those savings, coupled with the increased care benefits that people will receive, make Enhanced Care coverage a tremendous upgrade to auto insurance in B.C.” Jane Dyson, chair, Injury Recovery Design Panel (for Enhanced Care coverage) – “With significantly increased benefits and supports, Enhanced Care coverage means people who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents won’t have to worry that they’ll exhaust their benefits, as they do under the current system. It will also help ensure that the focus is on the needs of injured people. The panel I am leading is comprised of advocacy group leaders and a range of health care professionals. Together, we are advising ICBC on how best to ensure that Enhanced Care is accessible for people who have been catastrophically injured and their support networks, so they get all the coverage to which they are entitled.” Christine Bradstock, CEO of the Physiotherapy Association of B.C. – “Injuries sustained in a motor-vehicle crash can take time to work through – for some, a lifetime. To have Enhanced Care coverage, which provides physiotherapy for injured people, is good news for those who are injured, as their care will be available for as long as they need, helping them live their best quality of life possible.”

bbotsford-based homebuilder Diane Delves was featured on Business in Vancouver’s list of “Biggest B.C. businesses owned by women”. Delves founded Quantum Properties and has built numerous commercial and multi-family residential properties in Abbotsford and the Lower Mainland. Her landmark building, the 26-storey tower Mahogany at Mill Lake, is the tallest building in Abbotsford and the first high rise built here this century.

the most recent data from Statistics Canada, women make up 12.4% of the construction workforce, up from 10.8% in 2000.

“It’s a pretty tough job. You’ve got to be extremely dedicated”, she said of her success in the male dominated field. “Being an entrepreneur, I’ve always believed that hardwork and dedication breeds success. But I wouldn’t have made it this far without the strong support of my mentors and staff. I am incredibly appreciative of all the Although the participation rate of people who have believed in me along women in many employment fields the way.” has increased substantially over the years, the rate remains stubbornly Delves has always had a love for real low in some industries. According to estate. After working as a realtor in the 80s, she found her opportunity to pivot to real estate appraisal. It was through her work as an appraiser that she learned to have a keen eye for spotting potential development sites. Launching Quantum Properties in 2000, she quickly learned the business of development, from construction to sales, and the company has continued to grow, in both employees and project size, year after year.

Through her years in business, Delves has continued to give back to the community in both time and donations. She is on the board of directors at the Urban Development Institute and chaired the Fraser Valley committee for 5 years. She served as Vice Chair of the Abbotsford Airport Authority for 10 years. ing the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, Professional Appraiser designations (AACI, P. App) and has devoted significant time as a volunteer within the organization serving on several committees including chairing the Fraser Valley Chapter. Shraddha Kapoor in south remake of Aadai?

If the industry grapevine is to be believed, Shraddha Kapoor has been approached for the remake of the Tamil film Aadai (2019). It is learnt that the rights of the Amala Paulstarrer have been sold to a Bollywood producer. The criticallyacclaimed film is about a gutsy news anchor. Rathna Kumar, who helmed the original, is likely to direct the Hindi version as well. This is not the first time Shraddha will be seen in a remake. The actress was also a part of Ok Jaanu, opposite Aditya Roy Kapur, her Aashiqui 2 co-star. After the lockdown was lifted, Shakti Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor's father had shown concern over the actress' health. He said in an interview, "I will not go out and work for now, nor will I allow my daughter Shraddha to resume work. I don't think the threat is gone. I feel the worst is yet to come. I won't let my children out for now." Shakti Kapoor added, "I know work is important but not at the cost of one's life. It will be very chaotic if people start shooting now. I tell industry people in our group that it is better to wait than pay hospital bills. It is still a very bad state of affairs outside." On the work front, Shraddha Kapoor will be next seen in Malang 2, a Mohit Suri film. On the other hand, she also has a film with Ranbir Kapoor coming up that has been directed by Luv Ranjan.

Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal back film on rural economic revolution Actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal have lent their support to a short film, Transform India, which focuses on rural economic revolution. The real-life lovers joined hands to support social activist Mayank Gandhi's short film."I am happy to present this short informative video because it is so promising. It is about how one man who decided to prove that even a single person can make a huge difference, make money and save the environment. It could help tide over this economy and better the environment," Richa said.Ali added: "The movement aims to address some major problems of farmers like rural distress, poverty, suicides, and deprivation. Their prototype work in drought-hit and suicideprone regions of Marathwada in Maharashtra, started in 2016, has been impressive." Talking about reaching out to Richa and Ali, Gandhi said: "We have seen that Richa and Ali have a credible thought process about social issues, and express a constructive solution for the same. Their genuine concern for the environment, rural economy, and the prosperity of our farmers is commendable."

Was sceptical to shoot amid pandemic : Karan Wahi Actor Karan Wahi, who is currently busy shooting for Khatron Ke Khiladi Made In India, was initially sceptical to go outdoors and resume work, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. "I was sceptical. I mean it was not easy stepping out knowing that your health is at risk. I signed my contract just one day before the shoot. I first made sure that proper safety precautions are being followed on the sets. Personally, I was very scared. So, I had a detailed discussion with the team," Karan

said. "The production team was very cooperative, and I do trust the channel. So, I said yes and eventually I have to work. I haven't been doing anything for so many months, so I feel it's okay to shoot for the show to make me mentally, emotionally and physically sane," he said. "Khatron Ke Khiladi: Made In India" also features Harsh Limbachiyaa, Nia Sharma, Jasmine Bhasin , Aly Goni and Jay Bhanushali.

I find it easier to follow my heart : Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan does not like to follow norms. She finds it easier to follow her heart. The actress says doing something that is not natural to you can be a painful process, which she realised a few years ago."I find it easier to follow my heart because I've tried in the past to follow the norm," Vidya said. "I think when you do something that's not natural to you, or that's not authentic for you, that process is very painful. I realised that a few years ago, I think almost 10 years ago, and started to read my inner voice and follow that. I found that to be easier. When I think, 'ohh this is the right thing to do', it never works for me," she added.Ask her if she is a rebel, Vidya said: "I don't see myself as a rebel. I think when people choose to do what they want as opposed to what is expected of

them, they are often labelled as rebels. There's no intention to be a rebel or anything of that sort. I did what I wanted to do, but I know why someone would see me as a rebel."After a stint on the small screen with "Hum Paanch", Vidya entered Bollywood with "Parineeta" in 2005. Since then, Vidya has been defying stereotypes -- be it while essaying mother to Amitabh Bachchan in "Paa" or the sultry siren in "The Dirty Picture" or her role of a full-of-life housewife in "Tumhari Sulu" or the flawless mathematician with flaws as a human being in "Shakuntala Devi".

I believe in repeating clothes : Bhumi Pednekar

Actress Bhumi Pednekar believes in repeating her clothes. She adds that she also believes in sharing her wardrobe with her sister."I believe in repeating clothes. I repeat clothes all the time. I don't think that people might see me wearing the same clothes because as an actress you are told to wear different and new outfits, but honestly I don't care," said Bhumi, who is also an environment activist. "There are so many business I have come across where people are renting clothes! I love the idea! It's genius!" she added.Bhumi also shares clothes with her sister Samiksha Pednekar. "Between me and my

sister, our wardrobe is pretty much one. We share clothes. We keep repeating clothes and we have no problem with that. In the last two years, I have consciously started seeing how climate-conscious the brand is before I wear it," she said. She feels the world is shifting towards sustainability. "There is large shift in the way brands are now dealing with sustainability. All your high fashion brands and luxury brands are slowly turning towards sustainability," she noted. With recycled fashion, the price difference is a lot, too. "I really hope that the process happens a lot faster because as a consumer you will consume what is given to you. Unfortunately, with recycled and upcycled fashion, the price difference is a lot and it's not affordable to everybody," she said.

Any secrets that might be unearthed would not be such a bad thing. It can allow you to enjoy life more. The same could be said of any situation you feel you have been controlled by – get rid of it. The cycle that could have had you continuously comparing one thing to another since April is over. You can now settle down.

Something could begin to turn around for the better. There could be greater promise in the future than you had initially anticipated as long ago as 2 years. You still need to keep working behind the scenes in some way but should not lose sight of whatever it is you want to put in place. Finances will be less up and down now.

Venus has moved out of your sign after having been there for an especially long time since early April. Life may seem rather dull in comparison but it is time for you to take a considered approach to finances to early September. All sorts of opinions can come your way but you need to look into information that suits your priorities.

Venus, the planet of balance and harmony has moved into your sign where it will remain until 6th September, generating more settled feelings, even relationships. There has been too much going on behind the scenes since early April creating situations that were not clear. Pursue others if you need them to produce results.

Anything that needs to be streamlined or cleaned up in some way cannot be left any longer or it will interfere with daily needs and anything you want to get on with. Any distractions since April can calm down now, giving you more time for consideration. The future won’t be the same and you need to get prepared.

You should take time up to early September to calmly consider your options when it comes to priorities in life. There will be those who support and encourage you and yet others who can put all sorts of pressures upon you. Don’t feel compelled to rush anything – the more time you take for gathering details the happier you will be.

Any situation that has been going on since early April of not knowing exactly the direction the future will take has now ceased. It will be more a matter of weighing up obligations you are willing to accept to early September. This may not suit the expectations of somebody else but you need to stand firm with your priorities.

A challenging situation can arise because somebody else is inflexible when it comes to a commitment. The problem could be that they are expecting you to deal with the details or become enslaved to the work involved. You need to work out whether this is a position you want to accept. It will be up to you to generate a discussion.

Feverish activity involving others that could have been the case since early April, will now calm down. This could give you a greater sense of peace even though they may become secretive. You have plenty to focus on when it comes to future directions you want to pursue. This can include being determined to cut back on spending.

Greater social interaction can begin to take place from now to early September. Relationships have the opportunity to be most pleasant. Focus on what you need or want to put in place, which can include getting rid of things that are no longer necessary. Someone might have to accept there a certain things you won’t change.

Someone who expects things to be done their way might be surprised with your lack of agreement if this will interfere with what you are comfortable with or what you want to put in place. You might even surprise yourself with your determination. It would be premature to attempt to establish new directions before next year.

Many pleasant days with greater enjoyment can be the case until early September. This will be a welcome change to the changeability that has been at the basis of your life since early April. You could see a way of creating greater efficiency with your spending. There is probably something that has served its purpose. Let it go.
