THE PAIN OF INDIAN FARMERS HASN’T JUST CROSSED BORDERS, IT HAS CROSSED SEAS.

As most first-generation Canadians that identify as South-Asian are only one generation removed from a life of farming, news of these bills is hitting the community hard. It doesn’t help that the protestors, elder individuals at large, are being subjected to violence at the hands of Delhi Police. Where the community that is settled in countries outside of India can’t actively participate in the protests, they hope to raise awareness and draw attention to them. India has a longstanding history of enacting violence against peaceful protestors

Note that we live in a world where attention is currency, and every little bit counts. The rallies being held across the globe in support of Indian Farmers are not ill-founded. SouthAsian youth has made numerous attempts to capture the attention of global news channels and has had little to no success. These rallies are a last-ditch effort to help their friends and families back home. Picture Credits: Harjas Kaur (Abbotsford Protest) Akshay Kapoor (Delhi Protest)

What are Disbursements? Abby Pang Lawyer Simpson, Thomas & Associates

If you have been injured in a car accident caused by someone else, you are entitled to bring a claim for personal injury compensation. Successful personal injury claimants are also entitled to recover legal fees and disbursements incurred to advance their claim. Our ICBC car accident lawyers recently discussed the average legal fees for an ICBC claim. Today we will discuss disbursements— that is, the out-of-pocket expenses associated with pursuing an ICBC claim.

Fraser Health enhances assessment and notification process for COVID-19 school exposures

n response to feedback we have received from schools and parents in our communities, Fraser Health has enhanced the way we notify staff and parents when a COVID-19 exposure occurs at a school. With the support of school districts and schools, we have streamlined our assessment and notification process to help reduce anxiety for the school community, and provide timely and clear actions to impacted individuals. Until now, staff and parents at a school with a COVID-19 exposure received a general early notification letter asking them to monitor for symptoms. Fraser Health Public Health would then follow up to provide impacted cohorts and individuals with further instruction as needed. Moving forward, Fraser Health is improving the way we work with each school district and schools to more quickly determine who may have been exposed. Based on this information, school administrators

will now distribute three types of letters to their school community that include a preliminary assessment of the individual’s exposure based on administrative and cohort (class) schedules. These letters provide targeted information to recipients on what actions they should follow.

Early notification letter – general: This letter will be shared with individuals who are not part of a specific class or cohort, such as a school counsellor, who may or may not have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 and provide them with instructions.

While it does take time for a person to develop symptoms, realize they are sick, get tested, receive their results and then for assessment and notification of a school exposure to take place, this change will allow us to provide tailored notifications more quickly to impacted individuals. We ask all symptomatic staff and students to get tested as early as possible, even with mild symptoms, so that we have the results as soon as possible and can take action. People living in the Fraser Health region can find information about test collection centres by visiting Fraser Health’s website. To book a COVID-19 testing appointment, complete a COVID-19 test booking form. For more information about COVID-19, please visit fraserhealth.ca/ covid19. PAGE 15

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother, Prith Paul Singh Dhillon, lovingly known as “Kuku” on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020. Prith was born in Pind Dhilwan, Punjab, India on March 30th, 1964 and passed peacefully in his sleep, at age 56 years, in Vancouver, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Ajit Singh Dhillon and Harsimran Kaur Dhillon, of Abbotsford, B.C. Prith will forever be remembered by his son, Dustin Reimer, brother Avin Dhillon, sister Sukhi (Gurmeet) Reehal, nephews Justin, Kory (Deepi), Dylan and his extended family near and far. Prith and his family arrived in Canada in 1974. In the early days, he lived in North Bend, B.C. then relocated to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1976, where he attended Bakerview Elementary, Abbostford Junior, and Abbotsford Senior Schools. Since 2005, Prith was residing in Vancouver, B.C. until his passing. Professionally, Prith will be remembered for his strong work ethic and skillset. In his personal life, a gentle and loving soul lay beneath his hard exterior. He had a carefree spirit and outlook on life, bringing laughter to those around him and never taking life too seriously. Selfless to a fault, Prith never hesitated to help those in need. He was passionate about music and bhangra, which followed him through every pathway. Prith lived life on his own terms and danced to the beat of his own drum. The family takes solace in knowing Prith fulfilled his dream of revisiting his birthplace, after 45 years in 2019. The memories will live on forever. "Enjoy life today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow is never promised."

As a teenager, I lacked self confidence : Kirti Kulhari

Actress Kirti Kulhari says she struggled with self-confidence and self-esteem issues as a teenager and discovered internal strength growing up."Making the first move in life might seem like climbing a mountain, especially when we're younger and you're getting to know yourself and the world," Kirti said.Looking back, the actress shared: "I know the thought of being the first one to express yourself can be daunting. As a teenager, I lacked selfconfidence and selfesteem, and always wondered if I could make the first move.""As I grew up and found who I am internal, I realized it's actually empowering to be the first

mover. It takes a lot of courage, but being the first person to ask someone out, or even to actually propose to someone is incredibly empowering -- I actually asked my husband Saahil Sehgal to marry me! Once you've done it, like everything else in life, you laugh at yourself and go -- that was super easy," she added.Kirti will be seen in the Hindi remake of "The Girl On The Train", a project tentatively titled "Shaadistan", the third season of "Four More Shots Please", and the short film "Charu". She will also be seen opening up about the pressures of making the first move in a relationship in the series "Dating These Days". The show will go live on Bumble's YouTube channel on December

Do you know what Shraddha Kapoor's most prized possessions are? Shraddha Kapoor is that sweet face of Bollywood that draws a smile on everyone's face with her grace, charm and grounded personality. Being the bollywood actress, she has access to a lavish lifestyle but our lovely Shraddha Kapoor has always opted for the simpler life.Speaking of her most prized possessions, unlike any other diva would say, for her it is her mom and masi's (aunt's) sarees. A source close to the actress shared, "Whenever she gets a chance, she goes through sarees of her mum and masi, and tries draping it around her. She's extremely close to both of them and the sentimental value these sarees hold are way more important than fashion choices for her and her heirloom will be these sarees."No branded handbags, shoes, clothes but an elaborate collection of sarees owned by her mother and aunt. Shraddha can have the most amazing sarees available for her with a whole host of stylists around her, but she chooses sarees that have a sense of belonging. Recently on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, the actress was seen flaunting her mother's saree which was as gorgeous as the actress, and that's what strikes a chord in her fan's hearts. The actress chooses to doll up in their sarees for any important occasion and festival. With much simplicity and elegance, Shraddha being the Bollywood actress also becomes the most grounded celebrity of B-town. The actress had a hectic 2019 with releases back to back and a bumper start in 2020 with announcements one after the other. Apart from her recently announced Nagin trilogy, the actress will also be seen in Luv Ranjan's directorial alongside Ranbir Kapoor.

This has been a special year : Nawazuddin Siddiqui Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has had a good year. Despite lockdown, he stood out with roles in the burgeoning OTT space. In 2020, the phenomenal actor has impressed as always with roles in the digitally-released films "Raat Akeli Hai" and "Serious Men". Inspector Jatil Yadav in "Raat Akeli Hai" and Ayyan Mani in "Serious Men" have been two of the most memorable characters in the Indian OTT space, in a year when visual entertainment has been defined by digital content. The actor agrees this has been a special year."This has been a special year owing to two completely contrasting characters that I portrayed -- of Jatil Tadav and Ayyan Mani. They represented distinct ideologies and mannerisms, which make them stand apart. I am thankful for all the love and appreciation from our audiences," he said."For an artist, it's a never-ending journey to better himself in his craft. It is my good fortune to have secured multiple opportunities of working with inspiring people from the industry," the actor added

Diana Penty is sure of what she won't wear at her wedding Actress Diana Penty is pretty sure about what she will not wear on her wedding day. She also gave a hint of where she would like her destination wedding to be held. "Wedding outfits are absolutely stunning and gorgeous, but they are also so heavy. I have made a mental note to never wear something too heavy. It is definitely going to be something light, easy and comfortable. Comfort for me is everything because only then can I have a good time. I don't want to be tugging at my outfit and, by the end of it, feel my body hurt because of how heavy it is! I really

don't want to be in that position!" Diana said. She also expressed her desire to be surrounded by the mountains for her destination wedding, because her big day has to be held in a place filled with tranquillity."I haven't really thought about it, but I generally love the mountains. They are beautiful, calm and therapeutic. It gives me a sense of peace. So, if I could just be surrounded by mountains with just a little nip in the air, I'd be happy," said the actress. Diana will next be seen in the upcoming film Shiddat, which also features Mohit Raina, Radhika Madan and Sunny Kaushal.

Actors have privileges as well as pressure : Tisca Chopra

After Tisca Chopra wrote and produced Chutney, she had a nagging feeling that she needed to stretch herself. That's where Rubaru, her directorial debut, emerged from. Initially conceptualised as a full-length feature film, the Arjun Mathur and Chopra-starrer eventually became a short film. "As actors, we are always servicing the vision of the director and writer. But it's not our story. With Rubaru, I wanted to explore if I had it in me to direct. This was a natural progression after having worked with wonderful filmmakers and learnt a great deal," begins the first-time director. Always inclined towards writing, Chopra teamed up with husband Sanjay, and Namrata Shenoy to develop Rubaru, which draws from her personal experiences. The short film explores the fragilities of stardom, complete with its highs and lows. "We've all seen how magazines and aam junta talk about actors. Artistes constantly have a mask on, with manicured nails, lashes and mascara on point. But when the garb comes off, what does it feel like? At their most vulnerable, they are regular people. Actors have privileges as well as pressure. Here, we've shown how our lives could be crumbling, but the show must go on. I hope it evokes empathy for the performer."

An opinion expressed or a demand that might have been made in early October but went nowhere could suddenly re-emerge and be finalised. There can be all sorts of challenges or expectations coming from others. They could simply be pushing you to find out where you stand and what you are prepared to make a commitment to.

An interesting conversation can arise with someone else. They could bring up a subject you thought you had dodged or escaped from. The difference now is that they will be looking for something to take a new direction. This could leave you in a situation of having to carefully analyse all the avenues you can take in the future.

Something you needed to pay attention to and perhaps unexpectedly in early October can now arise again, perhaps unexpectedly. This could be associated with health, general well being or daily routines. The opinion of other people could be involved and that is likely to be in a good way, providing a path to new beginnings.

A situation you have been working at putting into place to create greater underlying peace or security can move ahead at a very steady pace from one thing to another. It could be that you will finally get an agreement you have been looking for. This could be combined with you taking a bit of a risk with something new to you.

You should carefully weigh up the amount of work involved when it comes to making a decision to change the way something has been structured for a long time. Freeing yourself up to some degree is a much better choice than suddenly taking on a situation that is out of the ordinary but seems to provide a new start.

A decision you needed to make unexpectedly in early October could now present itself again. Other facts may have emerged in between time that will now enable you to see a new way of finalising things. You should not take any risks when it comes to financial commitments. There is more than one way to work around this.

You are in an excellent position to weigh up the best way to put a good foundation in place that will enable you to move into enjoying life a bit more from next year after having this underlying seriousness for the last 3 years. It would not be wise though to be convinced to make snap decisions when it comes to finances though.

The New Moon will be in your sign, very likely giving you the sense that something needs to change and that new directions need to be taken. This can be a 2 to 3 year process. Don’t be distracted by any unpredictable behaviour of somebody else or them rebelling. Your focus needs to be intently applied to your own situation.

New opportunities can be developing behind the scenes. If there is something you thought about finishing in early October but nothing came of it, you could either get a second chance or completely different ideas can suddenly emerge. Most important is to not lose sight of your wishes and what you can really afford to do.

New things that you didn’t expect could start to become important, especially if it means you can enjoy yourself more. This will probably mean you will need to free some time up for yourself when it comes to what has normally required your attention. This could prove to be quite a balancing act but one you can deal with.

Don’t take on any new responsibilities on impulse. There is a strong underlying desire for life to change and you could have a sudden insight on what is possible but burdening yourself is not the way you should go. You could sense the long- term future holds promise of greater peace or security. It does. Patience is required.

Future plans that you either first conceived in early October or attempted to put in place without complete success can now suddenly present as a real possibility. Coupled with this is something new which could have a lot to do with feeling more rock solid about what your priorities are and putting in whatever effort is necessary.
