We reflect on the injustices they have faced and continue to face today. We remember the young and innocent lives lost at the residential schools, and we stand by our Indigenous brothers and sisters, their grief, and the loss of their loved ones. We recognize the contributions that the Aboriginal People have made and continue to make, and as we move forward on the path of reconciliation, we acknowledge that the pain of the past still lives today. pihlI julfeI nUM 'kYnyzf zya' 'qy ies vfr jÈn mnfAux dI QF, mUlvfsI BfeIcfry dy bwicaF dI nslkuÈI df drd vMzfAux dI loV hY. drasl ieMzIjInIas BfeIcfry hI kYnyzf dI DrqI dy asl vfrs hn, ijnHF bwicaF dy srIrk aMg imlx kfrn kYnyzf Br ivc AudfsI df aflm hY.mUlvfsI lokF dy bwicaF dI nslkuÈI sfhvyN kYnyzf zya dy jÈn by mfany hn; "Drq knyzf df pVHo, duKdfeI ieiqhfs. hmlfvr mflk bxy, mflk bx gey dfs." EUGENE REIMER MIDDLE SCHOOL'S GRADE 6 CLASS PARTICIPATES IN EQUITY BACKPACK PROJECT Our Grade 6 class's goal for the Equity Backpack Project has been to expand across British Columbia and to other provinces. What a journey it's been, for our 11-year-old students from a school in Abbotsford, BC to reach out across our province and beyond. At the heart of the backpack is the goal of honoring each person's lived experiences. Our class is excited to share that over so many schools and endless community members (Abbotsford Mayor, UBC students, SFU Students, Police Chief, Police officers and Professors, Parents, three superintendents, and more...) participated in our project. Attached are photographs of some of the students and special guests sharing their stories. These videos were not possible without the support of community members, families, and educators. Schools include Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School, Mt. Lehman Elementary, Harry Sayers Elementary, William Fraser Middle School, Abbotsford Traditional Middle School, Rick Hansen Secondary School, Jackson Elementary, Blue Jay Elementary, Auguston Elementary, James Thomson, Langley Fundamental, Mount Pleasant, Seymour Elementary, Powell River, Sir William Osler Elementary and many more. In order to capture the voices of participants across BC and Alberta, our class created an Equity Backpack Video Series. Our 60 grade 6 students and Eugene Riemer team of principal Ian Levings, Jaxon Orth, Shelly Sangha, Heidi Buhler, Sukh Bains, and Deirdre Degagne spent all of May and April creating this video series to inspire others. We hope that these videos capture our student's, community members' voices in an authentic way which leads to building bridges between cultures.

It was so incredible to have teachers participate including Mrs.Jurcic, Mrs. McPhee, Mr. Cooper Burnaby teacher, Mrs. Buhler, Sydney Ned, Mrs. Tusi, Mrs. Koop, Mr. Parsons, Mrs. Wilms, and principals Ian Levings, Ryan Colbert, Dexter Horton, Abby Chan, Kam Sidhu, Mrs. Wallace, Reg Gabriel, Mrs. Bennato, trustee Stan Petersen, and superintendents Dr. Godden, Mr. Moorthy, and Mr. Wilson. Parents such as Mr. Gulati, Mr. Dinh and more participated in the video series alongside their children on the Equity Backpack journey to heal, honour stories and make the world an even better place. The Equity Backpack Video series consists of the following 4 short videos. The videos reflect the themes found in the backpack. What is equity without a promise? What is equity without identity? What is equity without reflection? What is equity without belonging? In addition over the past 5 months, principal Ian Levings, Dr. Awneet Sivia, Dr. Cristina Serverius, Jaxon Orth and I have been offering Professional Development around the Equity Backpack to educators across BC and a school in Alberta has also joined us on our journey. I have also included a link to our page which houses highlights of our journey. Principal Ian Levings has been an integral and inspirational role for both staff, families and students in the Equity Backpack journey. MP Vis had previously tabled a Petition in the House of Commons on behalf of truck drivers recognizing the importance of truck stops for the safety not only of the truck drivers, but for everyone who shares the road on that important transcontinental corridor. “Canada’s truck drivers deserve our utmost appreciation for their essential work throughout the pandemic,” continued MP Vis. “The Federal Government must work with the Province of BC to provide funding to ensure our supply chains do not and support for more truck stops suffer.”

Stocking a patriotic pantry (NC) Cooking at home is happening everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With far fewer of us going out to eat, a well-stocked pantry is essential to make life easier. But making sure you have the right items in your cupboard can be a challenge, especially with items you can feel great about. Find help with these tips: Think local

Think seasonality

Look for brands that are prepared in Canada, by Canadians for Canadians. This is easier than you think, with so many products sold in your local grocery store that are created, farmed and prepared in towns and cities across this great nation.

While sometimes fresh is best, canned goods such as tomatoes can be an amazing and tasty solution for fall and winter months ahead. Hunt’s Heirloom, a locally grown canned tomato brand, has a unique offering in their canned tomatoes that taste as fresh as the day they are picked.

Clear things out

Most importantly, use your pantry Take everything out and do an inven- as a resource to try new recipes for tory. What are you missing? Make a snacks and meals. Find some great list, figure out what products are in ideas at readyseteat.ca. your everyday repertoire and stock up. PAGE 27

JEco Friendly is a company dedicated to bettering our environment by providing our customers with reliable and sustainable eco-friendly products. Started in July 2020, we had a vision of what it would look like if everyone made small changes to their day-to-day activities that would better the ecosystem. Our vision included reducing our carbon footprint by reducing our daily plastic use, as well as reducing the plastic that ends up in our landfills by increasing our recyclability and reusability. Everyone can change one thing in their lives to make an active decision to be a part of the solution and what better way than changing everyday stationary products. Making the switch is quite easy and we want to be there to help facilitate this switch by providing reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective products. We want a better future for our kids, and we want a better future for us. Let’s make that change together and chose JEco Friendly.

Let’s stop food waste (NC) While most would agree that wasting food is both irresponsible and uncharitable, many don’t realize that food waste also has a significant impact on our environment and economy.

In Canada alone, close to 60 per cent of all the food produced is lost or wasted every year, and it’s estimated that grocery stores are directly responsible for 1.31 million tonnes of food waste annually. In an age of information and activism, customers are using their purchasing power to drive the change they want to see in the world, adapting their shopping habits to lessen their negative impact on the environment and improve outcomes for their communities. Unable to ignore the realities of food waste anymore and recognizing the significant role they have traditionally played in perpetuating the problem, many grocery stores have started setting ambitious food waste reduction targets, using technology and innovative thinking to reach their ambitious goals. Among those is Canada’s largest food retailer, Loblaws Companies Ltd. In 2017 the company saw an opportunity to fight against food waste. Committing to aggressively cut food waste across its retail operations by 50 per cent by the year 2025, the company surpassed its goal five years ahead of schedule, reducing food waste sent to landfill by 86 per cent in late 2020. The company has now committed to working with

key suppliers to help them halve their own food waste by 2030. Loblaw credits a number of initiatives, updated business practices and key partnership with their success: Flashfood Through a partnership with Flashfood, food nearing its best before date is sold for up to 50 per cent off the regular retail price. Customers can save money while helping eliminate food waste.

Bakery waste Expired and damaged bakery items no longer fit for human consumption are converted into animal feed for use at local farms. In 2020, through this program more than 4.2 million kilograms of bakery food waste were diverted from nearly 140 grocery stores in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Store and supply chain efficiencies The company invested in sophisticated inventory systems to improve procurement practices and forecast planning, as well as data-tracking tools in store to analyze product lifecycles. Through these systems, they can ensure the right amount of food is ordered or prepared to reduce waste, and to shorten supply chains to help keep food fresher for longer.

Expanded mental health supports for women affected by trauma, violence Women affected by trauma and their loved ones will benefit from expanded mental health supports to help more families in B.C. thrive. The ministry is investing $50,000 for the Bridges for Women Society to provide women and families throughout B.C. with expanded trauma counselling, recovery and referral supports to help build resilience. “For too long, women affected by violence have struggled to access the mental health supports they need to rebuild their lives,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “That's why we are expanding services for women and their families who have not only experienced greater risk of violence, but who are also dealing with many added challenges due to the pandemic. I am grateful to Bridges for Women Society for partnering with us to support women and their families through a very difficult time in their lives.”

The society offers healing, education and employment programs for people in B.C. who identify as a part of the women’s community and who have been affected by violence or trauma at any time in their lives. It also offers programs that are trauma informed and aim to meet each woman where they are, without judgment or expectation. “Women have been greatly impacted by the pandemic, some experiencing increased risk of violence and trauma,” said Grace Lore, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equity and MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill. “This investment will benefit women in B.C. by providing the vital mental health services they need to recover.”

“During the pandemic, more women have been affected by trauma, violence and abuse,” said Patricia Rawson, interim executive director, Bridges for Women Society. “We are grateful for this investment that provides funding for much-needed expanded supports for women and their families to heal and build conThe pandemic has had a dispropornections.” tionate impact on women. Avoid any impulsive decisions, especially if they are connected to freeing yourself up in some way. There can be difficulty in getting the facts straight, caused by a lack of information. This may be not so much about what you want to do but what you are allowed to do, based on a situation you find yourself having to deal with.

You can be quite inventive when it comes to dealing with certain obligations. This could also relate to any person in an authoritative position that you might need to deal with. Don’t be too bold on the money side of things though. This is no time to take any risks, as there are too many facets that are not clear. Just have patience.

You will be rather edgy and this could encourage you to say things that are not wise, which you might regret. You could also discover that something hasn’t been dealt with, as it should have been in the past. It is more about correcting it than anything else. It could eventually produce greater long-term stability in a surprising way.

Suspecting that information is being held back from you could be quite correct but you should not focus too much on it. It is far better to concentrate on what you have control of, mainly because you can keep this well balanced, which will produce a sense of harmony. Someone, who is reliable, will emerge at the right time.

There can be difficulty in getting things to go your way, which could be linked to a lack of proper information. You could be attempting to push matters too quickly. Other people are in a strong and stable position as well as quite prepared to use any authority they might have. Those who think they have authority could be a problem.

You have the opportunity to deal with something in a more confident manner than would normally be the case. If there are certain obligations you don’t want to take on, don’t be afraid to refuse. rather be determined to take that direction. You on stable foundations you intend to put in could be surprised to find a particular person place. Don’t allow their behaviour to encourage has similar values and this will be refreshing. you to take risks. Plod along in your own way.

Someone else could be all over the place, making it difficult for you to know where things will head in the future. You need to make up your own mind, especially with any situations you have put time into getting the details right. Be careful that you don’t get left with more work than is fair. They might want you to feel sorry for them.

Don’t waste time in attempting to work out the true intentions of somebody else or what they are expecting from you. You could be quite right when it comes to what you think is the truth but attempting to get an open response is probably impossible. You will enjoy coping with what is necessary, even streamlining things.

Taking risks can cause you more trouble than what it is worth. The slow and steady approach will allow you to put alternative things into place or alter the manner in which matters have been structured for a long period of time. Avoid being stirred up by other people who may do their best to generate tension or aggravation.

There could be little choice but to get on with something that you have left floating for too long. There is a lot you can accomplish but it will be made more difficult if you focus more on what you would rather not do as opposed to what you actually need to do. You will gain a great sense of pleasure once the job has been done.

Is `Krrish 4` arriving soon? I hope we are bestowed with the same love and support : Nupur Sanon When you think of Indian superheroes, the first name that comes to mind is Hrithik Roshan, who brought 'Krrish' to life on the big screen, giving every superhero enthusiast something to look forward to. The 'Krrish' franchise is undoubtedly the country’s most loved and successful superhero franchise and set a benchmark for everything India had to offer within the popular genre. The actor shared a post with fans as the Superhero-drama clocked in 15 years, it was a time for nostalgia but also a hint that the fourth film of the franchise is on its way. 'Krrish' had global significance, was a trendsetter and established many firsts in Indian cinema – from being the first film to shoot in unexplored locations to paving the way for cutting edge visual effects in the country. 'Krrish 4' is definitely in the pipeline. The actor had

earlier mentioned that given the anticipation surrounding the next 'Krrish' film, the makers are all set to take this one to the next level and we expect nothing less from the cult franchise! It all began for the Roshans in 2003 when they came together for ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, a film about an alien arriving at an alien land and befriending a mentally challenged man named Rohit. It leaves for where it belongs but gives him some Superpowers. Three years later in ‘'Krrish'’, Rohit’s son Krishna takes the center stage and we get to see the first legitimate Superhero of the nation and his reunion with his father. Roshan took the visual effects several notches higher and the ambition paid off. The sequel ended on a cliffhanger and the globe was prepared for a franchise.Curiously titled ‘'Krrish' 3,’ Rohit and Krishna this time battled a virus that has

Akshay Kumar unveiled the first look of his upcoming music video, Filhaal 2 - Mohabbat, co-starring Kriti Sanon’s sister Nupur. The superstar shot for the second outing of singercomposer B Praak’s track in New Delhi last December. Singer Ammy Virk also features in the song about love, longing and separation, penned by Jaani. Kumar and Nupur had teamed up for the first part in 2019. The upcoming love song is sung by Punjabi singer B Praak. Jaani has composed the track and Arvindr Khaira has directed its music video. Akshay shared the first official poster of the upcoming

Alankrita Sahai cast as lead in Punjabi film 'Fuffad Ji' Actress Alankrita Sahai has been roped in to play the leading lady in the Punjabi film "Fuddad Ji". The Pankaj Batra directorial also stars Binnu Dhillon and Gurnam Bhullar. The actress, who has been part of films such as "Love Per Square Foot" and "Namaste England", says she had a great time reading the script. "I was given a narration of the script and I literally rolled on the floors laughing. It's one of the films which has to be watched with the family for a great time together," she said. On the unlock situation, the actress feels while things are getting normal, it is important to not let one's guard down. "The pandemic is not over yet. We are moving

Was looking for dark, wicked story for long : Shefali Shah

Busy moving from one project to another, Shefali Shah is working at a frenetic pace, but she has no complaints. The actor has not only resumed the shoot of 'Human', but has also begun workshops for 'Darlings', which sees her sharing space with Alia Bhatt. Her attachment to the film is evident as she begins the chat by saying, “Darlings is a fantastic script. Jasmeet [K Reen, director] is clear about what she wants. Alia, Vijay [Varma] and the rest of the cast have been doing readings. Thank God it wasn’t over a Zoom call, because I find it impersonal. [In our reading], we have reached that stage where we are going [above and beyond] the written word. As an artiste, it’s fun when you let the script go, and keep [improvising].” The drama was originally slated to roll in February. “We lost two months because of the lockdown. 'Darlings' will go on floors anytime now; we will shoot in a biobubble.” Set against the backdrop of a conservative

song. In the poster, Akshay can be seen riding a bike while Nupur hugs him from behind. "And the pain continues. .. If Filhall touched your heart, Filhaal 2-Mohabbat' will

touch your soul. Here's the first look. Stay tuned, teaser releasing on June 30," Akshay wrote. Talking about Mohabbat, Nupur Sanon said, "Filhall has been not just a song but an opportunity of a lifetime. The phenomenal success of the song put me on the map for which I'll forever be grateful to all the fans who showered their love and Akshay sir for being such a supportive co-star and mentor. As we now present Mohabbat, I hope we are bestowed with the same love and support, can't wait to share the song, it is undoubtedly one of the most special experiences of my life."

lower-middle-class neighbourhood, 'Darlings' tells the story of a mother and daughter who find courage and love in exceptional circumstances. It’s the “wicked humour” that drew the actor to the film. “It talks about something important, but at the same time, it’s funny, dark and wicked. I was looking for something like this for a long time, but [makers] often come to me only with serious roles.” The movie marks Bhatt’s foray into production. Lauding the actor for broadening her horizons, Shah says she is inspired by the young generation’s go-getter attitude. “These kids are focused; they know what they want and how to get it. When I was young, I didn’t even know I wanted to act. I started doing theatre, after which I landed a serial. It took me years to realise this is my calling. I never planned my career until recently. I never met directors, nor did I have an agent.

towards normalcy and it's important for us to get vaccinated whenever the opportunity arises. Let's stay safe and I pray for everyone's safety and happiness," she says.

Seerat Kapoor wants to work with AR Rahman

Actress Seerat Kapoor, who is known for her work in Telugu films, is also a trained classical singer. She hopes that some day she will get to work with music maestro AR Rehman. "While I was preparing Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri for 'Rockstar' promotions as an assistant choreographer, I had the privilege to watch AR Rehman jam live. It was the most surreal experience, I didn't blink! I remember, by the end of his performance, I had teary eyes. AR Rehman, through his music can touch your soul. On the first line he sang, I was absorbed by his world. I hope I get to work with him someday," Seerat said. The actor, whose popularity increased after starring in Telugu film "Krishna And His Leela", says learning dance and singing helped her understand the field of performing arts better. "I am trained in Indian classical and semi classical music since the age of 12. At the time, my focus was on dance and music both. Educating myself in the field of performing arts through dance and music simultaneously helped me grow a deeper insight and understanding towards each of them individually, rather early," she says.
