New Abbotsford Law Courts open

A

state-of-the-art courthouse has opened in Abbotsford that will make justice services more accessible and convenient for people in the region. David Eby, Attorney General, the chief justice of British Columbia, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, the chief judge of the Provincial Court, Indigenous leaders, Lisa Beare, Minister of Citizens’ Services, and Henry Braun, mayor

The 16,723 square-metre (180,000 square-foot) building is located in Abbotsford’s city centre. It houses 14 courtrooms: eight Provincial Court courtrooms, three Supreme Court courtrooms and three rooms suitable for case conferences, restorative justice and Indigenous justice cases. Court operations began at the new courthouse on Jan. 18, 2021. The new courthouse is also able to accommodate proceedings of the Court of Appeal for British Columbia.

of Abbotsford, took part in a virtual event to mark the opening. “This new courthouse facility, the first entirely new courthouse built in the province in almost 20 years, will double the capacity of the old courthouse and allow for future expansion to accommodate the rapid growth of Abbotsford and neighbouring communities,” Eby said. “The Abbotsford Law Courts will improve access to justice for people, in an appropriately sized building that allows victims, offenders, lawyers, judges, court staff and the public access in a safe and responsible manner.”

The lack of updated technology in older buildings, such as the original Abbotsford courthouse, hampered the capacity of B.C. courts to maintain efficient operations. The new building is fully equipped with the latest technology supporting the convenience of remote appearances, reducing costs for litigants, lawyers and the court. All the rooms contain modern video conferencing and presentation systems for court hearings and other functions, resulting in efficiencies throughout the facility.

The Abbotsford Law Courts will house community corrections, prosecution services, legal aid, duty counsel, Aboriginal court workers, a justice access centre and an expanded courthouse library, consolidated in The Abbotsford Law Courts mark the one facility. first entirely new law courts facility built in B.C. since the Chilliwack Law Courts were completed in 2002. My Journey to Canada: Part 22 India Cultural Centre of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas was the first place of worship on Richmond’s Highway to Heaven, also known as Number Five Road. Even before my arrival in Richmond from BC’s interior, I would often visit Gurdwara Nanak Niwas on special occasions. However, since my move to Richmond in 1990, I have been actively involved in this Gurdwara as a volunteer, Committee Member and as part of the Management Committee. As a matter of fact, it has been a great privilege for me to work with some of the wonderful people associated with Gurdwara Nanak Niwas under the capable leadership of pioneer, lumber baron and philanthropist, Chairman Asa Singh Johal.

The beautiful park just outside the main entrance has an impressive display of seasonal flowers and sprinklers. Closeby is Yadgar-E-Khalsa installed in 1999 as the tercentenary celebration of the birth of the Khalsa. 37 Gurdwara societies had agreed unanimously to install this memorial at Gurdwara Nanak Niwas. It is important to note that “social distancing” is a misnomer; we should be physically distancing but remain as social as ever. It can be as simple as making a phone call to your support networks, such as your friends and family members. If you have access to video, you may want to turn on the camera. Increased stress can also lead to an increase in alcohol and substance use intake. If you or someone you care about is starting to use alcohol or other substances, especially during these times, you should contact your healthcare provider, who can help you with providing resources and/or treatment if needed. Most people who drink excessively are not alcoholics or alcohol dependent. Excessive alcohol use includes binge drinking, which is 5 or more drinks on occasion for men, and 4 or more drinks on occasion for women.

with stress.

Alcohol is also closely associated with violence, including intimate partner violence. Men perpetrate most of the violence against women, which is worsened by their alcohol consumption. In contrast, women experiencing violence are likely to increase their alcohol use as a coping mechanism. If you are a victim of violence and are confined with the perpetrator in home isolation, you need a safety plan in case the situation escalates. This includes having a neighbour, friend, relative or shelter to go to if you need to leave the house immediately. Try to reach out to supportive family members and/ or friends and seek support from a hotline or local services for survivors. If you are under quarantine and need to immediately leave the house, call a local support hotline and reach out to someone you trust. Finally, the critical point to remember is that under no circumstances should you drink any type of alcoholic product as a means of preventing or treating COVID-19 infection.

Something that has been forgotten related to money could come to light either on the receiving or owing side. You might also review an area in which you had planned to spend or invest money. It could be that your priorities are changing more than you anticipated and requires a rethink on where to spend money.

There is a need to review your level of commitment or responsibility, either in relation to what is manageable personally or because new opportunities arise. What can be favourable opportunities for growth can arise. To take full advantage, you need to ensure you are not or will not be too bogged down to manage effectively.

You could see so many avenues for the development of future goals that it becomes overwhelming. Initially, you need to take a serious look at anything you feel does not have much of a future or doesn’t really interest you to continue pursuing. Being able to enjoy what you do will be paramount and you should accept nothing less.

Someone else can be extremely secretive about their intentions. This could generate frustration in you, mainly because you will feel as though they want ultimate control. The more openly you state what you would like or expect, the more secretive and illusive they will become. You need to let time take its course.

A super busy time when it comes to other people. This could include exciting new people coming into your life. It might also represent changed attitudes for the better from someone else, though this might be something you need to make them aware that you expect. It is a good time to review commitments expected of you.

Tackle anything you suspect could cause some issues when it comes to putting future goals in place. This is an excellent time to establish new habits yourself both on the health and exercise side or with matters you need to deal with on a regular basis. You could surprise yourself with inventive ways to work around things.

Take every opportunity to create greater enjoyment in all that you do. There needs to be an element of practicality underneath it all but there will be ways to expand the lighter side. Part of this might be acknowledging the pressure somebody else places on you, which is more to their benefit than yours. Work at balancing this.

Whether you like it or not, some sort of completely new structure needs to be put in place in your life. This could involve home and family matters. You could feel others want to leave you with little choice and it might be this that you need to address, especially if it has been going on for a while. Set out to turn things around

You can be brimming with new ideas or perhaps find yourself in a situation where there is a lot of new information to take on board. If you are putting forward new ideas, you need to be mindful of then dealing with the details involved in turning them into a solid reality. Getting them accepted will be easy, doing the work, not so

This is a good time to come put new directions in place, involving finances. This can include working with other people either on a personal or business level. It could also mean tidying up past debt. You have to watch taking on too much of a risk. It is better to follow your natural tendencies towards being conservative.

The New Moon this week falls in your own sign along with a number of planet combinations generating the start of new cycles. You can have feelings you have not had in a long time that give you a sense of forward movement rather than having to wait or feeling stuck. Something from the past may need rethinking.

There is a huge amount going on behind the scenes and much of it can produce some good results in the future. At the moment, you are being encouraged to look at what you need to let go of in order to bring some newness to life. Part of this might be taking up an interest in something that involved you mentally in the past.

Kriti Kharbanda hopes for a 'time machine'

It is not a good thing that theatres are closing down : Salman Khan

Bollywood actress Kriti Kharbanda is soaking in the sun and is hoping for a miracle.Kriti posted a picture on Instagram, where she is seen dressed in a white tank top. She completed her look with minimum make-up and hoop earrings."Soaking in the sun, hoping for a miracle, a time machine maybe?! sundayfunday takemeback," she wrote as the caption.Talking about her work, Kriti was last seen in the thriller

Salman Khan is all set to release Radhe Your Most Wanted Bhai in cinema halls on Eid. In an interaction with the media at the recently held opening ceremony of Indian Pro Music League in Mumbai, the Bollywood superstar revealed why he agreed to release Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai in cinema halls at a time when many are taking the OTT route.Salman said, “We have made three movies that are ready for release. Theatres are looking like graveyards right now. There are also so many theatre owners who have had to close down because of financial reasons. It is not a good thing that theatres are closing down. This is our business. Our work is to act and make movies. Where will we show our movies (if theatres close down)? It is like a catch 22 situation. They are incomplete without us, and we are incomplete without them.” He added, “They (exhibitors) had requested us to release Radhe in theatres, and now

that things have eased down and we are seeing people roaming around normally, we can do it (release the film in cinema halls). Theatre owners are going to be careful (about Coivd-19 protocols), and I’d request fans to be cautious too. They should sanitise their hands, keep a safe distance and be responsible. Now that the vaccines have come, I think we are all heading towards a safe zone. I am hoping 2021 and 2022 are better than 2020 for all of us.”

Don`t come unprepared to Mumbai to be an actor : Rajkummar Rao

Thanks to OTT, stardom seems to have gone now Nick is a lot neater than I am: Priyanka Actor Priyanka Priyanka said that Nick and she : Pranitaa Pandit Chopra Jonas has revealed that also have a different preference

Actress Pranitaa Pandit feels the rise of OTT platforms has generated popular support for performers and actors, and she is of the opinion this is a reason stardom seems to have gone away. "OTT platforms are boosting a lot of performers and actors. It's true that because of that, stardom seems to have gone away and people are not becoming overnight stars. I think it's absolutely fine this way because, for me, acting is a profession just like any other is. It's just that we get a bit of fame and people know us, and we get popularity because of our work," she said. Pranitaa was seen in shows such as Kasautii Zindagi Kay and Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki, says no one should behave like a star.

among the many things that she learnt about husband NIck Jonas during the lockdown in US last year was that he was way more organised than her.On the latest episode of The Ellen Show, Priyanka shared that she has become more disciplined than before about maintaining the house after realising that she was the messy one between her and Nick. When Ellen DeGeneres asked The White Tiger star what she learnt about her husband while spending time with him during lockdown, Priyanka Chopra said, “That my husband is a lot neater than I am. Because I don’t want to be the messy one in the house, I have started keeping my shoes back, making the bed in the morning.” Besides,

for where they like to eat. “He loves eating on the dining table. He can’t eat on the couch which I love doing. I have learnt that at times we have to pivot towards each other. He prefers a dining table for dinner. He is very formal that way. He is super fancy.”Ellen DeGeneres also asked Priyanka Chopra about the progress on her piano lessons that the actor had earlier said she was taking during lockdown. Priyanka sheepishly replied that her training stopped after two days because she couldn’t get it right. Sharing that her teacher was Nick himself, Priyanka said, “I did for a good two days, and then I was like I can’t. I wasn’t coordinated to do it. It was too hard. He was the one who was trying to teach me and then gave up because I gave up.”

Rajkummar Rao, noted for his nuanced performances, says cinema is changing and aspiring artistes must prepare first before coming to Mumbai. "The only talent I had is that I fell in love with my art. I fell in love with acting as a kid. I was never chasing fame or money. I thought to myself that this is something I really love and I want to do for the rest of my life. With that dream, I started doing theatre in Delhi and later joined the film institute in Pune because I didn't want to come to this city unprepared," said Rao."I wanted to train myself first. This is something I often tell budding actors – (don't do it) just because your friends believe you can mimic and you have good looks and you should go to Mumbai. Do not come to Mumbai unprepared, especially now, when cinema is changing. We need talent out here now. So train

yourself first and then come to this city, as there are so many w o n d e r f u l opportunities. The only talent I had was not to give up and k e e p chasing my dream without having any plan B," said Rao, while interacting with the media at the launch of Satyam Srivastava and Rajeev Garg's book, Neelkanth. Talking about the book, the actor said: "It's a mystery thriller about a cop in Delhi, so the concept of this book itself excited me a lot. After knowing both of them and after knowing its basic storyline, I am looking forward to reading it." Asked if he would like to be a part of the film, which is reportedly being planned on the book, he said: "Absolutely! I am always in a search of good stories so that we can make a film out of it. I am sure it will be an interesting and exciting book, so I think we can make a major feature film out of this book."

People have been perennially trivialising mental health : Neha Dhupia

Mental health has been a raging discussion throughout the pandemic, and that’s what drove Neha Dhupia to greenlight Step Out. The short film, featuring Dhupia and directed by Hridaye Nagpal, has been produced under her banner, Big Girl Productions. “Domestic violence cases saw a 10-year high during the lockdown. There was a 20 per cent increase in mental health cases. These are alarming numbers that finally led to a conversation on self-care."
