City of Abbotsford to Explore Market Opportunities for Fraser Valley Trade and Exhibition Centre After careful consideration, the City of Abbotsford has commissioned an RFP to gauge market interest in the Fraser Valley Trade and Exhibition Centre (TRADEX) as the first step towards transforming the property into a revenue-generating asset for the City and its residents. As part of its ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility, the City of Abbotsford continually reviews its asset portfolio to identify potential risks and opportunities to maximize revenue. According to financial projections, the TRADEX property under a new tenant or tenants, could generate significant return on investment over the next 25 years while the municipality retains land ownership through a long-term land lease or facility rental model. Through a competitive RFP process, the market will determine the best use and value for the property.

In the meantime, TRADEX will continue to be operated by the Tourism Abbotsford Society on behalf of the City and all current programming at the facility will continue without interruption. The City acquired the TRADEX facility from BC Pavilion Corporation in 2003 but does not collect any revenue from its activities. The Tourism Abbotsford Society currently manages the facility on the City’s behalf and all revenue generated by TRADEX activities is reinvested in the property and Tourism Abbotsford operations. The City recognizes that TRADEX has been an important regional venue for numerous business and community events. This process may generate questions and concerns from a variety of stakeholders, and the City is committed to supporting impacted stakeholders as best it can through this transition.

“These seasonal workers are so vital to our farming communities and play an integral role in preserving our province’s food supply,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. “Extending our quarantine program will provide peace of mind to workers, employers and communities that we are doing everything possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I know some of these workers leave their homes to come to B.C. year after year, many returning to the same farms where they have developed close relationships, and we are grateful for their help in growing and harvesting food for British Columbians.” The B.C. government will continue to fund hotel, food-service costs, laundry services, wellness walks, interpretation and translation services, health screening and other necessary supports for these workers during the quarantine period. Upon arrival in Canada, temporary foreign workers will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms by federal officials (Canadian Border Service Agency and Public Health Agency of Canada). If they have symptoms, they may be placed in quarantine at the point of entry or be sent to the hospital as per the federal Quarantine Act. If asymptomatic, workers will continue on to the provincial quarantine site for 14 days. Following the quarantine period, if no symptoms develop (or once the employee is fully recovered if symptoms do develop), workers will be safely transported to their farm.

feel safe and valued as they leave their families in Mexico and come work on B.C. farms. For Juan, who has three children and one more on the way, the quarantine period is a time for him to connect daily with his family for longer periods of time than he is able to when he’s working on the farm. Juan has worked at the same farm for three years and sends his earnings home to support his growing family. Oscar, who is a farmer and a swim coach back in Mexico, also comes to B.C. seasonally so he can support his wife and two children. “In the context of COVID-19, the Consulate of Mexico in Vancouver praises the actions taken by the B.C. government to ensure the safety and health of Mexican Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program workers by providing quarantine centres and physically inspecting the housing facilities before their arrival,” said Berenice Diaz Ceballos, Mexican Consul General. “The ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, and the consulate has allowed us to keep our nationals safe and informed. We look forward to jointly addressing the challenges we face during these complex times and after the pandemic is over.”

All farms receiving workers are required to have infection control and prevention measures in place and require an on-site inspection prior to worker arrival. Farmers and farm workers must also follow all provincial health officer (PHO) guidelines, including the PHO industrial camp For workers like Juan and Oscar, the order, which covers B.C.’s agriculture quarantine program is helping them and seafood industry.

Billions of dollars committed for projects remain unspent and half of the funds the government has committed to infrastructure are actually the legacy funds of the previous Conservative government. “We have shovel-ready infrastructure projects waiting in every corner of MissionMatsqui-Fraser Canyon”, said MP Vis. “Since my first weeks in Office, I have advocated to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities for funding to support the expansion of BC TransCanada Highway 1 and continue to push the government to release funding they have pledged to support green and social infrastruc-

ture for projects in Mission, Kanaka Bar, Lillooet, Bralorne, and more”, said MP Vis. The Auditor General states clearly, “the government cannot ignore long standing issues – they do not go away”. The scathing report outlines the Government’s big promises and little deliveries. The Liberals never back up their announcements with real action. Canada’s Conservatives are the only ones who can fix the infrastructure mess that Justin Trudeau has created. We will secure jobs by scrapping Justin Trudeau’s failed Infrastructure Bank and replacing it with a plan that actually gets shovels in the ground and people back to work

NDP MLA Pam Alexis says new ecosystem projects in the Abbotsford Area will help restore and protect our habitats and wildlife

New Democrat MLA Pam Alexis says that funding through BC’s Economic Recovery Plan will help restore ecosystems, wildlife and habitats in the Abbotsford area, ensuring their health and resilience in a changing climate.

“The efforts of locals to preserve and protect our environment is inspiring,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission. “B.C. is beautiful and biodiverse, and this area along the Fraser River is no exception. This funding will support important conservation for our local wildlife and habitats.”

A partnership between Immunize BC and community pharmacists to make the COVID-19 A s t r a Z e n e c a / C O VISHIELD vaccine available to those aged 55 to 65 living on the Lower Mainland is ready to launch on Wednesday, March 31. “We’re moving ahead with our immunization plan and delivering on our promise to British Columbians to move as quickly as possible, and as safely as possible, to get them the vaccines that they have been waiting patiently for,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. To help combat high numbers of COVID-19 cases in the Lower Mainland, Immunize BC is partnering with community pharmacies in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser health regions to provide vaccinations ahead of B.C.’s COVID-19 Immunization Plan’s agebased schedule. “The AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine is another important tool in our immunization program to get us past this surge of COVID-19 cases. We know from the millions of doses used worldwide, and especially in the U.K., it is highly effective and the benefits to those over age 55 far outweigh the very real risks of getting COVID-19,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer. “I encourage everyone in the Lower Mainland who is between 55 and 65 years of age to receive their safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine today.” Beginning March 31, 2021, those aged 55 to 65 may call their local pharmacy and book an appointment to receive their vaccine. Drop-in service may be an option at the more than 150 participating pharmacies. A complete list of participating pharmacies can be found here: http:// www.bcpharmacy.ca/resource-centre/covid-19/vaccination-locations

People must bring their personal health number, which is found on their BC Services Card or CareCard. “Since the approval of the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine, the first fridge-stable vaccine available in Canada, we have been planning this partnership with our community pharmacy sector,” said Dr. Penny Ballem, executive lead of B.C.’s COVID-19 Immunization Program. “This initial phase is an exciting start to our ongoing work together, which will distribute the 300,000 anticipated doses of this vaccine to the whole province.” “Pharmacies are ready to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in B.C. by beginning to offer vaccinations by local pharmacists near where people live,” said Annette Robinson, president, BC Pharmacy Association. “Pharmacists have done vaccinations since 2009 and safely delivered more than 1 million flu shots to British Columbians this past flu season.” On March 29, 2021, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommended a pause in the use of the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine in all people under 55 years of age in Canada until more information is available on the rare events of blood clots seen in some countries in Europe. There is now an opportunity to use AstraZeneca doses available in B.C. to focus on those whose risk of COVID-19 is higher and to give them protection sooner.

Having a career abroad comes with price : Nimrat Kaur

Actress Nimrat Kaur, who has been part of international projects such as "Homeland" and "Wayward Pines", says that due to her involvement outside Bollywood, she doesn't get a lot of films to choose from in India. However, the actress adds that she has never had to remind anyone of who she is. "I

am not in circulation as I might have liked to be regularly. I may not get to choose from a big spectrum of parts which otherwise I would have got. But it has never come to a point where I have to remind people about who I am," Nimrat said. She adds that she might not be offered the kind of roles that she wants, but that's the "price" she has to pay for a career abroad. "They might not offer me exactly what I am looking for, but that's part and parcel of life. I have a career abroad and here. That comes with a price," she says. Talking about the kind of work she wants to take up, Nimrat says: "I cannot think of a genre I will not attempt, even if I fail at it. I am looking for all kinds of work. The more you do, the more you want to. It's a bottomless pit where you can keep playing different people." Nimrat will be seen in the film "Dasvi", which also features Yami Gautam and Abhishek Bachchan.

I`m extremely scared of heights and flying : Amyra Dastur Actors Amyra Dastur and Kunal Kapoor got a chance to engage in adventure sports while shooting the title track of their upcoming film "Koi Jaane Na" in Panchgani. Amyra claims she is extremely scared of heights and flying, and the experience helped overcome her fear."This was the first thing we shot for. I was super excited because I love trying new things. I learnt rappelling and it was my first time on a para plane," Amyra recalled her experience during the Panchgani outdoor shoot. She added: "I'm extremely scared of heights and flying so this truly helped me face my fears and pushed me to perform well even though I was quite scared." The peppy title track is composed by Amaal Mallik and written by Kumaar, and sung by Armaan Malik, Amaal

Rasika Dugal on why she is sceptical about special appearances

Rasika Dugal has a special appearance in the new sci-fi comedy web series "OK Computer", and the actress admits she was initially sceptical to come on board the show! "I have a special appearance in the show. I appear very briefly though the character is connected to the story in a big way. I was initially sceptical because special appearances are common in the West but not so common in the Indian scenario, and people tend to consider it as a small role," Rasika said. Throwing light on the web series, she added: "It examines what technology is doing to us and how we respond to it and what the future of something like Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be. It is already an integral part of our lives. In a sense, I feel the series is way ahead of its time." How tech-savvy Rasika is in real life? The actress bursts into laughter. "I am an extremely tech-unsavvy person. Lockdown has been very hard for me. I've finally learnt how to do a zoom call without technical glitches and now I'm a proud owner of a web camera, a laptop, a ring light and earpods -- none of these I had before lockdown. Now I know how to connect a web cam to a

laptop and how to switch on a ring light!" she replied. On a lighter note, the actress added: "I don't know what energy vibe I give to electronic equipment because they tend to collapse in front of me. I feel something is wrong!" The series stars Vijay Varma and Radhika Apte, and has veteran Jackie Shroff in an interesting role, but Rasika regrets not being able to share the screen with him. "I've been a huge fan for many years and have grown up watching him in different kinds of films. I just bumped into him a couple of

times during the dubbing and promotions. I hope there will be another season and I get an opportunity to work with him," she said.

I spoke Hindi throughout the movie, I hope that’s one thing that gets appreciated : Larissa Bonesi: Brazilian model-turned-actress, Larissa Bonesi has been candy to the eye. She started her career back in 2011, in the super hit song “Subah Hone Na De”, starring Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. Larissa Bonesi will soon be seen in Netflix's upcoming web film Penthouse with Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol, and is directed by Abbas-Mastan. In a media interaction, the actress revealed how she shot for her digital debut, and what makes this one a special project.“Working for penthouse was really amazing, one of my best experiences shooting for a movie. I had a great chance to work with everyone from the directors to the producers, the actors, the crews, even the light people everyone was really welcoming. I made a lot of good friends for a lifetime.

Mallik and Tulsi Kumar and. While exploring locations to shoot the number, the film's director Amin Hajee thought of using adventure sports as a theme, in order to give it the vibe of a fun song. Amyra and Kunal engaged in several adventure sports including paragliding with a bicycle, kayaking and rock climbing."Koi Jaane Na" is a psychological thriller slated to be released on April 2.

Being judged over 'success' is mentally disturbing : Sunil Shetty

He has been in the industry for three decades now and has had his share of hits and misses. Sunil Shetty says that an actor is judged according to his success, which can be mentally disturbing.Sunil, 59, made his Bollywood debut in 1992 with Balwaan. He was later seen in films such as Sapoot, Hu Tu Tu, Krodh, Hera Pheri, Dus, Kaante, Border, Gopi Kishan and Chup Chup Ke among many others. Talking about living the fastpaced life in Bollywood can be mentally exhausting, Sunil said. "It is not the pace or the effort that is exhausting. It is people around judging you all the time. Success and failure mean so much. You're judged according to your success which is mentally very disturbing," said Sunil. The actor, who is all set to host a show titled "21 Din Wellness" on BIG FM, stresses mental and physical fitness."That is why staying mentally and physically fit is very important -- because it keeps you going and if you are not then you aren't an actor. That is why

wellness means a lot to me," he added. sSunil, who is the father of actress Athiya Shetty and debutant Ahan Shetty, finds radio a very expressive medium. "The reach is a lot more and this is one medium which is very expressive. I thought if the Honourable Prime Minister reaches out through this. I don't think there is a better medium than this. So, thanks to the radio. You add the visual layer to it, we'd give the expression through voice," he added.

Arjun was a really great co-actor, Bobby sir, Sharman Joshi, Cyrus Broacha were really warm and fantastic working with," shared the actress.Larissa further added, "I spoke Hindi throughout the movie, I hope that’s one thing that gets appreciated especially the acting with Hindi. One of the words that actually got to me is passion because the passion to do your work, when to do your work and how to do your work, I just got to learn a lot. By the way, I did my hair and make-up for the movie so I just hope that also looks good. I am just very happy that I made it to Penthouse and I can’t wait for the movie to get released.” Larissa Bonesi made her debut with the movie Go Goa Gone and later appeared in the hit music videos like Surma Surma with the sensational singer Guru Randhawa and a number of other songs like Yes or No, Are You Coming and Dim Dim Light. She even featured in the 2016 Telugu movie Thikka

Household must-haves for spring (NC) Spring is a time for refreshing and renewing, and that includes the spaces in your home. As you declutter and reorganize, here are some essentials every home needs this season: Fresh paint colours A quick fix to instantly revitalize any room is a new coat of paint, so be sure to have some on hand. A small can for touch-ups is great to have on standby, as well as some bold or pastel colours to upcycle an old dresser or flowerpots for an easy way to achieve a new look. Baskets of all sizes Most of us are doing some tidying now, and that means you’ll need to sort the items you end up keeping so they’re easy to find and don’t look messy. Baskets of all shapes, sizes and materials are great organization tools that work in the bedroom, living room, bathroom and kids’ play area. Keeping extras at home so you don’t PAGE 26

have to go to the store each time you need one is also a timesaver. Covid care items Our must-haves have expanded recently to include sanitizer, wipes and masks, so make sure you have plenty of these at home so you’re not scrambling when you run out. With all of us washing our hands more frequently, a good moisturizer is also indispensable. Made from a deeply hydrating natural substance found in sheep’s wool, Medela's Purelan lanolin cream is a great option for protecting your skin's outer layer while rebalancing natural moisture levels from within.

There should be plenty to occupy you but this could easily distract you from matters going on behind the scenes. It would not be wise to presume you know what can be expected from somebody else, especially if money is involved. Making your priorities clear does not necessarily mean they are accepted. You must follow up.

What you would like to do and what you feel you can do without stirring up too much controversy can be two different things. This could unwittingly bring you to a point where you need to be realistic. There will be commitments attached and while you are capable of handling them you may need to ensure there are boundaries.

Before you enthusiastically rush into something take a good look at the responsibilities attached, as they may not be as easy as they are portrayed. This you could discover from Mid May. Keep your longer-term goals in focus with the view of maintaining your independence when it comes to any future choices.

Get as much rest as possible as your energy level will not be high. Finding some quiet time to yourself will give you the opportunity to contemplate the way a matter can be tackled that should be moving forward but is unclear. Knowing the true desires or expectations of somebody else can be difficult to tap into right now.

Expect a busy and active time involving other people. It might be difficult to work out exactly what they are looking for or expecting from you. You should avoid taking on commitments for this reason, especially if they cannot be changed. Focus on your own priorities and any actions necessary to put things into motion.

Someone else can be charming yet mysterious. You cannot afford to take them on face value, especially when it comes to what they believe will be future development. Employing your natural analytical skills will enable you to realise where things don’t add up. You should not waver from whatever you want to establish for yourself.

The days may seem to drift by without accomplishing what you intended. You may wonder where the time went. Distractions can come from unexpected expectations of others. This will be difficult to curb if you feel guilty about not responding to them. You can certainly make things more enjoyable but you must be determined.

What starts out as fun involving somebody else can turn out to be more for their benefit than yours. This could make you realise that you cannot afford to put any more time into it. Your focus needs to be on matters you want to put into place that will bring underlying security and benefit. This could include home and family.

You are in a good position to put your ideas forward. There is likely to be something about this that will not follow normal protocol. Even so, some sort of traditional aspect can be maintained. Be sure you have all angles covered because anybody you might need to challenge will be prepared to fight for their position.

Attempting to make final decisions on any matter can be difficult. You might be trying to push something too quickly. More time and energy probably needs to be put into the details, especially if it needs to satisfy somebody else. An unexpected opportunity can arise either connected to something you want to buy or work.

You should be full of optimism because the opportunity to pursue something important to you can present itself. This could come about in an unusual way or it could mean you need to go after it in your own way. The only thing you have to watch is spending money on impulse and taking things on face value. Investigate.

There can be much to enjoy on a personal level this week. It may be hard to feel motivated when it comes to general routine but it won’t hurt to be lazy for once. You need some time to think and contemplate so that you can take advantage of the active cycle you have until 23rd April to start putting things in place for solid results later.
