Grant supports culture of accommodation in the workplace Individuals who are dealing with a mental or physical health impairment will be better supported to safely return to work, thanks to new funding for the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR). The Province is providing NIDMAR with $6 million in a one-time grant to administer a return-to-work and disability management education program and support project over the next four years. “Every worker has the right to return home safely from work,” said Dan Coulter, Parliamentary Secretary for Accessibility. “As someone who has endured a serious workplace injury myself, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to return to the workplace. This funding will help more people successfully transition back into the workforce.” The project has three strategies to support B.C. employers’ capacity to accommodate injured workers to return to work, as well as increase the number of people with disabilities in the provincial workforce:

Quick tips to refresh your medicine cabinet (NC) Warmer weather means it’s the perfect time to deep clean your home or refresh your wardrobe for the warmer weather. But when it comes to your medicine cabinet, what should stay and what should go? Here are some easy tips to spruce up your medicine cabinet and get the most out of your products. Check your expiry dates When was the last time you checked the expiry dates on the items in your medicine cabinet? The expiry date listed on a cosmetic product means it’s good until that date if the product is unopened or never used — but once you’ve opened the packaging, its shelf life starts winding down. As a rule, your products are only good for about a year from when you open them, so check their best-by dates, especially for products at the very back of your cabinet.

Bathroom storage space is often limited, so purchasing multi-purpose products — like a toothpaste that prioritizes gum health, gently whitens teeth and fight cavities all at once — is ideal and lessens the need to buy multiple products. Re-stock your cabinet by season

The moisturizers and beauty products you use in winter are often too heavy for your skin in spring and summer. The air is dryer in winter, requiring a heavier-duty moisturizer to comSave space with multi-purpose prod- pensate. If your skin is feeling oily ucts as the weather warms up, switch to a lightweight facial moisturizer and foundation made for your skin type.

I have this long-standing wish to be a part of a superhero universe : Aadar Jain Bollywood actor Aadar Jain wishes to be a part of a superhero franchise. He says that as an artiste, he would love to enthral children with his films and being a superhero will enable him to do so. Aadar says, “I would love to be a part of a superhero project. Growing up, I was a huge fan of Batman and idolised him for what he stood for. The Batman Nolan franchise is my all-time favourite.” Aadar has always been a comic book fanboy. He says, “I have marvelled at the superheroes all my life

as they are true spectacles for audiences and I have this longstanding wish to be a part of a superhero universe.” He adds, “I think I’m trying to manifest this dream to become a reality and I would be over the moon if this ever happens. As an actor, I like doing projects that appeal to kids and families and I hope that this dream of mine becomes a reality.”

I was very close to my grandmother : Aditi Rao Hydari Actor Aditi Rao Hydari believes a life-affirming film like "Sardar Ka Grandson" is important in today's time as it's about family and the bond shared with them.Directed by debutante Kaashvie Nair and scripted by Anuja Chauhan, the film narrates the story of a devoted grandson (Arjun Kapoor) who embarks on a complicated and comic journey to fulfil his ailing grandmother (Neena Gupta) last wish. In the film, Hydari plays the younger version of Gupta. The 34-year-old actor said the film reminded her of the bond she shared with her grandmother. "I was very close to my grandmother and she passed away a few years ago and it broke

my heart. A film like this is special because it is about a grandmother, her dream, her love. It is also about family, how there are stubborn and determined people in the family, making it all happen. These warm, fuzzy films are so life- affirming in every way and are so important,' Hydari said. The actor praised Nair for capturing the film with all heart and warmth. Also featuring John Abraham, Rakul Preet Singh, Soni Razdan, Kanwaljit Singh, among others, is produced by T-Series, Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment. It will be released on Netflix on May 18. Hydari, meanwhile, is elated with the response to her performance in Neeraj Ghaywan-directed segment of 'Ajeeb Daastaans', titled 'Geeli Pucchi', also starring Konkona Sen Sharma.

A huge screen can't be erased by something screened on your phone : Boman Irani Good writing is the need of the hour, feels actor Boman Irani, to sustain audience interest at a time when OTT provides a surfeit of choice. "The OTT platform gives an opportunity not only for writers but also actors and technicians. However, on OTT, there are thousands of choices. It takes 10 to 15 minutes to reject if you cannot engage the audience in their home. This can be avoided with good writing, which also applies for the rest of the show. Writing has become the superstar on the OTT platform," Irani said. "If your script is not good, your acting won't come off well, and I say this even for theatrical releases. Why should you have weaker scripts

just because it is in the theatrical space?" he adds. Theatrical release of a lot of films, including big-ticket ones, have been postponed amid the ongoing second wave of the Covid pandemic. While this spells losses for Bollywood, Irani sees a silver lining. "The pandemic has created a lot of problems. I am hopeful and saying this in a positive tone that once things open up, people will be dying to get back to the theatres and there will be a big surge of footfalls in theatres again," he hopes.

Grateful to know people want to see more of me onscreen : Shilpa Shetty As actor Shilpa Shetty returns to acting in movies with Nikamma and Hungama 2, she says her only wish is to entertain the audiences, who have been waiting to see her on the big screen. The actor has been away from the big screen for more than a decade but Sabir Khan’s Nikamma marks Shetty’s comeback to movies after her last full-fledged 2007 movie Apne. The actor feels grateful to her fans who have always showered love on her despite her being away from the silver screen for more than a decade. She will also be seen in Priyadarshan’s comedy Hungama 2 alongside Paresh Rawal, Meezaan, Pranitha Subhash, among others. “The love I have received over the years is unbelievable. It makes me happy, humble, and grateful to know people have appreciated my performances and are wanting more. Also, I love being on set and acting in front of the camera. I am so excited to be back and doing what I am really passionate about,” Shilpa Shetty said . Nikamma is an action entertainer, while Hungama 2 is a sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2003 hit film of the same name. Both films are

ready for release. “My main objective is to entertain people with good stories. These two films have an amazing and interesting plotline. So, I instantly felt connected and wanted to be a part of this world. I am sure the audience is going to have a great time while watching it,” she added.

If you're invested in your work, audience is invested in your story : Rasika Duggal Actress Rasika Duggal said she tries to avoid focusing on what people expect of her while bringing alive a role. She feels what matters is being invested in one's work."I try to not focus on delivering as per what people expect from me. I always believe that if you are invested enough in your work, the audience will be invested enough in your story. The idea is to keep myself invested and interested in the story," Rasika said. She will soon reprise her role of Dr Meera in the second season of web series "Out Of Love". Earlier, she returned in the second season of "Mirzapur", and soon she will be seen in season two of "Delhi Crime".About her return on "Out Of Love", she said: "I find season two is very fascinating. It's a very different experience."The actress does accept there is a

certain sense of comfort when it comes to working in a known set-up."It's comfortable in terms of shooting because you already have the sense of your team -if the team is the same, the framework. For example, the 'Mirzapur' team was largely the same, so I already knew my way around it. I knew the things which were working and ones which were not. Once all of that is dealt with, you can focus on your work rather than worrying about all those things.".But would comfort factor be the same if a show went on, for several seasons? "I don't know how I would feel if the show went on for many, many seasons. I presume there would be a point where you would get a little tired but I haven't had that experience yet, so I can't say, " shared Rasika.

Happy Anniversary When we first met, I found a great friend in you. Slowly our relationship turned into love and then I found a life partner in you. Still, you are my best friend. That’s the beauty of our relationship. Thanks for supporting me in all my ups and downs, thick and thin. I promise that I too will take care of you the same way. If I say, it's our collective efforts that have made our marriage exemplary, it would be wrong. It’s all because of you, and you deserve all the credit.

Happy Anniversary, Sweetheart!

(NC) The global pandemic continues to challenge many community business owners to maintain their revenues and keep staff employed, despite provincial lockdowns and restrictions. In fact, according to Canadian Federation of Independent Business, over half of business owners agree that their business model has changed or will significantly change with 45 per cent of business owners having to work significantly longer hours to maintain their business.

How Canadians can help local businesses succeed

Fortunately, we can all help to support our favourite small businesses and create a positive impact in our local communities. For those wanting to show their support, here are three simple tips: 1. Support a local store when stocking up on supplies. Instead of grabbing your bread during a weekly grocery shop, visit a local bakery to get a fresh sourdough loaf PAGE 24

2. Send a personalized message or positive review. There’s nothing like sharing a unique and thoughtful message of your positive experience with a small business. Take a moment to share your experience on social platforms such as Facebook or Instagram and recommend them to friends and family. 3. Nominate a small business for financial funding. Many small business owners are running at full speed to meet the demands from the pandemic. They’re often so busy pivoting to new concepts and ways of operating that they don’t have the time to look for investments. Show support by nominating them for funding they might not know about, such as the Purolator True North Small Business Grant Contest. This can help businesses expand and boost the local economy.

3 hacks to help you say goodbye to allergens in the home (NC) Battling the sneezes and sniffles is never easy, but a few simple tricks can help keep allergies to a minimum this year.

your windows on high-pollen days. If you must have your windows open, consider investing in an air purifier to help filter out allergens.

Clean air

Fresh fabrics

You probably focus your energy on dusting surfaces and even hitting those high-up shelves, but are you making time to clear the dust from your vents? Air conditioning vents and separate units gather dust quickly, which get scattered into the air we breathe when we start to blast the AC. Make dusting your vents part of your weekly clean-up.

You wash your clothes, so why wouldn’t you wash household fabrics? Fabric traps allergens and can trigger allergies. If your throw pillows or furniture have removable covers, consider washing and vacuuming them a couple of times a year. Also try to wash your bed linens once a week and duvet covers bi-weekly.

Closed windows A nice breeze can feel refreshing, but it’s not always worth it if it leaves you sneezing and feeling congested. Keep an eye on pollen reports from your local weather site and close PAGE 26

Investing in an efficient washer and dryer can be the first step towards an allergy-friendly home. The LG WashTower is a great solution, easily tackling allergens with its specially designed wash cycle with steam technology. Learn more about its sanitizing and cleaning capabilities at lg.ca.

A very busy week ahead for you with plenty of opportunity to move forward, though you will have to watch distractions because of so much happening at once. The New Moon occurs in your sign bringing new beginnings. Endings will be part of the process. How you feel will depend on whether you think you have a choice.

Venus, your ruling planet, will move into your sign this week where it will remain until 9th May. This can bring with it a sense of calm on a personal level. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that you know you can do little to change. The main thing is to ensure you do not generously take on obligations. It won’t be worth it.

You could realise it is time to change your priorities. Pressure from the expectations of somebody else could have a lot to do with it but this does not necessarily mean you need to accept what they want. Having this thrust upon you could get you to think more seriously about what is important for your own future.

There is a need to approach obligations in a new way, especially when it comes to dealing with somebody who either has power, or thinks they have. In all likelihood they will be held more responsible and need to work with you, so don’t let this get passed off onto you. There could be support for you that you are unaware of.

Detailed work put into any plans you have for the future will pay off handsomely as these things are pursued later. With this could come an awareness of changes you could make that would be beneficial. Anything that requires response from others can prove to be very popular, even bring a lot more than you had anticipated initially

If you are finding the expectations of others take up your free time, now is the time to make changes once and for all. You are probably better equipped to set out a plan so that they learn to manage for themselves. Then you need to be determined to take the action of removing yourself from any obligations that are not yours.

that you do not get too drawn into their matters changes to daily routine can certainly place and wanting to please them only to find that you in a good position to put a foundation in this will distract you from pursuing your own place that has can positively grow in the future. goals.

There can be much to enjoy in the company of others or in any situation that involves creativity, leisure or pleasure. If an exchange of ideas is part of the process, much headway can be made that will not only please you but any other people involved. You should not be tempted to lay out any large sums of money.

Do not leave any necessity to get something organised for future development, which might include home or family matters. Something new will be part of the process that will require you to put some work into the details. This will not be difficult but you could easily be lazy about it. It is important you keep control.

You should feel good about yourself and be primarily optimistic about personal opportunities. New information or ideas can come your way – look into them as they could be more beneficial than you initially presume. You will need to look out for hidden aspects that could be restrictive but you should be used to that by now.

New opportunities could come up regarding finances, even a job. If they don’t seem to fit in with present priorities you should perhaps take a closer look. There could be greater benefits than first seems obvious that will only surface if you are prepared to seek more information. This may challenge you to alter your priorities.

This investment is part of the overall $97 million announced in Budget 2021 for child and youth mental health and substance use supports to further advance the B.C. government’s plan, A Pathway to Hope. It reflects the continued commitment to work across government on real, lasting solutions, and on upstream investments that will make a difference in the lives of many British Columbians, including children, youth and families, for years to come.

Supporting local businesses can be easy (NC) From lockdowns to restrictions, local businesses have faced many challenges this year, impacting their ability to maintain revenues and keep staff employed. In fact, 45 per cent of the country's small businesses owners have to work significantly longer hours, according to a report from Canadian Federation of Independent Business. At least 152,000 Canadian small businesses have adopted e-commerce since the start of the pandemic. Supporting them is important to your community and local economy. For those looking to help local small businesses, consider these easy and free ways to show your support. Write a Google or Facebook review. Leaving a positive review can help others in your community discover the business and encourage them to visit. Highlight your favourite item on the menu or a share a positive experience you had with an employee.

Follow and interact through social media. Behind every great Instagram account is a small business owner who is having a difficult time managing costs or staff during this challenging time. Like, comment, or share their posts with friends and family to help drive awareness to their services. It can bring a smile and encourage them to stay resilient. Nominate them for a financial grant program. Many small business owners are running at full speed to meet demands, and don’t have the time to look for help. Show support to your favourite local businesses by nominating them for funding programs, such as the Purolator True North Small Business Grant Contest. This grant can help them with financial investment to drive business growth. PAGE 31
