Are COVID-19 vaccines safe and effective? (NC) Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the prospect of a vaccine has given us hope for a new normal. Now that the moment is here and COVID-19 vaccines are rolling out, many of us have questions about their safety and effectiveness. To help answer your questions, it’s important to get information from credible sources, like Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, your local health authority or a health professional. First, don’t think of it as the vaccine. There are many COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in Canada. They are all safe, of high quality and offer protection against COVID-19. They currently fall under two categories:

This kind o f vaccine uses a virus (not the virus that causes COVID-19) that’s been made harmless to produce coronavirus proteins in your body without causing disease. This protein will trigger an immune response that will help protect you against COVID-19. Vaccine safety

Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines were rigorously tested during development, and then carefully reviewed by Health Canada. In fact, a vaccine must be safe, effective and of the highest quality before it is authorized for use mRNA vaccines in Canada. MP Brad Vis Calls for Action on Treatment of Protesting Indian Farmers

B

rad Vis, Member of Parliament for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon, presented his 12th petition calling on the Government of Canada to condemn the acts of violence perpetrated against farmers in India peacefully protesting domestic agriculture policy changes that affect their livelihoods. This is the 5th time MP Vis has risen in the House of Commons to table petitions on this issue, representing the signed support of over 600 individuals. “I am proud to join with petitioners in my riding in calling on the federal government to condemn the use of violence and reaffirm Canada’s international support for the fundamental freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly.” MP Vis said. “I’ve been to a number of local rallies in support of these farmers and echo their message: Without farmers, we don’t have food, we don’t have a future.”

MP Vis stands with the vibrant South Asian community in Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon as they peacefully demonstrate in support of their friends and family in the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. No other Member of Parliament has tabled as many petitions on this critical issue as MP Brad Vis. He continues to call on Justin Trudeau and his government to defend and promote the democratic principles our nation was founded on.

Pregnant people in B.C. can safely get COVID-19 vaccine All pregnant people who are age 16+ are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccines as a priority population through B.C.’s Immunization Plan. “All Health Canada-approved vaccines are safe and effective, and I encourage everyone to register and receive their vaccine as soon as they are eligible. Today, this includes people who are pregnant,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer. “We have reviewed the data here in B.C. and this shows pregnant people experience severe illness from COVID-19 at a rate that is similar to people who are in their 50s. By prioritizing pregnant people today, we add another layer of protection for them, their babies and their communities.”

“We are fortunate to have had the ability to track data across Canada to better understand the real impact of COVID-19 in pregnancy,” said Dr. Deborah Money, BC Women’s Hospital, Provincial Health Services Authority. “My hope is that knowing vaccines are safe and effective at any point in pregnancy will encourage those who are currently pregnant to take the opportunity to get vaccinated.” Registration is now open for all persons aged 18+ in British Columbia. People 50+ who have registered can expect to start receiving email and text notifications to book vaccine appointments beginning on the following days:

To book a vaccine, people who are Tuesday, May 4: 52+ (1969 or earlier) pregnant can: Thursday, May 6: 50+ (1971 or earlier) register at gov.bc.ca/getvaccinated if they have not done so already, As of May 4, 2021, more than 1.8 milphone 1 833 838-2323 and identify as lion people in B.C. have received their being pregnant. Expanding emergency counselling services in Lower Mainland hospitals Youth and young adults in the Lower Mainland will benefit now and in the future as Dan’s Legacy Foundation expands its free mental health and substance use outreach at Surrey Memorial, Royal Columbian, Burnaby General and BC Children’s hospitals. The expansion, supported by a $1.35-million grant from the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions, will allow Dan’s Legacy to double its counselling and outreach team to 10 therapists, two social workers and two youth outreach workers.

“Young British Columbians who need mental health and substance use care deserve quick access to quality, specialized supports,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “The emergency counselling services that Dan’s Legacy provides are vital to youth at one of their greatest times of need, and I’m grateful to the foundation for enhancing this service to support more British Columbians during the pandemic, and after.”

referrals from other agencies to its trauma-informed counselling and wraparound programs. “There is a very short window of opportunity when a youth in crisis is asking for help,” said Barbara Coates, executive director, Dan’s Legacy. “In the past two years, our pilot program has shown that when we can get in front of a youth immediately and connect them to our counselling program and wraparound support, the successful outcomes for young people in terms of increased stability

and positive mental health doubles. We’re grateful for the support of the ministry and pleased to see the government putting more resources toward harm prevention.”

The foundation’s counselling services are available for people 15 to 25 years of age who have experienced trauma and mental health or substance challenges, and their families. More cellular service for B.C. highways Improved cellular service is coming to B.C. highways 95 and 97 as record investments from the Connecting British Columbia program continue to benefit people throughout the province. “While miles apart, these two highways have many things in common. They can have difficult winter driving conditions, they’re prone to sudden road closures and they have large gaps without cellular service,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Citizens’ Services. “We can’t change the weather, but we can make strategic investments to help expand highway cellular service in B.C. With these latest projects, we are on track to more than triple our target to increase highway cellular coverage, making our highways safer than ever before.”

program to upgrade cellular service along Highway 95 between Golden and Spillimacheen. This work will include improved coverage at the Braisher Creek rest area and in the communities of Nicholson, Parson and Harrogate. The Connecting British Columbia program was expanded in September 2020 as part of StrongerBC: BC’s Economic Recovery Plan. For the first time in the program’s history, a mandate was included to improve access to cellular for people in rural and Indigenous communities. “Rogers is proud to continue investing in British Columbia on these highway connectivity projects to build critically needed 5G networks to bridge the digital divide in partnership with the B.C. government,” said Dean Prevost, president, Connected Home and Rogers for Business. “Connecting Canadians, including rural, remote and Indigenous communities, is a top priority for Rogers. Through this partnership, we are providing improved safety and reliable connectivity for those who depend on highways 95 and 97, while creating new jobs and supporting B.C.’s economy.”

Rogers will receive up to $5.47 million from the Connecting British Columbia program toward the estimated $6.4-million cost of filling in cellular gaps along 68 kilometres of Highway 97 between Chetwynd and the Highway 39 junction. The route includes Pine Pass, a sparsely populated area prone to avalanche conditions. What is accepted now keeps changing, do whatever makes you happy : Shruti Haasan

Getting into uncertain sphere pushes me to do better : Ileana D`Cruz Actress Ileana DCruz says almost all her roles made her wonder how she would pull it off, and that is what pushes her forward. "I think in most films that I have done I constantly question how I will do it, and that is what pushes me forward because I think if I walked into a film completely cocky and confident, I wouldn't be really able to do justice in a way," Ileana said . Ileana, who was recently seen in the digitally released film "The Big Bull" says she likes uncertainty. "I like the uncertainty, not really knowing how I am going to do it. I like getting into a sphere that is uncertain. It sounds really strange but it pushes me to do better and work harder," she said. Ileana will next be seen in "Unfair N Lovely", a comic take on India's obsession with fair skin. The film is set against the backdrop of Haryana, and casts Ileana opposite Randeep Hooda.

Mandira Bedi to play 'fierce, fiery, fantastic' cop in upcoming web series

Mandira Bedi will soon be seen in a cop avatar, in an upcoming murder mystery series. "I play the role of Ruhana Dhulap, a sharp, short-tempered yet successful police officer. She is fierce, fiery and fantastic at what she does. However, it is this one murder case of a young businessman that has her completely web locked and she puts her all into solving it." "I have played a police officer before but Ruhana's character

My fans are my extended family : Neha Kakkar

Singer Neha Kakkar says she loves creating content and interacting with fans on social media. The signer along with her husband Rohanpreet Singh will create short content for a social media platform."I love social media. My fans are like my extended family, they give me so much love and appreciation for everything I do, and that's what I love about it. I'm looking forward to putting up videos that can appeal to the millions of people on the new app," said Neha. "As a creative person, I like to be involved in things that entertain people and spread happiness in general. I create content that I think I would enjoy watching too," who along with Neha has joined the short video.

is different, and what I enjoyed the most was (the fact that) her approach to each interrogation is unique. I believe this is a series that's truly one of a kind. I am eagerly looking forward to the release of this edge-ofthe-seat thriller," she said.

Actress Shruti Haasan's love for the gothic look and make-up is known to her social media followers. She shares how being an actor doesn't stop her from experimenting with a look that she connects with. "I was really into metal and alternative culture from graphic novels to dark gothic literature, so it just felt like a natural extension, " the actress, who is also a musician, said. Shruti does not agree that a gothic look make could be risky for actresses to play with the look."There is nothing risky about connecting to a look or vibe that looks authentic to you. The riskier thing to do in life is dressing, speaking, behaving and presenting yourself to the world in the way that they approve of, " she says. The actress adds: "There is a risky thing about approvals as well. What is accepted now keeps changing. So, you may as well do what makes you happy without stepping on people's toes". "Most people love it and the subculture and they get the vibe! There are those who don't personally lean toward the aesthetics but understand why someone would like it, " she says. On the work front, Shruti was recently seen in the Pawan Kalyan-starrer "Vakeel Saab". She has started shooting for "Salaar", which stars Prabhas, and "Laabam" with Vijay Sethupati.

I love to do films on social issues :Yashpal Sharma Actor Yashpal Sharma, who has played memorable roles in movies such as Lagaan, Gangaajal, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Lakshyam, Singh Is Kinng, Aarakshan and Rowdy Rathore, is currently seen in the film Van Rakshak. The movie is a story inspired by a true incident. Directed by Pawan Kumar Sharma, it is currently streaming in ShemarooMe and stars Aditya Shrivastava, Falak Khan, Dhirendra Thakur and Rajesh Jais. Shedding light on his character in the film, Sharma said, "My name in this film is Dogra. He is a District Forest Officer (DFO). Dogra is very honest. He plays an important role in boosting up the spirit of the main protagonist. He is also angry at the government because they are approving many projects and allowing constructions that are damaging the environment. So he is against it because he knows the consequence of this mishap of greed."

"The subject of this film has attracted me the most. I love to do films on social issues. I have worked with Pawan ji earlier with B r i n a (Himachal's first film based on the subject of Polyandry) and Karim Mohammed. His speciality is that he picks social issue. Van Rakshak is based on the issue of development at the cost of nature. The major global crisis we are going through today is environmental. The current pandemic and lack of oxygen is proof enough. So the subject of the film attracted me to do this project," said Sharma. He further adds, "When I saw the film, I was startled. I extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire team. The film is released on the OTT platform and I would want you all to watch it and also give your utmost contribution to protect our environment and respect its value."

ccupational therapists (OTs) are regulated health care professionals who work with children in a variety of settings, including schools, at daycare, and at home. 3 hacks to help you say goodbye to allergens in the home (NC) Battling the sneezes and sniffles is never easy, but a few simple tricks can help keep allergies to a minimum this year. Clean air You probably focus your energy on dusting surfaces and even hitting those high-up shelves, but are you making time to clear the dust from your vents? Air conditioning vents and separate units gather dust quickly, which get scattered into the air we breathe when we start to blast the AC. Make dusting your vents part of your weekly clean-up.

You wash your clothes, so why wouldn’t you wash household fabrics? Fabric traps allergens and can trigger allergies. A very busy week ahead for you with plenty of opportunity to move forward, though you will have to watch distractions because of so much happening at once. The New Moon occurs in your sign bringing new beginnings. Endings will be part of the process. How you feel will depend on whether you think you have a choice.

Venus, your ruling planet, will move into your sign this week where it will remain until 9th May. This can bring with it a sense of calm on a personal level. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that you know you can do little to change. The main thing is to ensure you do not generously take on obligations. It won’t be worth it.

You could realise it is time to change your priorities. Pressure from the expectations of somebody else could have a lot to do with it but this does not necessarily mean you need to accept what they want. Having this thrust upon you could get you to think more seriously about what is important for your own future.

There is a need to approach obligations in a new way, especially when it comes to dealing with somebody who either has power, or thinks they have. In all likelihood they will be held more responsible and need to work with you, so don’t let this get passed off onto you. There could be support for you that you are unaware of.

Detailed work put into any plans you have for the future will pay off handsomely as these things are pursued later. With this could come an awareness of changes you could make that would be beneficial. Anything that requires response from others can prove to be very popular, even bring a lot more than you had anticipated initially

If you are finding the expectations of others take up your free time, now is the time to make changes once and for all. You are probably better equipped to set out a plan so that they learn to manage for themselves. Then you need to be determined to take the action of removing yourself from any obligations that are not yours.

that you do not get too drawn into their matters changes to daily routine can certainly place and wanting to please them only to find that you in a good position to put a foundation in this will distract you from pursuing your own place that has can positively grow in the future. goals.

There can be much to enjoy in the company of others or in any situation that involves creativity, leisure or pleasure. If an exchange of ideas is part of the process, much headway can be made that will not only please you but any other people involved. You should not be tempted to lay out any large sums of money.

Do not leave any necessity to get something organised for future development, which might include home or family matters. Something new will be part of the process that will require you to put some work into the details. This will not be difficult but you could easily be lazy about it. It is important you keep control.

You should feel good about yourself and be primarily optimistic about personal opportunities. New information or ideas can come your way – look into them as they could be more beneficial than you initially presume. You will need to look out for hidden aspects that could be restrictive but you should be used to that by now.

New opportunities could come up regarding finances, even a job. If they don’t seem to fit in with present priorities you should perhaps take a closer look. There could be greater benefits than first seems obvious that will only surface if you are prepared to seek more information. This may challenge you to alter your priorities.
