Safe, effective COVID-19 Liberals must address floodpediatric vaccine available for affected B.C. residents facing children aged 5-11 border fines Ed Fast, Conservative MP for Abbotsford, and Brad Vis, Conservative MP for Mission— Matsqui—Fraser Canyon, released a statement following reports that flood-affected B.C. residents are being charged for COVID-19 tests to cross the border to get essentials:

Children in British Columbia five to 11 years old will soon have access to Pfizer’s COVID-19 pediatric vaccine. “The pediatric COVID-19 vaccine directly protects children and will mean less disruption to the activities that are important to them, such as school, sports and social events,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer. “Once children are vaccinated, parents can feel more assured their children are safe, and children can feel empowered knowing they are taking another step to protect their grandparents, teachers, friends and loved ones.” On Nov. 19, 2021, after a thorough review, Health Canada approved the Pfizer vaccine for children five to 11. This vaccine uses a lower dose (10 micrograms), at onethird of the dose formulated for older children and adults, which will provide effective protection tailored to children’s immune systems. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) advises that children receive a two-dose series of the vaccine with an interval of eight weeks or more between the first and second dose. The pandemic has had a significant impact on PAGE 6

Getting vaccinated will help families get back to many key activities in their communities.

Parents and guardians who have registered their child with Get Vaccinated will begin receiving invitations on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, to book appointments. Registration ensures parents are notified by text or email when it is time to book their child’s appointment. Some health authorities are hosting clinics dedicated to children in certain communities. Pharmacies will continue to offer first, second and booster doses only to eligible adults 12 and older, at this time. Parents or guardians with questions about the COVID-19 vaccine for their child can call 1-833-8382323, or visit: gov.bc.ca/vaccineforkids Parents can also consult with their child’s pediatrician, family doctor or nurse practitioner so they can make the best decision for their child.

NDP MP Gord Johns calls on government to decriminalize drug possession and provide safe supply NDP critic for mental health and addictions, Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni) reiterated his party’s call on the federal government to decriminalize the simple possession of illicit drugs and ensure access to a regulated safe supply during his visit to Vancouver’s Downtown East Side on Monday. “Today, there were memorial services for three people who suffered overdose deaths, likely because of an increasingly toxic drug supply,” Johns said. “There are dozens of these memorials every month for people whose deaths are entirely preventable. Public health experts have said decriminalizing small amounts of drugs and ensuring a safe supply will help save lives. But the Liberal government continues to fail people struggling with addictions by refusing to take action. It’s time the Trudeau government started treating addiction like the public health crisis it is –that approach would help thousands of Canadians.”

“Insite workers are telling me that decriminalization of possession for personal use combined with access to a regulated safe supply is urgently required.

Charity Launches Emergency Flood Response and Appeal The Salvation Army has launched a massive emergency response effort to help victims of the worst flood in a century in British Columbia. Emergency Response Units are on the ground in communities across the province providing food, hydration, shelter, clothing, and blankets to first responders, evacuees, and flood victims.

They also mobilized two more emergency disaster vehicles on standby in case the weather begins to change over the course of the next several days. “Several of our locations outside of the impacted areas mobilized their units and their communities immediately to assist in the effort,” says Leland. “This is a tragedy unfolding and we are here for those people and communities day and night and we will be here to end, and see this through into the recovery phase… this is what we do, but we don’t do it alone.”

“We have been on the ground since day one in the hardest hit communities,” says Mike Leland spokesperson for The Salvation Army in B.C. “We have several of our trained emergency response units actively supporting the impacted communities. First-of-its-kind agreement signed between Lake Babine Nation, B.C. Lake Babine Nation and the Province have signed a collaborative agreement to advance reconciliation, social and community well-being, and regional economic growth under environmental assessment legislation. The agreement is an important step in shared decision-making between the Province and Lake Babine Nation. The collaboration agreement describes how the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) and Lake Babine Nation will work together on future environmental assessments for projects in the Nation’s territory. It highlights the Nation’s assessment criteria for proposed projects, including the Nation’s Sustainability Framework and Socio-Economic Impacts Framework, allowing proponents to understand what Lake Babine Nation expects of projects proposed for its territory. The collaboration agreement is the first to be signed under Section 41 of the Environmental Assessment Act (2018) and establishes a key shared decision-making

precedent for the Province. It is also an important step in advancing the EAO’s and Lake Babine Nation’s reconciliation journey. The collaboration agreement marks the completion of a key step toward a consent agreement, which is one of the milestones in Lake Babine Nation Foundation Agreement reached between Lake Babine Nation, the Province and Canada in September 2020. A consent agreement will further strengthen the Nation’s role in decision-making on environmental assessments by requiring the Lake Babine Nation’s consent for certain projects to proceed. The foundation agreement adopts an innovative, milestone-driven approach to reconciliation, designed to promote the collaborative implementation of Lake Babine Nation’s title and rights, strong partnership between the Nation and the Province on environmental stewardship, social and community well-being, and economic growth for both the Nation and the larger region. The collaboration agreement advances all these objectives.

Connected with her by the eighth day of shoot : Mrunal

Though Dhamaka is centred on Kartik Aaryan’s news anchor, it is Mrunal Thakur’s character that propels the story forward. Writers Ram Madhvani and Puneet Sharma have etched out her part as a headstrong television journalist who finds her personal and professional lives intertwined. “No matter what profession [we are in], we all have to go through emotional turmoil [in our personal lives] while dealing with deadlines and the boss’ demands. It’s not an easy situation for Soumya [her character],” says Thakur. She describes the role as “dear” to her. “By the eighth day of the shoot, I started deeply connecting with her. But by then, it was time to say goodbye to her.” For the actor, the journalist’s ability to put on

a brave face when her personal life is in shambles struck a chord with her. “The best thing that has happened to me is when a critic or the audience [rave about] a particular scene featuring me. This, despite the scene being shot when I was having a bad day. At such times, I feel good knowing that I was true to my profession, no matter what I was going through in my personal life. That’s the beauty of Ram’s characters as well.” Thakur is thrilled to add a Madhvani directorial venture to her resumé, but the bigger high was to collaborate with Amruta Subhash on the Netflix project. She turns into a fan girl as she recounts, “When I met Amruta, I asked for a picture because I am a big fan of her work. Shwas [2004] is one of my favourite films. However, we don’t have any scenes together.”

For me, best homework is when I’m in costume : Saif Ali Khan

It ’s difficult to imagine the charismatic Saif Ali Khan as a flabby, pot-bellied man. But doesn’t the joy of acting lie in becoming a character far removed from you? “It was quite a bit of flab,” laughs Khan, who piled on the kilos to play the complacent railway ticket collector Rakesh Trivedi aka Bunty in Bunty Aur Babli 2. “That was the point of the role — a middle-aged, slightly unhappy guy who has let himself go. Then, the character progresses to becoming fit, happy and adventurous. So, while prepping for the role, I let myself go in real-life too. Becoming overweight wasn’t difficult. I took it easy on the exercises and ate what I loved, but when it was time to knock off the excess weight, I became more serious about hitting the gym.” His excitement to breathe life into Bunty aided his transformation. Unlike co-star Rani Mukerji who is all too familiar with Babli, having played the role in the 2005 hit that spawned the franchise, Khan had to acquaint himself with the character and make it his own. “I was keen on playing a small-town hero. Earlier, romantic comedies with NRI, urban-centric characters were the trend. Today, heartland stories are [dominant].” The small-town setting wasn’t the only factor that drew him to the Varun V Sharma directorial venture. In the recent past, the actor has had more than his fill of grey, edgy roles. A lethargic former con artist was a perfect change of pace. “Rakesh is positive and nice, loyal to his wife, and a hero for the working man. Then, he gets a chance to have some fun again and gets renewed energy to lose weight, and have an adventure.” The physical transformation aside, Khan says he also started prepping for the character at home, weeks before reporting to the set. “If you have the luxury, you can become that character at home without upsetting your family. You can slip into that zone physically and mentally. But before that, you have to figure out the layers to your role. For me though, the best homework is when I am in my costume.”

I was told I’m pretty but look very ordinary : Yami

Yami Gautam Dhar had everyone sit up and take notice when she bravely opened up about her skin condition, Keratosis Pilaris, in her post on social media recently. This is not the only time the actress spoke openly about what are perceived as “flaws” in the glamour world. In a cut-throat, competitive business like showbiz, actors are constantly pushed to try to look picture-perfect. When asked what is it that makes her want to put out pictures of herself looking raw and real (sans make-up), she says, “It comes with a certain sense of security that you feel either from the beginning or over a period of time through your experiences. The reason I have been vocal about it is because I feel that there might be other people out there who, too, are facing the same issues as me. I was surprised to see the kind of reaction I got for my post. I have read almost all the comments, and the one that caught my eye was a girl talking about how she feels pressurised with the thought that boyfriends or husbands expect their partners to be as flawless as actresses look on screen.”

role in the latest web series ‘Special Ops 1.5 : The Himmat Story’ alongside actor Kay Kay Menon, says working with a veteran actor like Kay Kay on his second project is almost like taking an acting class that he cherishes forever. The new season is a prequel to the main espionage thriller that was released last year. The show is created by Neeraj Pandey and it also features Vinay Pathak and Aftab Shivdasani. As the story goes to a flashback on how Himmat Singh, played by Kay Kay, becomes the officer he is now; the story unveils how the chase between Himmat and Rajendar to recover some of the top-secret national data after R&AW officers were honeytrapped. Aadil Khan said “I do not want to reveal too much about my character Maninder Singh here because that would be a spoiler but of course Maninder changes the life of Himmat. It was such an interesting role and I was getting a chance to work with two of my favourite people of the industry – Neeraj and Kay Kay – that it was a no-brainer for me to say ‘Yes’. “Eventually, when I realised that I will be sharing screen space with actors like Aftab Bhai, Kay Kay sir and will be directed by Neeraj sir, I had a mixed feeling of being nervous and excited. I think, just by observing Kay Kay sir, one could learn so much about acting, he is like an acting school himself.”

Choose my projects based on my strength and weakness : Tara

Actor Tara Sutaria says her film choices are governed by how well she fits in the world envisioned by the writer and director. The 25-yearold actor started her acting career as a child artiste with Disney India show "Big Bada Boom" (2010) and made her debut as a female lead with "Student of the Year 2". She followed it up with action-romance "Marjaavaan" and is now gearing up for the release of "Tadap", opposite Ahan Shetty. Sutaria, who is also starring in "Heropanti 2" and "Ek Villain Returns," said she feels blessed to have played varied parts so early on in her career. "I choose a project based on the story and whether I can fit into the world of what the director envisions. I take into consideration my strengths and weaknesses and

then make my choices. I feel blessed to be part of these films and play such different roles. Every film and every role has been a learning experience," the actor said. While "Student of the Year 2" was a "fun" experience, for "Marjaavaan" the actor learnt sign language and with "Tadap" she said she got the opportunity to play a character with many shades. "In 'Tadap', I am playing a character who is completely opposite of who I am in real life, the character also has a lot of shades, so it was interesting to play her," Sutaria added.

If there is anything you feel unclear about when it comes to somebody else, you should set out to discuss it. This could clear up presumptions or uncertainties on both sides. An opportunity can present itself which will allow you to make future plans that can be pleasure orientated or that will satisfy your priorities more so.

Your interest will be moving forward in a manner that will open you up to greater freedom and enjoyment in the long term. Other people involved might be expecting more than you can realistically manage. There will be challenges but as long as you focus on the details or work that needs to be done you will eventually get there.

You could realise the amount of work involved in something you thought was important, isn’t worth it. You may need to change your priorities based on the expectations of somebody else. Before you do, you should consider the amount of control or the limitations that come with this. Your independence can’t be put aside

Work hard on finalising things that need to be put into place so that you will be free to enjoy yourself more. It will not hurt to question any pressure somebody else is placing on you to perhaps get things done more quickly. It might simply mean pointing out the amount of work involved if matters are to be dealt with properly.

Anything that has been important to you on a personal level during the last two years can now reach a stage where you feel you are in a better position to do things your way. You might get some opposition from somebody who thinks they know better but there will be ways of either getting support or working around them.

Follow what you believe is the most balanced approach when it comes to putting things in place or dealing with family matters. Don’t be influenced by somebody attempting to make you feel guilty or perhaps sorry for them. You need to act on what you consider you can handle because it will work best and be the most efficient.

It may be necessary to make a final decision to end something that has proved inefficient or a big time wasting exercise, otherwise it can hold you back over the next 2 years. You need to weigh up opportunities that you know you can enjoy against accepting limitations that can result in restricting potential future growth.

Being prepared to be serious, as well as putting in the effort required to get a good foundation in place that you can continue to develop long term has every potential to reap successful rewards. It might take a while to be as financially satisfying as you would like but if you are determined to persist, your rewards will materialise.

In any situation where discussion will take place be cautious as to the underlying agenda of those involved. This is not a time for you to be forthright with your ideas to get things going. You need to see what is put forward. That way it will become obvious as to where there is support, as well as the opportunity to have your say.

Catching up with friends or acquaintances and be most relaxing and enjoyable as long as you ensure your responsibilities don’t suffer. There is no reason to spend more money than you feel comfortable about. Stand your ground in any situations where somebody else expects you to accept the way they want to do things.

Finances could encourage you to reconsider something that was an important priority, especially if it involved travel or that it was for reasons of getting away from it all. You could enjoy the feeling of having money behind you for when the unexpected arises. Being able to let your mind wander can be a relaxing practice.

There is little point in attempting to avoid responsibilities, especially with people who have authority in some way. You will benefit more from being prepared to negotiate in such a manner that you give assurances you will see things through. From your standpoint, you need visualise yourself taking these future directions.
