The Executive Report

As I write this, we have just celebrated our nation’s birth – July 4th – our Independence Day! I hope that you all had an enjoyable holiday – one filled with fun, sun and fireworks. I want to start this article with a big thank you to the Ohio Milking Shorthorn Society for holding a wonderful national convention. You should be proud of your event. This was my third convention as Executive Secretary and I keep learning about things that need done and see how hard each convention committee works to put on the best convention possible. One of my favorite parts of convention is always the banquet. At the banquet we honor the juniors with their awards, present the annual three prestigious awards and at the end the Fun Auction is held. The three special awards were well deserved. Congratulations to Mary Bell Cooksley, posthumously, of Haumont Shorthorns for the Dual Purpose Breeder of the Year. Congratulations to Jason and Emily Monnat for the Young Breeder Award - although the Monnats could not attend, the award was presented in front of their friends, family and home state making it even more special. Congratulations to Gordon and Beverly Withers for the Citizen of the Year Award, receiving the award as a surprise with family present and with home state friends. For me, presenting the awards was an honor. Each of these individuals have given to the breed that we all love and it was our opportunity to honor their accomplishments. Before the banquet, a reception was held and Gordon Withers walked up to me and asked, “You don’t remember me do you?” I promptly answered, “Yes, I do, you are Gordon Withers and my dad purchased our first Milking Shorthorns from you.” Gordon laughed and said, “I didn’t think you would remember, you were a little girl when your dad came to my farm to buy some cows and you followed him around looking at the cows. “ I didn’t remember that part, I was only seven. I do remember my first calf though. She was from a cow my dad purchased that day – Honey Creek Red Pansy 2nd and she had an all-white calf – J. Laughery Pansy Kristy Anna – born August 24, 1977. Probably not the right calf to start a little girl in 4-H with, but I loved her. She wasn’t the best show calf, but she gave me lots of heifer calves that did do well in the show ring and she was the best producer in the barn. Fortunately, her offspring followed her in that area. We still have cows in our barn that trace back to that cow. After the banquet, the annual Fun Auction was held. I always look forward to this because auctions are fun and I love to watch the competition of who will get the last bid. Plus, this is for fun, so crazy things happen. This year, the item was a Walla Walla Onion brought from Washington State by Gordon and Beverly’s

By Scott Cailteux Another successful annual convention, meeting and sale has come and gone. The Ohio Society is to be commended for the time and energy they invested in planning and hosting this meeting. The accommodations, events, and hospitality created a great environment for productive meetings, a great sale, and good times for all. Pat Agnew, Mike Halpin, Mikayla Krause and Susan Lee were elected to serve three-year terms on the National Board of Directors at the annual meeting. A great deal of gratitude is due to Katie Agnew, Steve Marak and Kylie Preisinger, all of whom concluded their terms as Directors on the Board. Serving on the Board requires a significant amount of time and personal expense. All three of these individuals always put their best foot forward and thus made significant contributions to the breed during their tenure on the Board. The Board of Directors has ambitious plans for the upcoming year. While we have made significant strides toward improving the service level of the National Office during the last year, we fully expect that we will continue to make substantial improvements during the upcoming year. As part of this effort, we plan to publish a member survey in the Journal later this year. Please take the time to complete the survey as it will provide the Board and the National Office with some valuable feedback and insight. In addition to our focus on improving our service level, we have several other important initiatives we will be working on throughout the year, such as: • Determine if it makes sense to invest AMSS funds for genomics testing. Given the significant investment that is required to establish and maintain a testing program, we want to make sure we Cont. on pg. 7

daughter, Ginger. By the time it was struck off and the auctioneer had turned it into a ‘milking onion’ that brought $150!! Proceeds went to the Junior Society and the purchaser was Gordon Withers. A lot of laughter and fun was had over that one. After the evening was over, I was cleaning up my things and Gordon walked over to me and I congratulated him again and then said “I will have to come by later and get a slice of that milking onion.” He laughed and soon returned carrying the onion and said “I want you to have this.” I told him I couldn’t take his onion and he said “Ginger brought two home and I want you to have this.” It was an onion but I was deeply touched. It seems a little crazy but it sparked in me something else. It was just an onion but it is full of layers just like our Milking Shorthorn society – as you peel away the top layers there is much more underneath. On the surface, Milking Shorthorns are a dairy breed, but below that there is so much more. Our breed represents commercial breeders, show breeders, cow-calf, native, beef and

informational purposes and have no impact on herdbook status or show eligibility. • Develop a new and improved AMSS website. I look forward to working with you during the upcoming year. It is my hope that we can

dairy breeders. Breeders' involvement is varied in layers too – full herds of Milking Shorthorn, just a few, or they are owned but boarded in another herd. Then there is the society itself – it is an entire series of layers, with the top layer being our number one thing that people think of for the society and that is registrations and transfers. Under that layer are items that support the registrations/transfers – classification, milk recording, DNA, sire summaries, show winnings and embryo recording. Then there is another layer that supports the information - the Journal, advertising, marketing, national shows and promotion of our breed. The next layer includes committees, endowment and foundation. Then the heart of the onion – the membership, AMSS Board, Executive Secretary and office manager. If any of the layers aren’t supporting its own layer and the layer above it, things can rapidly fall apart. To improve our Society and its many layers, over the next several months, I will be working on a project to support our “onion.” I will be working on putting together a Strategic Plan,

Business Plan and Marketing Plan. To do this, I have to start with a first layer and that will be to gather information in the form of a survey to gather the thoughts and opinions of you, the breeders, on what you are thinking about the society and where we need to be heading. I will be “peeling away the layers” to figure out what AMSS’s focus should be going forward to build a stronger society. As the survey becomes available, please take a few minutes to complete it and submit it to the office to have your voice heard. We all need to support the layers of our society if we want our breed to remain strong and grow. From the gift of an onion to improving our society – I will continue to work hard for you the breeders. Breeding for Tomorrow, Junia Isiminger Executive Secretary

American Milking Shorthorn Endowment Minutes

June 15, 2016 Present: Clark VonTungeln, Jerry King, Shirley Harris, Brenda York, Marcia Clark, Junia Isiminger and Scott Cailteux. The American Milking Shorthorn Endowment Meeting was called to order at 9:08 p.m. at the Embassy Suites of Columbus in Dublin, Ohio. The election votes were counted with Brenda York being unanimously reelected to another five-year term. The minutes of the June 18, 2015 meeting were read. Motion to approve the minutes by Brenda York and seconded by Marcia Clark. Motion passed. Clark VonTungeln reported that the second set of record cards that were in the safe deposit box had not been updated in years. Clark photocopied all of the updated cards and placed alphabetically in a binder. Now there are one set of cards and a set of copies of the cards in the binder, creating two sets. Discussion was held regarding the best way to keep the donation records. IN MEMORIAM

As presented by Tom Landrum during the Annual Meeting. Thank you Mr. President, madam secretary, delegates, members and friends. This position never gets any easier. As the cycle of life moves forward, we continue to lose members and friends. In delivering the 2015-2016 In Memoriam report I will: present the resolution, I will recite the names of the departed, I will ask for others, we will have a moment of silence, followed by a poem and prayer and then I will then move for adoption of the resolution. Whereas the following members and friends of our society have been removed from the roles by death in the past year and whereas their loss is keenly felt by their friends who remain, therefore the society expresses its appreciation of their lives and services and its sympathy to their families and that by our action in doing so, be published in the Milking Shorthorn Journal.

2015 – 2016 Dublin, Ohio Please stand in silent reverence while I recite the names of our departed friends: Phyllis Jones, Washington, Iowa; Sam Yoder, Shoemakerville, Pennsylvania; Janice Larson, Alfona, Illinois; Judy Ruwe, Carol Stream, Illinois; David Blough, Bristol, Indiana; John Bonavita Sr.,Jo Ann Dairy, Montrose, Pennsylvania; Lori Bonavita, Montrose, Pennsylvania; Chris Bonavita, Montrose, Pennsylvania; Elizabeth Vaadi, Adams, New York; Nancy Wickland, West Chesterfield, Massachusetts and Roger Bacon, Brookfield, Massachusetts A moment of silence and reverence: The heart is a house of many rooms Where things are stored away The treasures of long remembered years The pearls of yesterday, but There is a corner of the heart That’s a secret place to be Where we cherish among all other things Our loved ones memories

Helpful Tips from the Office:

If you have ever done flush work, or plan to do flush work, please read the following most often ignored embryo transfer protocols. Processing of Flush Information: • Flush information should be sent to the AMSS office as soon as possible after a flush to avoid loss of paperwork. • Transfer Applications require both the full name and registration number of the donor dam. (This also applies to registrations) • Transfer fee should be paid by the seller/sale manager

8

• Embryos sold are required to be transferred, regardless of the implantation outcome. • All eggs in a single flush to a single buyer at a single sale date are covered under one transfer fee. • All donor dams must be DNA tested before flush work or resulting offspring registrations will be processed. • If a cow is sold while carrying an embryo, both the cow and embryo must be transferred and will be charged for both transfers accordingly.

Because We cannot bring the old days back Their smile we cannot see We can only treasure the memories Of days that used to be So, the tears in our eyes, yes, we can wipe away But, the ache in our hearts that, that will always stay.   A word of prayer: Our father We thank you for these wonderful lives You brought our way Blanket them with your love As we cherish our memories Yesterday, today, and tomorrow And all God’s children said … Amen Mr. President, I move for adoption.

Embryos for Export: Must be transferred and accompanied by a copy of the embryo identification sheet. For an export order, the application for embryo export (D form) may be used in place of an individual transfer application. 33rd Annual Citizen of the Year Award

Nominated by both the Bodey family and their daughters, Gordon and Beverly Withers of Honey Creek Farms, Petersburg, Ohio are the recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award. As a third generation Milking Shorthorn breeder, Gordon grew up with the breed that he believes is perfect for the family farm. Committed to the betterment of the Milking Shorthorn breed, his life has focused on genetics and good breeding practices, maintaining a disease-free herd and high quality milk production. Throughout his life, he has served as an ambassador for the breed, sharing knowledge, helping others get their start in dairy farming with registered animals and extolling the virtues of the Milking Shorthorn to everyone who would listen. Under his management, Honey Creek Farms has maintained an internationally recognized, highly decorated herd since the 1960s. They will celebrate showing 100 years this year at the Canfield County Fair. Over 50% of the herd has routinely been classified Excellent or Very Good. He has been awarded the Progressive Breeder Award from AMSS nine times and many individual cattle from the herd have received recognition for outstanding dairy production. Gordon has served as a state director and consignor of sales and is a lifetime member of the Ohio Purebred Dairy Cattle Association and a member of the Mahoning County Farm Bureau and DHI. “What sets Gordon and Beverly apart is that they are very committed to their faith and family which includes their Milking Shorthorn Family,” writes Mike Bodey.

30th Annual Harry Clampitt Young Breeder Award

Emily and Jason Monnat, Wild Springs Farm of Canton, New York is this year's winner. Emily has been involved with Milking Shorthorns all her life. Nominators Mike and Karen Bodey and Elaine and Clay Halterman wrote, “She does it all! Milk, tractor work, breeding, showing and fitting her animals and more.” Nominator Ellie Fleming wrote, “She has been involved with Milking Shorthorns since she was a young child, working with her family’s herd in Ohio, Spring Meadows.” Nominator Kyle Preisinger wrote, “My nomination for the Harry Clampitt Young Breeder Award has learned that hard work, honesty and respect for others pays off with pride in what has been achieved and in a good night’s sleep at the end of a long, hard day…..She owned her first calf by the age of five and her love of the Red, White and Roan has continued to grow since then. Working alongside family she learned that the cows come first and it was their responsibility to promote and breed the best Milking Shorthorns possible." This past September, Emily and Jason moved where they are milking about 60 cows on their own. Prior to that Emily was a herd woman for a 300-plus herd. They also fit cattle for sales and classifications. She has been active in all areas of the Society as a junior member, National Queen, committee member and President of the New York Milking Shorthorn Society. They participate in breed programs and have helped work and consign to sales. She actively promotes younger members and helps them have the opportunity to own and show Milking Shorthorns. They have been instrumental in developing cattle with partners under these prefixes: Spring Meadows, Wild Springs, SWAG, Wildholm and their show string and fitting group: Skeleton Crew.

20th Annual Dual Purpose Breeder of the Year Award

The late Mary Bell Cooksley of Haumont Shorthorns in Weissert, Nebreska, is the recipient of the Dual Purpose Breeder of the Year Award. Doyle Hendrickson writes, “She was a very gracious lady that took over the ranch operation when her father Frank Haumont’s health failed. The facts that I remember about the Haumonts are all good. You can easily tell the native Haumont breeding.” Mary Bell served multiple terms as the Nebraska state director and was a life-long activist in promoting the dual-purpose and native Shorthorn breed. She assumed the helm of Haumont Shorthorns in February of 1973. Until her unexpected death in October of 2011, she was a tireless proponent of the pure dual purpose Shorthorn breed. “She was well-informed and sought out for her knowledge. Not all agreed with her, but none 'bested' her,” wrote nominator Kevin Cooksley.

President's Report Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great convention in Ohio this year. I am Jessica Crawley, your Junior Society president. We had a very productive meeting with the two major points focusing on election of new officers and the discussion of the new Western National show. Hannah Rhoades was reelected for vice president, Sarah Rhoades is the newly elected secretary, and Jaydyn Isiminger is the new reporter. Nicholas Achen will continue to be treasurer through convention next year. During our meeting we decided to make the new Western National show a national Junior show as well. We are hoping that this will increase our junior members by having a national show closer and more convenient for kids out in that area. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them via phone or email. All of the officer contact information is on the AMSS website under Juniors. Please feel free to contact any of us about anything junior or cow related! ~ Jessica Crawley

S

hare the Luck of Dublin, Ohio, was the theme of the National Milking Shorthorn Convention June 15-18 in the Buckeye State. One of the highlights was the National Milking Shorthorn Junior Heifer Show on Thursday, June 16 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Judge Sherry Smith of Glenford, Ohio worked with approximately 40 youth who competed in showmanship and heifer classes. Taking top honors in a very competitive senior showmanship class was Hannah Rhoades of Greenville, Ohio. Her main competition was sister Sarah Rhoades and Jaydyn Isiminger of Union City, Pennsylvania and Mena Schmitt of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Winning the Intermediate division was Korey Oechsle of Van Wert, Ohio, with stiff competition from Jack Achen of Warner, South Dakota, in second and Carrie and Sam Rhoades of Greenville, Ohio, in third and fourth respectively. Showmen 11 years and younger was won by Olivia Kennedy of Cochranton, Pennsylvania. Joe Achen of Warner, South Dakota was second followed by Brett Groebner, Monroe, Wisconsin and Owen Halpin of Buckingham, Illinois in third and fourth. A competitive group of pee wee showmen were praised by Judge Smith for their enthusiasm and skill and in the end she awarded Charlie Weiss of Arcanum, Ohio the top pee wee showman. After spending lots of quality time with each youth in showmanship, Judge Smith took on the task of placing the various heifer classes. At the end of the show, she had a beautiful line up of first and second place animals in the hunt for junior champion. Four were pulled for her top choices as she took the mic and talked about the quality of heifers she

had seen all morning and the excellent presentation by the juniors. “I’ve pulled out the Winter Calf who to me is an extreme heifer,” said Smith. “The Summer Yearling shows a tremendous amount of style and balance and the Winter Yearling is an exceptionally stylish heifer. And my fourth choice for pull is the Fall Yearling who just really stuck out in her class.” “Today the junior champion will be the Summer Yearling with that extreme style and that style and cleanliness is what takes her over the Fall Yearling who will be reserve today,” said Smith. Junior Champion of the show was Heavenly Berry ET, exhibited by Brett Groebner of Monroe, Wisconsin. She is a June 1 Megadeth daughter out of Heavenly Betty EXP who is EX-91 and was Grand Champion at the Northeast National Show in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Brett had a top-notch day taking home the blue ribbon in the Spring, Winter and Fall Calf classes as well. Queen's Corner Hello, my name is Danielle Gregory, I am 16 years old, and this fall I will be starting my junior year at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Illinois. During the summer days I work at the local daycare with the 12-24 months of age children to gain more experience with children, in hopes of one day going into the pediatric field of nursing. During the nights I milk and feed the newborn calves at home on the family farm. In 2003, my father had purchased our family’s first ever Milking Shorthorn from the North Stars family. My passion for the breed begun when a great granddaughter from that beautiful, 94-point cow was born in December of 2012. After years of raising, showing and now milking that 90-point Milking Shorthorn, I grew an unbreakable bond with her, and, of course, a dream. That dream came true on June 17 in Dublin, Ohio, where I was crowned the 2016-2017 National Milking Shorthorn Queen at the National Convention. The Ohio breeders did an amazing job hosting this year's convention and planning all the junior events. Thanks to them I have created new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. I look forward to meeting fellow breeders that share the same passion as I do and gaining more knowledge about the breed. If you have any questions or would like me to attend any special events, please feel to contact me at diamondjay28@gmail.com

Meet the Jr. Advisors Meet the newest American Milking Shorthorn Junior advisors, Cindy and Roxann Achen. Cindy and her brother Jeff started Cherrywood Farms in 1976. Cindy was involved with the breed through showing, receiving awards and scholarships, and of course every girl's dream of representing the breed as Queen in 1983. Cindy and Jeff both stepped back from the breed to start a family. Now both families are very involved with Milking Shorthorns and their children are not far behind! Today Cindy and her family own 25 Registered Milking Shorthorn cows and continue to be involved within the breed. Roxann has served on the AMSJS board in past years and thought serving as a co-advisor for the juniors would be a great way to stay involved. Her dream of becoming Queen came true in 2012 - you could say this family is royalty! Their family enjoys spending time together going to shows, working on the farm, listening to Nickleback, and of course being members of the Red, White and Roan breed!

Junior Spotlight

Danielle Gregory is a sixteen-year-old girl from Harvard, Illinois that has shown the Milking Shorthorn breed since the age of sixwith gaining many experiences while showing, breeding, and raising the breed. Danielle is currently a junior at Marian Central Catholic in Woodstock, Illinois. She is the youngest on the farm and she is the only girl in her family, having an older brother (Colton Gregory) who is 20. Danielle was introduced to the Milking Shorthorn breed by her father when he purchased their first Shorthorn “Stars” from North Stars Farm in 2003. Stars eventually scored EX-94. Mikes-Dar farm is owned by Danielle and her family. They milk around 65 head with a variety of breeds including Milking Shorthorns, Holsteins, Red & White Holsteins and two Jerseys. Danielle’s responsibilities on her farm include milking cows at night with her grandfather. She takes care of newborn calves, which includes feeding, bedding and helping to treat them when they are sick. Outside of working on her farm, Danielle is on the junior dairy bowl team for her coun-

ty. During the summer months she also works with one-to two-year-olds at a local daycare. The most memorable experience Danielle had with her Milking Shorthorns happened in December of 2012. She witnessed their family's first-ever Milking Shorthorn daughter calve. Ever since that moment she has developed a strong connection with that animal. After years of work, breeding, milking and showing, this past month she had her first scored Excellent. In June at the 2016 National Milking Shorthorn Convention in Dublin, Ohio she was crown the 2016-2017 National Milking Shorthorn queen. She states that Milking Shorthorns are special to her because she loves the dual purpose of the breed. Danielle loves talking to the breeders and to other people that may not be as familiar as she is. She looks forward to meeting new people and creating endless memories as she wears the crown and sash representing the Milking Shorthorn breed. Colton Gregory enjoys showcasing his family’s cows at county, state and national shows and working with the breed's genetics

Rule Changed on Lease Leadsperson Animals It was voted by junior members in Ohio that the lessee must be at the halter in all cases, no alternate leadsperson is allowed. to improve his herd. Colton is 20 years old and from Harvard, Illinois. He is currently continuing his education as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville majoring in Animal Science. At the college he is a part of the Pioneer Dairy Club and on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s dairy judging team. Colton’s responsibilities on Mikes-Dar farm include mixing feed and feeding all the animals and also helping with field work. His experiences with the Milking Shorthorn breed include selling bulls and producing excellent cows. Milking Shorthorns are special to Colton because of the size of the Association. With it being smaller, you can talk to more achieving breeders, and it's easier to get to know a lot of people. The most memorable moment Colton has had is when he bought his very own Milking Shorthorn (Calypso). He is starting with her to breed his own genetics using that cow as his base. Calypso now has VG and EX daughters and granddaughters.

Are Your Milk Production Records Getting to AMSS? By Ellie Fleming, Milk Production Committee Chair

Are your cows on test, but you’ve noticed that records are missing from pedigrees, qualifying cows are not getting listed in the Honor Roll in the Journal, or your cows never get any of the production awards at the annual banquet? Some of our members have been working closely with National DHIA and Data Records Processing Centers (DRPCs) this past year to figure out what the problem is, and they found out there are many! And the problems are not coming from just one place or organization. Here is a list of things you can do to make sure you are doing everything right on your end of the process: • Enroll in either the Express program or Milk Production Recording (both applications came in your membership packet or can be found online) • It is very important that you confirm you have the correct DHI Herd Code and DRPC (AgriTech Analytics in CA, DRMS in North Carolina, DHI-Provo in Utah, or AgSource in WI) listed on your application. • Check with your DHI testing supervisor that the Type of Test listed on your DHI sheet says DHIR. • Check that breed for each cow is listed Milking Shorthorn (MS) on the test sheet. • Look to see that the cow has the correct Dam ID and Sire ID listed on the test sheets with the correct breed code. • Make sure all cows, along with their Sire and Dam, are listed with their correct AMSS registration number, name and country code, otherwise the records will not get attached to the cow’s pedigree at the AMSS office. • Check that birthdates and calving dates are correct. Making sure all of this info is correct and that you get registered for programs with the office will go a long way in fixing some of the issues we have experienced with sending production records to the AMSS office. Once you have followed all the steps above, and if you are still having problems, please check in with the office so that we can look into what else might be the problem. Perseverance and follow up will go a long way in getting your animals and records into the AMSS performance programs.

REMINDER: When picturing your cows, have the photographers send photos directly to Purebred Publishing to avoid future charges or challenges with compression! (Photos forwarded from emails & phones do not transfer in hi-resolution sometimes.)

Helpful cont. from pg. 8 find ID # which must be entered on registration screen. • When registering an ET animal online, in the multiple birth drop-down box, select Embryo Transplant. This will automatically place ET at the end of the animal’s name. (DO NOT manually type ET at the end of the animal’s name) • An animal cannot be an ET animal without an Embryo ID number being entered during the registration of an animal. Embryo Fees Embryo Flush - $10 per flush Embryo Transfer (per flush to same new owner) = $15

We are excited and honored to have the chance to develop Dee Dee. She is truly what we are striving for in our breeding program, a cow that looks the part and backs that with exceptional production.

We have Ironman-P calves on the ground and pregnancies by St Clare and Anecdote-P. Inquires are always welcome.

American Milking Shorthorn Society DNA/Genotype Policy In an effort to maintain the most accurate and useful genetic information on Milking Shorthorn cattle, the AMSS has enacted the following DNA Testing Policies, effective July 1, 2016 . 1. All matters of identification and parentage will be accepted as official as determined by the designated laboratory. a. Genotype and DNA results must meet ISAG standards of parentage affirmation for animals typed through a laboratory retained by AMSS. b. As of January 1, 2011 AMSS, working in conjunction with the Holstein Association, USA; the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association of the USA; the American Guernsey Association and the U.S. Ayrshire Breeders Association, has retained the service of Maxxam Laboratories, Guelph, Ontario, Canada for all DNA typing and parentage issues. 2. Testing can be initiated by a. Breeder Inquiry: Any breeder/owner can request a test kit from AMSS for testing of animals in their herd. These results will be kept on file with the AMSS. All expenses to be paid by the breeder/owner. b. Random: Every 100th female registered with AMSS will be genotyped or DNA typed. If the sire and/or dam have not been genotyped or DNA typed they will be tested as well. All expenses to be paid by AMSS. c. Bulls: All bulls must be genotyped or DNA typed before a registration paper is returned to the breeder/owner. The owner of the bull will be responsible for all expenses for meeting these requirements. i. If the bull is to be used for Artificial Insemination any living parent must have genotyping or DNA testing completed. ii. There is no requirement, at this time, that the parents be genotyped or DNA typed if the bull is used for natural service. d. Executive Secretary: Any animal sold, or exhibited, as registered by the American Milking Shorthorn Society can be genotyped or DNA typed at the discretion of the Executive Secretary. All expenses to be paid by AMSS. e. Breeder Protest: If the Executive Secretary is requested, by a party other than the owner, to test an animal for any reason, the person requesting the examination must first post a $100 bond with the Executive Secretary. All expenses to be paid by AMSS. i. If the parental identification of the animal tested does not match registration records the bond is returned to the person requesting the test. ii. If the parental identification of the animal tested matches registration records the bond is forfeited and deposited in the general fund of the AMSS. f. Embryo Transfers: i. All cows used as embryo donors must be genotyped or DNA typed before the offspring can be registered. The owner of the cow will be responsible for all expenses for meeting this requirement. ii. One in every 25 female ET calves registered with AMSS will be genotyped or DNA typed. All expenses to be paid by AMSS. g. National Show Champions: Animals winning one of the following titles at an AMSS National Show must be genotyped or DNA typed to maintain their title. This includes both Junior and Open divisions. All expenses to be paid by AMSS. i. Junior Champion ii. Reserve Junior Champion iii. Intermediate Champion iv. Reserve Intermediate Champion v. Senior Champion vi. Reserve Senior Champion 3.
