CHAPTER 1

What is SEO

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is also called as organic search engine optimization or organic SEO.

SEO or search engine optimization means and involves specialized and unique methods and techniques which we do to help improve the visibility of a website on search engines.

We all have searched for something on major search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and others. We go to a search engine, we find a search bar and type in a query. What we see after that is a list of results on the page.

These results are websites or web pages and the ones that we see first or are placed higher on that page are actually ranked at that place by those search engines.

What we do in SEO is basically target certain keywords which are important for a website, optimize the pages and content of the website for the same keywords and then make those pages rank higher on search engine pages, again for the same keywords. The objective is to increase visibility of our website for those keywords and related queries to get organic clicks and visitors from search engines to our website and its pages.

CHAPTER 2

Through these Google accounts you can monitor all the activities and aspects the SEO of any website, view progress of your SEO and also keep track of your compliance with Google guidelines, recommendations and thereby avoid penalized by Google. You can also keep a check on any manual action taken by Google against your site through these accounts.

All you need to do is open two Google accounts, and these can be created using your gmail ID. These two accounts are Google Search Console or GSC and Google Analytics (GA). Google Search Console was known as Google Webmaster Tools or GWT till 2018.

CHAPTER 3 What is Technical SEO

Technical SEO means optimizing various technical aspects of a website to improve its functioning, accessibility by search engines, and user experience. We do technical SEO optimization to ensure better & smoother crawling and therefore better indexing which helps a website in improving its organic rankings.

Technical SEO is also often called on site SEO as it covers and improves the functionality of the entire website. Many of the technical SEO techniques are often seen and covered as on page techniques.

These are few important technical SEO tips and techniques you should follow:

Submit Sitemap

To start your SEO the first step is to tell Google that you have a site and invite it read it. For this you need to submit your website to Google and other major search engines.

This needs you to manually submit your website to Google for indexing. This is done by creating and submitting a sitemap of your websites.

This is an XML sitemap which you submit to Google. This sitemap is written in plain text with no linking or hypertext. This also lists all your pages but as a simple plain list and is submitted to search engines to actually tell them to index all your listed pages.

To find a sitemap of your site or any other site, just add “/sitemap.xml t the end of the URL i.e. www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml

This step is required and suggested for every new website.

Submitting an XML sitemap is highly recommended to get a website indexed and make it searchable. Google and other search engines highly recommend maintaining and submitting sitemaps for websites, it is not a mandatory thing, in the sense that if you do not submit a sitemap you will not face any action from search engines. The only thing that may happen is all of some of your pages may not be indexed, and hence will not be searchable.

Submit robots file to Google

This is the second step you need to do before you start SEO. You need to submit a robots file to Google. A Robots file tells search engines which all pages it can crawl. It tells Google and other search engines that they are welcome to visit and crawl your website.

You can also tell the spiders and bots of all search engines if you do not want them to crawl your site or certain pages in it.

The pages crawled by a search engine will get indexed in database.

Improve website speed

Website loading speed is one of the critical aspect for SEO. A slow loading speed can harm a website in more than one ways. It’s search engine rankings can suffer because of high loading time. Further, even if it ranks higher, visitors will go away if a website takes too much time in opening. If there are high instances of visitors closing the website soon after clicking on it from search results, this gives a very wrong impression to Google and other search engines. These search engines can then devalue that website in its rankings due to this.

There are six header tags are H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6. Out of these H1 is the most important one and is the main heading of your page and its content. Others are used as sub-headings and sub-subheadings as you keep going down.
