ELEVATE PVAMU RESEARCH ENTERPRISE TO BECOME AN EMERGING RESEARCH UNIVERSITY

Undergraduate students at PVAMU typically have limited opportunities to experience the joy of discovery that research brings. However, the Office of Research Advancement Undergraduate Research (ORA-UG) seeks to change that by providing faculty/staff mentors with funds to engage students in research experiences. During the last year, ORA-UG transitioned its operation to a virtual platform while continuing to expose students to the wonder of research through the Faculty-Research & Innovation for Scholarly Excellence (Faculty-RISE) program—one of Vice President Magesh Rajan's research initiatives. The ORA-UG worked cooperatively with the Undergraduate Research Council to promote and provide ongoing opportunities for the faculty/staff-mentored undergraduate research. Listed below are some of the accomplishments from ORA-UG:

 33 Undergraduate Research Council promote and boost faculty and students interests in UGR programs in various colleges  Successful Research and Innovation's Week on UG Conference, Inaugural International Symposium of Undergraduate Research Excellence (ISURE), and Graduate Research Conference. (60 PVAMU UGs | 31 Graduates | 5 student participants from Ghana, Mexico, Nigeria, and Uganda universities presented their research outcomes)  47 UG research reports for publications  Engaged and monitored a total of 52 undergraduates in the Summer Faculty RISE program  Ten successful seminars and workshops of Council members orientation/funding opportunities, Faculty-Students Collaborative Research Networks and Funding Opportunities, UGR Council Members and Faculty RISE Awardees Networking, Graduate Research Assistants Mentoring Undergraduate Research, Faculty RISE Orientation/Onboarding, and kick-off luncheon  Five faculty teams wrote and submitted proposals to external agencies to engage 83 undergraduates over the three-year project life  Awarded 48 Faculty RISE internal funding to faculty/staff  Recruited 68 UG researchers for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022
