RELEASING THIS MONTH
A sneak-peek into the big release of the month!
Bharat joins The Great Russian Circus in 1964 and earns a reputation for being a playboy. The discovery of oil in the Gulf region in the mid-1970s leads to a subsequent Indian migration to the territory. Here, Bharat begins a romantic relationship with his chief engineer Kumud Raina. He volunteers for the Indian Navy and later holds the family business together during the period leading to economic liberalisation in the 1990s, all the while keeping his promise to his father.
Trivia This is the third collaboration of Salman Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar after Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), both of which were blockbusters.
Behind the Scenes Director Ali Abbas Zafar has stated that making Bharat was like making seven different films. He spent oneand-a-half years along with his production designer and stylists to study the different eras before kickstarting the shoot. He based his depiction of the Partition on Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi.

The Partition sequences were shot in the freezing cold over 10 days in Punjab. They recreated a station near Lahore, replete with a real steam engine, which was brought to the location. It happens to be one of only five functioning steam engines in the country. The art department worked on it for four days to make it match those from the Northern Frontier Railways of 1947.

Bharat
Salman Khan sports prosthetics for the first time in his career. He will be seen in four to five different looks in the film through 60 years. The crucial part will focus on his late 20s, in which he looks lean and youthful.
A Journey of a Man and a Nation together!
Bharat is based on the South Korean melodrama Ode to My Father (2014), which traces the history of South Korea parallel to a man’s life, spanning from the 1950s to the 2010s. This is Salman Khan’s most ambitious and expensive production.
The Plot During the Partition of India in 1947, Bharat’s father stays back in Pakistan and makes his eight-year-old son promise to lead the household and keep the family together, no matter what. Bharat’s life over a period of 60 years, from 18 to 70 years of age, traces India’s post-independence history as well as his determination to keep his word to his father. PVR MOVIES FIRST

MOVIE OF THE MONTH
his is a movie that is unlike other X-Men movies. It’s a movie where shocking, intense, dramatic things happen. People don’t just fall off buildings and dust themselves off and walk away. There’s a reality and a consequence to this movie. – Simon Kinberg, Director
PAGE 7
Like other comic book movies Superman III (1983), SpiderMan 3 (2004) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), the film is about a superhero succumbing to his or her dark side and turning evil. This is the 2nd X-Men movie in which Jean Grey succumbs to her dark side and transforms into Dark Phoenix.
The Stakes
Phoenix will feature some of the series’ biggest set pieces to date, including the X-Men’s first trip to outer space. It’s also the most sinister, and somber chapter in the saga and includes a massive twist halfway through that will irrevocably change the course of the franchise. “This is probably the most emotional X-Men we’ve done and the most pathos-driven,” McAvoy says. “There’s a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering.” The movie becomes a fight for Jean’s soul as Phoenix threatens to overtake her mind and divide the X-Men, particularly Jean and her mentor, Charles. “It’s about the butterfly effect of this thing happening,” says Turner, who studied schizophrenia and multiple personality disorders to prepare. “What happens when the person you love the most falls into darkness?”
The Cast
Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters reprise their roles from previous X-Men movies. Jessica Chastain joins the series as a mysterious shapeshifter.
The Shoot
There’s a lot more handheld camerawork and a lot more close-ups and a lot more of a feeling of intimacy, and with that comes a certain level of intensity because you feel the characters’ emotions and anger more than you would in big wide shots.
don’t think this movie is a comedy by any means, nor do I think it’s a musical by any means; that’s what I’m really excited about in this film, that there’s a good balance of everything and Guy Ritchie does an incredible job at that.
Trivia 01
Hans Zimmer decided to retire from composing superhero movies after having worked on scores for Batman,
– Mena Massoud, Lead Actor
Superman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, but Simon Kinberg convinced him to work on this film.
“One of the things I wanted to do with it is to get the movie outside and make it feel like you’re on location and put it in real world environments as much as its also in otherworldly environments. But I wanted it to feel like it could take place in your neighbourhood,” says Kinberg. “That particular neighborhood we built from the ground up. The entire street was a build on the studio up in Montreal, and it was a massive build. All those houses and the bridge you see in the distance, all of that was built really not for the sake of secrecy, but obviously it helped with that. But more because there’s a lot of action that takes place there. Houses get blown up, and you couldn’t obviously do that in a real environment.”
The Director
Simon David Kinberg (born August 2, 1973) is a Britishborn American screenwriter, film film and television
02
This will be the first X-Men film to not feature or reference either Logan/ Wolverine or the actor that portrays him, Hugh Jackman. This is because Jackman retired from the role, which he portrayed since X-Men (2000).
03
This is the fourth movie that James McAvoy had to shave his head for, the first three being X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Split (2017), and Glass (2019).

It’s rumored that Dark Phoenix will be the final installment of the X-Men film franchise and that the X-Men film franchise will be rebooted.

ARJAN BAJWA
GUEST INTERVIEW
Actor, Kabir Singh
The Hindi remake of the 2017 Telugu cult blockbuster Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh is among the year’s most awaited movies. Arjan Bajwa, who plays a key role in the film, speaks about his character in it. Give us three great reasons to watch Kabir Singh It’s an intense love story, and we haven’t had that on screen for a very long time. Secondly, although the lead character is shown to be violent, unreasonable and rebellious, the final message of the film is positive. It is a good reminder to today’s youth that there is no romance or reward in harming yourself. Stop the downhill slide and take control of yourself. The third reason is the powerful characterisation—you’ll relate to the key characters in the film. What’s your role in the film I play Shahid Kapoor’s elder brother. My character, Karan, is sorted and balanced, with a square head above his shoulders. He’s there for his brother through thick and PVR MOVIES FIRST
thin, trying to reason with him and control his aggression. Unlike in the original film, my character has more of a say in his sibling’s life. That’s because we have been portrayed as a typical Punjabi family, to whom some amount of assertiveness comes naturally. What attracted you to this character Though I had refused the role initially, the director, Sandeep Reddy, was convinced I would do justice to it. I have done some 10 Telugu films and he had seen my work in them. He felt I would be the perfect foil to Shahid’s untamed character and that we were well matched in terms of physicality as well. Though I watched Arjun Reddy, I felt I could give my own spin to the role, which I have done. How was your experience working with Shahid and Kiara? I’ve known them for many years, but working on this intense, angsty film gave us all a chance to forge a strong bond. PAGE 22

Nick has been nominated for awards such as British Academy Award, and Critics Choice Award. In 2010, Hoult was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award, voted on by the British public. Other nominations include a Walkers Home Grown Talent Award.
His middle name “Caradoc” means “the beloved one” in Welsh. He is greatly inspired by Muhammad Ali and sleeps under a poster of the champ.
Holt was included in Forbes magazine’s 2012 list of ‘30 under 30’.
Praise for Hoult
“Nick takes his job very, very seriously. I guess that comes from being a child actor, where you have to be disciplined from such an early age.”- Tom Ford, designer & screenwriter. “While Nick still looks quite young and naïve, there’s a wolfishness to him. These qualities make him very interesting to directors. The variety of roles he’s doing will be good for him in the long-run – he’ll keep shapeshifting, and keep making choices that are a bit different and riskier.” - Owen Harris, director

Decoding Danny Boyle Born and brought up in a small town in England, Danny Boyle worked his way into directing via theater, making his name at the celebrated Royal Court. After learning his craft on a series of TV shows for the BBC in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Boyle broke into films with Shallow Grave (1994) and Trainspotting (1996), two cult hits that established him as a talent to watch. He made his first splash in Hollywood with The Beach(2000). Then came Slumdog Millionaire, for which he won an Academy award, followed by a movie about a solitary hiker trapped in a canyon in Southeast Utah, 127 Hours (2010). There are few filmmakers who can claim to have forayed into such a wide range of genres as Danny Boyle. The director infuses pop culture into his work, creating distinctive, visually striking films which stick with you long after viewing. Next time you watch a Danny Boyle film, notice these signature elements: • His films are all quick paced and fast edited. This helps to make to create an exciting and adventurous feel, even when the theme is depressing or pessimistic. • Boyle gives you an unexpected perspective through tilted shots, close ups, and the use of handi-cam. He likes to position the camera looking up or down at his characters, rarely at eye level. Sometimes, he puts cameras in impossible places, like in the toilet in Trainspotting or inside a snowtube in 127 Hours. • Most of his films open mid-action, with scenes edited into a montage. This technique conveys the passage of time or covers a lot of ground in narration quickly. The opening of Trainspotting is a great example of all these type of shots together.

I really like to do something different each time. I find that very stimulating. If I have some hesitancy about how in hell am I going to do something, that makes me vulnerable and I think more interesting in my approach to it. I clear the crew when the actors arrive, so they have total control of the set. Sometimes I might bring the cameraman in or the script supervisor or somebody like that if necessary. But basically it’s theirs. The best things tend to happen on shooting day. The energy of the day itself, knowing this is your one chance at it, makes everybody different anyway. You should be working at your absolute maximum, all the time. Whether you’re credited with stuff in the end doesn’t really matter. Focus on pushing yourself as much as you can. PAGE 27
