Message From the Director Greetings! As the weather cools, Prince William County Parks, Recreation, & Tourism shifts from the busyness of summer camps, outdoor pools, and programs to fall schedules, offering a wide array of both indoor and outdoor recreation programs, services, and facilities for all ages. There is a lot to do in every corner of the county, including several programs honoring the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Bristoe Station, and new programs and events such as Harvest Day at Rippon Lodge, Early Bookworms Story Time at the Pat White Center, and Family Gingerbread House Building Contest at Veterans Park. You’re sure to find programs that meet your interest and ability! Prince William County’s nationally accredited Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department manages over 350-square-miles of parks, trails, recreation facilities, and historic sites with more on the way as we work to ensure you have access just a short walk, ride, or drive from your neighborhood. Our newest additions are the 18-hole disc golf course at Forest Greens Golf Club at 4500 Poa Annua Lane, Triangle and Rollins Ford Park at the corner of Rollins Ford Road & Vint Hill Road, Gainesville, featuring a nature-themed playground, picnic pavilions, walking trails, wildflower meadows, athletic fields, a dog park, and more. No community is complete without access to programs that promote health and wellbeing, social connections, and protect the environment – and Prince William County is committed to being a national leader in the provision of these essential services. Some new wellness programs include: Keep Moving And Stay Active, Dealing With Grief, and Zumba For Breast Cancer Awareness. We are pleased to share that we’re reinvesting in our Park System to ensure we’re maintaining your favorite places and spaces such as paving, court resurfacing, and accessibility projects in Veterans Memorial Park, Andrew Leitch Park, Marumsco Acres Lake Park, Forest Greens, and at Rippon Lodge. Improvements at Cloverdale Park are wrapping up – please watch for a ribbon cutting celebration this fall. We’re also reimagining existing parks and facilities where you’ve said we need a little more than a face-lift. Stay tuned for future opportunities to participate in master planning for park properties across the county. Plans are in place for reimagined spaces in Ellis Barron Neighborhood Park and we’ll be working with you to reimagine Joseph Reading Park very soon. You’ve been clear about your interest in trails in Prince William County. We’re excited to open a newly improved segment of the Occoquan Greenway, including a new trail bridge. And, we’re working closely with the Trails and Blueways Council to define segments of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail through Prince William County. This National Park Service-designated trail includes the Neabsco Boardwalk completed in 2019. The design and development of new segments through Featherstone National Wildlife Preserve and across Powell’s Creek in Leesylvania State Park are in process. I am grateful you chose Prince William County for your recreation needs and wish you and your family a vibrant fall season. Our passionate staff is committed to ensuring you have an exceptional experience. Please let us know how we’re doing and don’t hesitate to ask for assistance. May you strive to be your best self with Prince William County Parks, Recreation & Tourism as your guide! Seth
