A BRENTSVILLE BICENTENNIAL COURT DAY CELEBRATION Ages 2+ As the 4th seat of Prince William County from 18221893, Brentsville was a bustling community full of business, agriculture, trades, and more. Every month during court days hundreds and even thousands would come to the courthouse to socialize, conduct business, purchase supplies, be entertained and more. For the 200th Anniversary of Brentsville Courthouse, join us for a historic Court Day where you can experience what Brentsville was like during its days as the courthouse of Prince William County. BEN LOMOND HISTORIC SITE

COOKING A TRADITIONAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY MEAL Ages 10+ Many 19th century Prince William County citizens traced their roots to Ireland. The meals they prepared reflected their Irish ancestry. SHEEP SHEARING AT BEN LOMOND All Ages The Pringle family farmed Ben Lomond from 1855 to the end of the Civil War. Their farm included a large herd of Merino Sheep. Visitors will learn how farmers sheared wool in the 19th century and what farmers did with the wool. Please dress for the weather.

TALES OF HOME: HISTORIC BLACK FOODWAYS AND AMERICAN CULTURE Ages 10+ Many Southern dishes have their roots in west and central African culture that enslaved workers brought to America. Participate in cooking demonstrations, sewing, and other household activities that women had to complete daily without the benefits of electricity or running water. CALLIGRAPHY CLASS IN THE BRENTSVILLE SCHOOLHOUSE Ages 13+ When the Brentsville Schoolhouse was in use between 1929 and 1944, one of the skills taught to students was penmanship. Have you ever wanted to improve your handwriting skills or be able to make your own invitations? Join historic preservation staff at the historic schoolhouse for a beginner’s introduction to the art of calligraphy! During this 2-hour workshop you will learn about the historic importance of writing forms, a few basic traditional calligraphy styles, have the chance to try out your own new calligraphy skills, and learn some history along the way. Debates took place within the courthouse, troops mustered in for service, and the town suffered heavily at the hands of both armies over the years. Join us for a special tour of Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre to learn more about what happened at Brentsville during the Civil War. SCRAMBLED EGG HUNTS AT BRENTSVILLE COURTHOUSE All Ages Enjoy a unique spin on an egg hunt this year at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre. Peter Rabbit created trouble again at Brentsville by taking all the candy and toys in our eggs and replacing them with puzzle pieces. He won’t give back the goods unless we solve the puzzle! Can you find the eggs he hid to get all the pieces and solve the puzzle? Egg hunt areas are divided by family groups of six or less, with a time limit of 30 minutes for each egg hunt. Once your puzzle is completed, turn it in to receive a gift basket for the family to take home filled with treats, prizes, and more. STRUGGLE AND TRIUMPH: AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AT BRENTSVILLE Ages 6+ Stop by Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre for a day of special tours focused on the stories of the county’s African American residents from 1822 to 1893. Brentsville was the site of tragedy and joy for the county’s African American community. Hear some of the stories from the area about the enslaved people in central Prince William County, free blacks, African American Civil War veterans, the joy of emancipation, lingering legacy of Reconstruction, and the beginning of the Jim Crow era. RIPPON LODGE EASTER EGG TRAIL The Easter Bunny has created a fun activity trail at Rippon Lodge. Look for hidden objects, do physical tasks, tell a joke, and more as you walk to receive your eggs. SCHOOL OF A SOLDIER AT RIPPON LODGE Ages 1+ Join Rippon Lodge for the Revolutionary War School of the Soldier program. See Continental and British troops gather, learn, and practice marching, firing, and commands of the drum.
