BATHROOM TRENDS The in colour for interior design this year is grey and bathrooms are no exception. While bathroom suites are still in white, the tiles and general décor are grey; this creates a classy opulent look. As the average bathroom tends to be one of the smaller rooms in the house, high quality tiles and accessories can be employed to enhance the luxury feel.
A
part from the kitchen, the bathroom is probably the hardest-working room in your home. It’s a frequently used space that has to stand up to the wear
and tear of daily traffic and the dampness caused by hot baths and showers. These factors mean that choosing the right bathroom has to be an investment that will not only add value to your home but will also stand the test of time. But where do you start?

August at The National Botanical Garden of Wales
I
August is traditionally the holiday period, often our gardens are forgotten as we head for the beaches. However at the National Botanic Garden of Wales the ornamental borders are blooming fantastically and there are still lots of jobs to keep everyone busy in their own garden this month.

At the Garden Salvias, Heleniums and Inulas are looking particularly spectacular this month as are the exotics such as the Musa, Canna and Hedychium. At home you could be sowing hardy annual flowers such as Nigella, Lunaria and Calendula direct in the ground at the end of

coming from the garden it’s easy to forget about the bleak winter months but now is the time to be sowing greens such as chard, rocket, cabbage and parsley to fill gaps that will appear after harvesting, these hardy vegetables help to keep you strong and healthy through winter. Defibrillator Donated by Hospital A community fitness club in the village of Llantwit Fardre, near Pontypridd, has benefitted from the donation of a defibrillator by Nuffield Health Cardiff & Vale Hospitals.
fundraising was only gradual. It was at this point that Nuffield Health stepped in and donated a surplus defibrillator to Crown Fitness, since one of their members is a senior nurse at the Nuffield Health Cardiff Bay Hospital.
Crown Fitness is a community fitness club in the heart of Llantwit Fardre that has been running for 14 years. For the past six months the club had been trying to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator to be used on the community site. This site includes the fitness club, a community centre and a scouts hall. The site caters for a range of activities including two nursery schools and a senior citizen club.
Carol Adey, Endoscopy Lead Nurse at Cardiff Bay, commented, “We decided to donate an unused defib to the gym, as both my husband and myself are gym members and have been involved in fundraising for a defib for a while now, so this will speed up access to the defib.”
The club members felt that having a community defibrillator could save the life of any of the hundreds of people who use the site each day but
Paul Conway, manager at the club said, “We are really grateful to Nuffield Health Cardiff for helping us out with their kind gesture of giving us the defib. The money we have raised to date will pay for a new battery and carry case so we can get the defib ready for any emergencies at the site”. For more information about how straightforward it is to operate an defibrillator, please see: https://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/nation-of-lifesavers/using-defibrillators

These tips from Cancer Research UK will help ensure you enjoy the summer heat: 1. Spend time in the shade if your shadow is shorter than you. During the UK summer, the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm 2. Wear a hat, t-shirt and sunglasses when the sun's strong. A wide-brimmed hat, long-sleeved top or maxi dress will not only help protect your skin but are also the height of summer style! 3. Cancer Research UK recommends you use at least factor 15 sunscreen with a high star rating. Sunscreen rubs off easily if you sweat, swim or change clothes. Eat normally even if you aren't hungry. Fruit and salad are good as they contain a lot of water which will keep you hydrated. Don't let your skin redden or burn. If you're outside for more than 10 minutes, use sunscreen of at least sun protection factor (SPF) 15 with four or five stars. Don't ignore symptoms of dehydration or overheating such as muscle cramps, headaches, dizziness, weakness, or vomiting. Find a cool place to sit, loosen tight clothes, drink plenty of water or fruit juice, and sponge yourself with cool water. Method 1 Put 8 of the eggs in a pan of cold water. Bring to the boil, cook for 5 mins, then quickly lift out of the pan and plunge in a big bowl of cold water to cool. Once cool enough to handle, peel. 2 While the eggs cool, put the oil, onions and garlic in a frying pan. Fry very gently until really soft and just starting to turn golden. Add the spices and fry for a few mins more. Tip into a food processor and whizz to a paste, then add the chickpeas and coriander leaves, and pulse until finely chopped but not pasty. Stir in the wholemeal breadcrumbs, flour and final egg, beaten first with a fork, with a good amount of seasoning. 3 Divide the mixture into 8. Take a portion at a time and flatten between your hands (rub your hands with a little
more oil if it’s sticking to your fingers too much). Roll 1 of your peeled eggs in a little flour, shake to remove the excess, then wrap the falafel mixture around it, moulding it to completely cover the egg and squishing it together at the joins to seal. Repeat to cover all the eggs. Tip the panko or dried breadcrumbs onto a plate and mix in the sesame seeds. Roll each egg in it to coat. Can be made 1 day ahead, loosely covered with cling film and chilled. 4 Get a large, deep saucepan and half-fill it with oil, or use a deep-fat fryer. Heat until a bit of bread browns in about 30 secs. Add a couple of eggs at a time and fry, turning, until really golden and crisp, about 2 mins. Lift onto kitchen paper to drain while you cook the rest of the eggs in batches. Season with a little more salt and eat warm or cold.

presence and clarity than ever before. It’s premium design at its best. Hailed by WhatCar? as “hard to beat”, you’re looking at a motoring icon in the making. But it’s not all grilles and no thrills; longer and wider than its predecessor, the new Superb boasts even more room inside, while being lighter, more frugal and better equipped. Featuring the latest iteration of ŠKODA’s infotainment system, the centre console is packed full of useful tech to make life that bit easier. DAB is standard on all trim levels and SmartLink, which mirrors your smartphone screen, is standard from SE, with Business models boasting satnav, Bluetooth and a 6.5in touchscreen. Pitted against its nearest competitors in a recent WhatCar? test, the Superb proved itself to be head and shoulders above the rest, easily outclassing the Ford Mondeo and Volvo S60 to earn the maximum five stars. As well as being the quickest

The Superb also continues to dominate with boot space. With its rear seats in place it has a huge, square, 625 litres. That’s more than enough to swallow a few golf clubs, two large suitcases or, given its new status as WhatCar? Family Car Of The Year 2015, a couple of pushchairs and more. Smart, accessible, connected and perfect for both business and pleasure, the new ŠKODA Superb now truly lives up to its name. Contract Hire rates start from as little as £187 per month, and with CO2 emissions as low as 105 g/km, 20% lower fuel consumption than it’s predecessor, and a BiK tax rate starting from just 18%, it truly is a phenomenal amount of car for the money. Experience the new generation of saloon for yourself by requesting a demonstration at your local ŠKODA retailer; space will never be the same again. The Superb and the rest of the award winning ŠKODA range are available to view and test drive at White Dove ŠKODAs showroom located on Hadfield Road, Cardiff.

CARDIFF WALK
Start/Finish: This circular walk from Oxwich village goes around the headland via Oxwich Point. There is a steep climb at the end! Public Transport: There are occasional buses from Swansea and Llanelli but it is essential to check timetables before you travel! Parking: There is limited parking in the village and on the lane to the castle but a huge car park close to the beach (fee payable). O/S Map: Explorer Map 164 Distance: 5 miles Time: Allow all day to explore and enjoy a picnic en route. Refreshments: On a good weather day, there are lots of picnic opportunities. There are two ‘seasonal’ cafes and a village shop. Terrain: This walk is mainly flat with lots of gates and no stiles. It is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is some country lane walking and several miles along the Wales Coast Path, just above sea-level but there is a ‘sting in the tail! Note: There are steep flights of steps climbing a vertical distance of 250 feet (up then down) in Oxwich Wood near the end of the walk. To avoid the steep steps there are other routes back to the village of Oxwich from points A and B (see sketch-map). History: This area has been the scene of several shipwrecks in its time as there are some treacherous rocks along this picturesque coastline. In 1911, the first aeroplane to fly from Wales left the shore at Oxwich. The Castle on the clifftop is a 16th century house open from April to October inclusive (closed Mon/Tues) 10am to 5pm admission charge. Oxwich Wood is a national nature reserve.
highest point of walk (285 feet). Keep walking along lane with its coastal views. You will pass a cottage called ‘Lundy View’ so you might see the island on a clear day plus Hartland Point and the North Devon coast. You will soon reach hamlet of Slade. Walk down lane opposite Slade Barn that leads to sea. Take footpath round end of large farm-gate and proceed for a short distance down grass track to Wales Coast Path (WCP). 4: Turn left through a metal kiss-gate. The shore in front of you is called ‘ Sands’ and headland on your right is Port Eynon Point.
1: The walk starts at car park entrance near village crossroads.
5: At junction in paths, turn right through kiss-gate and

(Penrice Estate is a big local landowner, including car park) there is a good view of Castle from here. Follow lane left up ‘no through road’ to hamlet of Oxwich Green. 3: Notice converted Wesleyan Chapel dated (1872) on your right. Continue past a lovely row of cottages built of local stone. At junction with bridleway on your right, you are at
coast-path as you walk towards Oxwich Point. This coastline is stunning and unspoilt, it is only accessible to people like yourselves who have made the effort to get here. The good news is that you do not have to climb over the headland as the WCP goes around the edge of it. The bad news is that there is a 250 feet climb at end of walk unless you take option of returning to village from points 6 or 7. 6: Here is path on left that will take you to Oxwich Green. 7: From here you can return to Oxwich Castle – a good option if you want to visit castle (see blue box). Walk continues around headland gaining views across Oxwich Bay towards Pwlldu Head and ‘Mumbles Head’. WCP narrows before it enters woodland with its mainly native trees of Hazel, Sessile Oak, Sycamore, Hawthorn and Mountain Ash, all stunted due to poor growing conditions on north-east flanks of Oxwich Castle. 8: Here you will find steep flights of steps up through woodland with a level path bordering open countryside before you drop down steep flights of steps to beach level at Oxwich. 9: You will pass quaint 16th century Church of St. Illtyd, possible site of 6th century Monastic cell as you near end of this spectacular coastal walk. 10: Turn right through twisty stone gateway into car park or walk into village for your return bus.
