This can be either as a lump sum or by putting in cash when you can. Then the government will add a 25% bonus on top. We also know so far... the bonus is paid until you hit age 50. The bonus is paid annually in the 2017/18 tax year, then monthly from April 2018 – once in your account it counts as your money. You'll be paid interest on it too. The bonus is paid on contributions. But you still have options. If you've not yet bought your first home you may qualify for a Help to Buy ISA – there's no upper age limit to get one of these although you only have until November 2019 to open one. How can I spend my LISA? The money is to be used either towards a first home worth under £450,000 or once you're over 60 towards retirement. The Lifetime ISA is designed for two specific purposes. The Lifetime ISA gives you two savings options: A cash LISA: Here you put the money into the equivalent of a savings account. Your capital is safe and you get a defined amount of interest on top. As a rule of thumb, the first dry and sunny day in March is the ideal time to give your lawn its first cut of the year. Cutting the grass too short, too soon can attract unwanted weeds and moss so to avoid that happening, make sure you use the highest blade setting on your lawnmower. Special fertilisers are available to use at this time of year to give grass the essential nutrients it needs to grow strong and give it a vibrant colour; these seasonal treatments have been specially developed to work in cooler temperatures. Once you’ve carried out basic maintenance on your lawn, it pays to plan ahead to prevent all your hard work in the spring going to waste and to guarantee a beautiful lawn you can enjoy all summer long. Hotter weather and dry spells over the summer can lead to your lawn turning yellow and drying up. There are some really effective treatments out there that can help keep grass stay greener for longer, such as the Oasis treatment from local lawn care specialists. 2. Tree Top Hide Take a deep breath and scale the heights of the beautiful ancient green Oak tree that guards the Welsh Wildlife Centre. Relive your childhood, and venture into the canopy to discover the elusive purple hairstreak butterfly.
7. The Blue Island During spring Skomer Island is covered in a display of beautiful bluebells so vast that the whole island appears blue! The old fields, the valleys, the cliff tops. No part of the island is spared from this bluebell explosion.
3. Puffin Party A visit to Skomer Island between April and August will be sure to put a smile on your face! Have a legendary wildlife adventure with 21,000 waddling Puffins with beaks crammed full of sandeels. 4. But only on Skomer Island will you hear them sing. Their melancholic siren songs travel far and wide. Up to two hundred seals gather to moult at North Haven, entertaining visitors with their squabbles during the day, and haunting their night time walks. 6. Witness Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises and Atlantic Grey Seals in their natural environment. 10. Combine mimimalist shoes with oversized bags and futuristic earrings. havana sunset This vibrant, high-summer trend looks to Cuba for inspiration in a fusion of bright colours and flamboyant floral prints. Vivid colour prints and oversized blooms with colour blocking all nod to this summer trend. Key items to look for are flowing dresses, skirts with matching tops and off the shoulder tops cut in soft cotton, silk de chine, chiffon and georgette. Add ruffles and rich satins with sparkly jewels for that luxurious finish. Handbags in vibrant colours complete the look. modern woman Use oversized jackets and soft-volume tailored separates styled with crisp shirts and blouse to accentuate the shoulders, waist and hips.
Look for ornate, vintage floral prints on sheer georgettes, appliquéd on fabrics or highlighted with metallic detailing. Dresses come in longer midi lengths with tie waist detail and ruffles also update blouses and tops, the key trend of the season. Shoes and handbags are adorned with satin bows, brocades, ornate buckles and ruffles as well as florals and gems. The focus on statement earrings continues with the addition of pearls and crystals for opulence. beachcomber The theme is relaxed but eclectic. Peasant style dresses, skirts and tops are key for this trend, worn with a belt to accentuate the waist. Bring in embroidered florals on tops and jackets, and fringing on skirts to add to the eclectic feel. Look for handcrafted bags and sandals lovingly decorated with gathered shells and natural pearls and handwoven details on bags and cords and rope details on sandals. The good news is, your plans don't have to be elaborate for evenings together to turn out romantic and fun. Sometimes the most-satisfying date nights are the relaxing evenings spent at home with the one you love, while enjoying a simple meal you've prepared with each other. For planning your next dinner rendezvous, here are five great reasons to put seafood on the menu.

KEEPING ACTIVE Start/Finish: This walk starts and ends at Pontypridd Railway Station. Public Transport: Nearest Railway Station is at Pontypridd with rail connections to Cardiff and beyond. There are regular buses through the Rhondda Valley. Please check ‘Traveline Wales’ and timetables before you embark on your journey. Parking: There is parking in Pontypridd but if you want a shorter walk there are car parks higher up the Rhondda Valley (see map). O/S Map: Explorer Map 166. Distance: Main walk, returning through forest, approx. 6 miles. Add extra mile to include ‘Cwm Hafod Trail’ up hillside. (4 mile ‘there and back’ walk along old ‘tramway’). Time: Allow all day for main walk and set off early in the winter months. Take a torch in case darkness falls. Refreshments: There are limited food outlets once you have left Pontypridd so make sure you have water and snacks with you. There is a convenience store near Trehafod Railway Station. There is a café serving hot food (open 11am to 3pm) at the Heritage Centre (closed Sundays and Mondays). Larger walking groups will need to phone 2 days in advance for refreshments and hot food. (Tel. 01443 244305). Terrain: The shorter walk is along the valley floor along old tramway. There is a steady gentle gradient ‘up’ and return slope trending ‘downwards’. There is an additional steep hillside trail (just over a mile) up above the mining museum with extensive views across the coal-mining area and a ‘Forest Trail’ up above the valley on the return route of the main walk. Strong footwear essential. History: This walk explores a welsh mining community. For detailed history, please visit ‘The Rhondda Heritage Park’ at Trehafod (free). Note: Open Tuesday to Saturday (9am to 4.30pm) see sketch-map. www.rhonddaheritagepark.com (Tel. 01443 682 036)
1: From main entrance of Pontypridd Railway Station, turn left to pedestrian crossing that will take you on to cycle route 4 and beneath railway arch to a major junction. Cross diagonally via pedestrian crossings and follow cycle route 4 uphill to rugby ground. Follow cycle route 881 around top edge of stadium along a road that leads to an old railway line (former tramway). 2: Follow signs to Rhonda Heritage Park (mining museum) for two miles. This purpose built ‘pedway’ follows an old railway track that once carried loaded coal wagons from three mines higher up valley down to Barry Docks near Cardiff to be shipped away. Down in Rhondda Valley on right (Cwm Rhondda – which gave its name to well known hymn) is a string of mining villages which housed 5000 miners whose working lives were spent
underground mining a million tons of coal per year. 3: After one mile you will reach ‘Barry (railway) Sidings’ (now a Country Park). On right, you will see remains of an old colliery and River Rhondda. Remain focussed on tall chimney of old ‘Lewis Merthyr Colliery’ ahead, now a fascinating ‘Heritage Centre’ where you will meet some miners and get a chance to go ‘underground’. 4: You are now at ‘Trehafod’ (which means three farms). These farms had mineral rights and were where three main collieries were set up in early 19th century. In 1809, Dr. Richard Griffiths had idea of building a ‘tramway’ (dramway?) that took coal wagons or ‘drams’ from coal face to Old Glamorganshire Canal at Pontypridd. 5: Note: From Heritage Centre there is the optional ‘Cwm Hafod Trail’ - leaflet from Heritage Centre. Not for faint-hearted being a steep climb on narrow paths up to three rows of miner’s cottages at Llewyncelyn with views across Rhondda Valley – (now quite colourful and not the ‘Rhondda Grey’ of the song by Max Boyce). 6: From ‘Heritage Centre’ return to end of tramway (point 4 on outer walk). Climb up 49 steps at end of road and turn left along terrace. Climb up to top terrace (Mount Pleasant) and turn left along track. Climb steadily up slope, glancing back down rows of miner’s houses to winding wheels and chimney. 7: Follow this wide track up towards forest ignoring any downward paths. Track curves right and climbs away from valley, deeper into forest, to reach junction with wider forest route-way. Turn left and follow this track beneath pylon-line then ½ mile (southwestwards) to ’hairpin’ bend. 8: Find narrower path that goes straight on and can be muddy. Go past small-holding and turn right up over small hill to another track. Turn left and follow track downhill to ‘Gelliwion Road’ (You are now on cycle path 4) 9: Follow this road twisting down hillside to a junction. If you bear left briefly you will be able to follow purpose built cycle-path 4 down to major junction near rugby ground. 10: Cross pedestrian lights and beneath railway bridges. Cross another busy junction via pedestrian crossings and walk up slope to Pontypridd Railway Station. Written and Illustrated by Glynis Dray

Pre-Raphaelite Welsh landscape acquired by Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has bought a significant Pre-Raphaelite painting of a North Wales landscape, thanks to support from the Art Fund and private donors. 'Sandbanks on the Mawddach, Barmouth' by John Ingle Lee (1863-4) is an impressive example of a Welsh landscape during the Victorian period.
T
he oil painting is a dramatic view of the Mawddach Estuary, an area to the south of Snowdonia National Park in northwest Wales. Lee’s painting looks eastwards and inland from a viewpoint
above Barmouth known as the ‘Panorama View’. Surviving works by John Ingle Lee (1839-1882) are very rare, yet his art is increasingly recognised and sought after and his paintings are ambitious examples of a young Liverpool artist embracing Pre-Raphaelitism in its prime. Born in Liverpool in 1839, John was the fifth of seven children. The family business eventually grew to become George Henry Lee’s, a renowned Liverpool department store run by John’s two eldest brothers. Lee first exhibited at the Liverpool Academy in 1859, and from 1863 exhibited
