WIN TICKETS TO WORCESTER RACECOURSE New for 2017 is Gentlemen’s Evening on Friday 26 May, a great way to start the bank holiday weekend in style. Offering great racing action for everyone, plus Morgan Motors will be displaying their cars and offering one lucky customer the chance to win one for the weekend. Tonic Worcester will be sampling their cocktails, Barbertown are hosting a pop up barber shop and men’s health charity Go Dad Run will be staging the Go Dad Run Big Blue Pants Relay Race which will be a sight to behold!
As May approaches, the team at Worcester Racecourse make their final preparations for the season ahead. Well known as being the home of summer jump racing, Worcester Racecourse has an action packed calendar commencing on Thursday 11 May and concluding on Wednesday 25 October. Throughout the 2017 season, no fewer than 10 feature racedays will be staged at the Pitchcroft track, located in the heart of Worcester, with the racecourse hosting 20 fixtures in total, 5 of which are held on glorious summer evenings. A perfect day out for the whole family, there are two family fun days on Sunday 25 June and Sunday 3 September, with plenty of entertainment for the kids and thrilling racing
action for the grown ups. Children under 18 go FREE with an adult! New for 2017, the season will end during half term on Wednesday 25 October, where there will be a spooky Halloween theme, giving the kids the ideal opportunity to dress up and enjoy a fun day out at the races. The highly anticipated CrownGate Ladies Day returns on Saturday 3 June, where record crowds flock to the racecourse for a day for high fashion and high-octane jump racing. Other feature racedays include the Severn Valley Railway Raceday on Wednesday 14 June, Senior Citizens Raceday on Wednesday 10 July, new for 2017 Irish Night on Tuesday 18 July, the Pershore Plum Festival Racenight on Tuesday 1 August, and the Big Macmillan Coffee Morning and Raceday on Friday 29 September.

Explore the cellars and attics, and discover the secret architecture hidden from daily view. At 7.30pm, we will start an exploration with a difference of the museum as we descend below floors to discover the ancient monuments in the cellars. We’ll then ascend up stairs to act as building detectives, wandering the attics and seeing the architecture normally a secret only the staff get to see! Historic spring tradition Oak Apple Day will be brought to life at The Commandery once again this year. It originated in 1660 as a public holiday celebrating the return to the throne of Charles II after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester, the final battle of the English Civil War. Festooned with oak leaves, The Commandery will bring this little-known tradition, which was celebrated for 200 years up until Victorian times, to life with participatory maypole and Morris dancing, a living history camp with the Worcester Militia and Restoration period children’s games. There’s also a chance to see a 17th century football match and meet some curious characters in the oldfashioned coffee shop. Visitors will want to wear their sprig of oak leaves, as tradition has it that those who didn’t were thrashed with nettles! Morris dancing outside The Commandery. LEOMINSTER FESTIVAL 2017 Leominster town and surrounding area. This year marks the 33rd festival and there is something for everyone in the programme. From active walks in the surrounding countryside to some high quality music provided by the famous Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra. Once again there will be input from local artists, authors and musicians. With some dedicated art workshops at The Priory by talented local illustrator Ian Welch. One of the many highlights is the free family fun day which takes place at The Grange on Saturday 10th June. Come along with the family and spend the day with Fetch Theatre and take part in the big draw. Family Event is free but other events may be charged.

BRITISH RACING GREEN Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, Shelsley Walsh, Worcester WR6 6RP. Time: 9am – 5.30pm. Best of British is the second meeting of the year at Shelsley Walsh. Saturday and Sunday have both practice and competition on each day, with practice in the morning and competition in the afternoon. The event also features a round of the Midland Hill Climb Championship (practice Saturday, competition Sunday). All competitors are offered at least two practice runs and two competitive runs on each day, with the exception of Midland Hill Climb Championship competitors whose event runs

For over 120 years Ballingham Hall has been home to the Watkins family, owners of Castle House. A Grade II listed sandstone manor house with a fully working farm, the Hall’s kitchen garden grows much of the seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruit for the hotel’s menus. Meet at Ballingham Hall, where you will be welcomed by George Watkins who will take you on a tour of the farm. You will meet Colin Brown, the gardener who looks after the Kitchen Garden, as well as Castle House’s pretty terraced garden. and lots of steam trains – half-term fun at the SVR! A Treasure Hunt challenge awaits visitors at The Engine House Visitor Centre, and once the bounty has been found, there are plenty of fun interactive exhibits to explore, from the Peter’s Railway Young Engineers Centre to the Travelling Post Office as well as the SVR’s reserve collection of heritage steam locomotives to marvel at.
Amazing heritage steam trains and fun challenges are on offer to visitors at the Severn Valley Railway this half-term.
A family friendly menu is on offer at The Engine House’s Flag & Whistle Food Stop, with its panoramic views out over the Severn Valley and children can let-off steam on The Engine House’s outdoor play area.
The Railway’s heritage steam locomotives will be in full steam, taking passengers on exciting journeys of adventure through the beautiful Severn Valley from May 27th – June 4th.

BBC 6 Music’s resident poet Murray Lachlan Young will provide an enlightening hour of merriment and mayhem in a ground-breaking show with his Modern Cautionary Tales for Children, whilst Professor Elemental will be running an interactive Rap Workshop for every age and ability.
The question How Can Autistic People Help You? will be explored with fun sessions explaining how the condition has already benefitted the world, alongside this Cheltenham Poetry Festival bring along singer song writer Chris Hemingway to lead a lyric writing workshop in which festival goers will explore ways of using narrative, character and even a little humour to craft punchy lyrics. For the musical minded Ukulele lessons for all abilities will take place at the festival, not to
mention Come and Sing workshops for adults and Open Mic Session. The little ones will also have the chance to explore languages through music, puppets and parachutes with the help of Multilingual, Multisensory Music Session .

BOOK WEEK AT ARLEY ARBORETUM Every school holiday Arley Arboretum allows free entrance for children and this May half term our theme is BOOK WEEK. Free entrance applies from 29th May to 2nd June 2017.
Arley Arboretum is a fantastic venue for a family day out or to meet up with friends. With over 45 acres to explore, the children can run around and expel some of their excess energy. During Book Week, we have a new book trail, with a small £2 charge. Everyone who completes the trail will get a prize book.
