manor house school Inspirational schools transform lives and, at Manor House School, we aim to ensure that all girls achieve and experience more than they ever thought was possible, right from the very beginning of their education.
The girls learn in an environment that is fun, interactive and creative. We encourage a strong sense of independence, creativity and an investigative approach to learning. Staff stretch and support every girl academically, whilst ensuring that she is a happy and active member of the school community. Forest School sessions are a key part of the Pre-Prep curriculum and take place in an outdoor classroom area with specialist subject tuition in PE, French, Music (learning the violin, piano and recorder by the end of Year 2), cooking and the Performing Arts (ballet, dance and drama). Physical development includes games skills and activities, gymnastics, dance, outdoor adventure activities and swimming. Tennis and a running club are also included in extracurricular club activity. Girls learn French from Nursery, and later learn Spanish in Year 5 and then Latin in Year 6, in
addition to an introduction to German.
Junior extra-curricular sports activities include team netball, hockey, rounders, tennis, athletics, gymnastics, cross country and swimming matches versus other schools. There are mix and match netball, football and hockey sessions open to all plus some activity specific sports clubs and tennis coaching sessions after school. Academic results at the end of Year 6 are well above the expected national average with many girls achieving Levels 5 or 6 in SATs testing. Class sizes and form groups are smaller allowing staff to know all the girls individually. A morning and afternoon minibus service operates across four area routes. Tracey Fantham BA (Hons) MA NPQH became Headteacher in September 2016. Families are welcome to tour the school throughout the academic year. www.manorhouseschool.org admissions@manorhouseschool.org Manor House School, Manor House Lane, Bookham, Surrey KT23 4EN. n
TORMEAD SCHOOL
At Tormead we encourage each girl to develop her talents to the full, instilling a life-long love of learning. The curriculum offers breadth and challenge, and ensures that each girl gains a fine foundation to her education – providing her with core skills and knowledge that will stand her in good stead for the future. Academic expectations are high but our aim is to achieve this through stimulating, enjoyable and well-taught lessons in a happy, friendly and relaxed school. The school prides itself on its high academic standards and expectation of the girls whilst ensuring teaching and learning is ‘fun’ including many first-hand experiences. The Early Years Foundation stage and National Curriculum are extended and enriched by skilled, enthusiastic staff. French is taught from Year 2 and Latin is added to the girls’ timetable in Year 5. All girls enjoy specialist teaching in music, games and gymnastics and from Year 2 also in Design Technology. The ICT curriculum gradually builds up the skills of the girls, and by the end of the Junior School they are confidently using iPads as a tool for learning. The girls enjoy numerous opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities. The aim of the school is to offer a comprehensive range of activities to allow each girl to find something during the week that she would like to participate in and so develop her talents in this area, regardless of their ability. are taken on further in their chosen activity with additional practices. Extra-curricular activities (in addition to sports) include; archery, art, LAMDA, Jazz Band, instrumental ensembles, orchestras, choirs, gardening, computers, cookery and board games. All the girls enjoy specialist teaching in all aspects of PE including swimming and gymnastics. All sport except swimming is catered for by facilities on the Junior or Senior School site and includes the use of the sprung floor gymnasium. The school enjoys success at the highly competitive ISGA gymnastics competition. The girls have regular fixtures in numerous sports, throughout the year, with neighbouring schools. The ethos of the school means that all girls have an opportunity to be involved in sporting (in fact, all) extracurricular activities regardless of their ability. There are high expectations of behaviour both in and outside the classroom. Tormead is within walking distance of Guildford town centre and London Road station, and runs coach services that serve local towns and villages.

CRANMORE SCHOOL
Cranmore School, one of Surrey’s leading independent prep schools, has an impressive academic record underpinned by strong pastoral care. It has extended its co-ed provision to become fully coeducational, welcoming girls and boys from aged 2½ to 13. Cranmore was awarded the top grade in every category for its most recent ISI inspection. The school has been commended for its academic reputation, excellent facilities and high quality music and sport. Michael Connolly, Headmaster, commented: “We are implementing this change from a position of strength. Increasingly parents want their sons and daughters to be educated together and

we feel sure that Cranmore is well placed to deliver an outstanding education for both boys and girls.” Successful schools never stand still. Recent developments at Cranmore include a Forest School for younger children, a major makeover of the 25m. indoor pool, and a hospitality suite to entertain parents and visitors at school functions. We have transformed our Bright Stars Nursery with an exciting, imaginative £250,000 project to create a state-of-the art outdoor play and learning area. Already graded ‘outstanding’ in its most recent inspection report, the additional facilities make Bright Stars at Cranmore one of the top nurseries in the South-East. n

Spectrum will be transformed to a magical castle this Christmas as the popular pantomime ‘Cinderella’ takes to the ice. This classic fairy story adaptation combines all the ingredients for a great show – an enchanted forest, a beautiful carriage, a handsome hero, a sprinkle of magic, plenty of comedy and of course, a happy ending from a rags to riches story. But what makes our annual pantomime so special is all those who take part in it! It is a real community event, performed entirely by all the skaters who learn here at Spectrum.
Spectrum’s talented ice team are pulling out all the stops for this year’s ice pantomime, Cinderella. The three day festive ice show will run from 9th to 11th December and will feature performances by some of the region’s rising skating stars. This show is still one of the best value local Christmas shows and promises to have, all the ingredients needed for a truly spectacular family treat. To book visit our online box office at guildfordspectrum. co.uk or call the box office on 01483 443333. n
This year’s fairest pantomime of them all, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs is guaranteed to melt everyone’s heart this Christmas at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking. The job of head dwarf Prof is a tall order but nothing that TV and film star Warwick Davis can’t measure up to! Known to millions from his role in Star Wars, the Harry Potter series and Willow, as well as TV comedy series Life’s Too Short and Idiot Abroad 3, he will ensure the panto won’t be short of laughs this festive season. Warwick said; “I am delighted to be coming to Woking this Christmas in the spectacular production of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. I’m very proud of the show that we have created and I am lucky enough to be involved with the script and direction of the show. I can guarantee you and the family will have a great time. I’ve heard the Woking audiences are some of the best in the country so I look forward to seeing you all later in the year.” Joining Warwick will be comedy favourite
Andy Ford as Herman the Henchman. Andy has performed his comedy routines to Her Majesty The Queen and also topped the bill at the world famous London Palladium. Adding some menace to proceedings will be Anne Smith as our Wicked Queen. Whilst theatre stalwart Shaun Dalton, who has appeared in a wealth of theatre productions in the West End and throughout the UK including Les Miserables and Beauty & the Beast, will be our handsome and heroic Prince. As Snow White’s trusty pal Muddles will be Chris Cox, a multi award winning mind reader who can’t read minds! Star of BBC Three’s Killer Magic and the recent hit magic show Impossible in the West End, Chris is known for his funny, confident and charismatic performances delivering incredible mind-reading stunts with a mischievous sense of fun that will amaze and entertain!
