WISH FOR IN A
PANTOMIME! It’s nearly panto season… oh yes it is! This year’s pantomime, Aladdin, opens at the New Victoria Theatre on Friday 6 December 2019 and runs until Sunday 5 January 2020. After the great success of last year’s Cinderella, audiences can expect a show packed with all of the traditional pantomime ingredients, a lamp-load of comedy, jaw-dropping special effects and plenty of boos and hisses the whole family will enjoy! Not only will Aladdin include a lot of laughs, music and fun, the show will star Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole as the Genie of the Ring and comedy and panto legend Bobby Davro as Wishee Washee. Children will also recognise CBBC’s Mischa Eckersley (4 O’Clock Club) as Princess Jasmine. Aladdin is certain to have something for everyone and the New Victoria Theatre is hosting a number of accessible performances, including Signed, Captioned and Audio Described
performances. There will also be a Relaxed Performance, a specially modified performance where noise and sound effects will be limited, lights will stay on in the auditorium and audience members can come and go as they please throughout on Thursday 12 December.

MONSTER FUN AT MARWELL
THIS OCTOBER HALF TERM From 26 October to 3 November 2019, guests can take part in a free monster trail and track down 12 hidden monsters around the zoo. The colourful illustrated beasts include a panteater, spitopotamus and a scary scornbill to name but a few.
This October half term, Marwell Zoo in Hampshire will be home to some frightening new species as little monsters are invited to join in some ‘monster fun’ around its 140-acre park.

Other complimentary activities include broomstick flying with Marwell’s resident and wise old wizard Lowedolf, where children can earn their level four licence, and spooky story telling with Esme the friendly witch.

Until Sunday 3rd Nov WATTS GALLERY – ARTISTS’ VILLAGE: JOHN FREDERICK LEWIS: FACING FAME This monographic exhibition on the nineteenth-century artist, John Frederick Lewis (1804-1876), will feature a wide variety of vivid and detailed paintings created by the artist during his travels in Europe and the Middle East. Throughout his career, Lewis travelled extensively. Early visits to Scotland were followed by time spent in Germany, Italy and Spain. After visiting Greece, Constantinople and Bursa, Lewis continued on towards Egypt in 1841. This journey was a defining moment; it was Lewis’s move to the Islamic quarters of Cairo that significantly shaped both his creative practice and the artistic

Saturday 2nd BROCKHAM BONFIRE One of the largest firework displays in Surrey. Brockham Bonfire, is a traditional ‘family’ night of fun and celebration to raise funds for local societies, worthy causes and local charities. Please allow plenty of time to get to the firework display, as Brockham get extremely busy on Bonfire Night. Car parks are well signposted and numbered. The centre of Brockham becomes a traffic exclusion zone from 5.30pm until at least 10.30pm. A voluntary donation per person is asked to support the
various local charities and societies. Procession leaves the Village Green and heads North and then South: 6:15pm. Lighting of the Bonfire: 7:45pm. Fireworks Display: 8:15pm. CRANLEIGH LIONS BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS All day events followed by fireworks at 7.30pm. Make-a-Guy competition, torch-light procession, bonfire and firework display. Sponsored by Cranleigh and District Lions Club 6:00pm: Procession starts from Park Drive, Ewhurst Road led by The Friary Guildford Marching Band. There will be traffic delays in the Ewhurst Road and Cranleigh High Street whilst the procession is on. 6:30pm: Crowds in Stocklund Square join in the Torchlight Procession. 6:45pm (approx): Bonfire Prayer is read to the crowd, & winning “Guy” is placed on top of the Bonfire, on The Common, Elmbridge Road side, GU6 8LU. The winning guy at the 2018 at the Cranleigh Bonfire & Fireworks 6:50pm (approx): Bonfire is set ablaze. Torch bearers pass their torches to the Bonfire Marshalls. 7:30pm: Firework display set to music by Star Fireworks (who won
the British Fireworks Championship in 2013) on The Common, Guildford Road side. 8pm: Benson’s Fun Fair continues on The Common. This is a free show, however please give generously to our collectors. Please may we suggest you put a minimum of £5.00 in our buckets. All profits from the event help charitable organisations, families and individuals in Cranleigh and the surrounding area that need our support. Please note road closures around Cranleigh. All roads around the Bonfire and Fireworks site are closed from 6.00pm until 10.00pm. This includes Guildford Road from Gaston Gate, Elmbridge Road from Lashmere, The High Street from the roundabout by Superdrug, and Horseshoe Lane. Parking is available behind the Stocklund Square shops and please check to see if charges apply as this is on private land. Tuesday 19th November 2019 - 23rd February 2020 WILLIAM ORPEN Watts Contemporary Gallery. Celebrated for his career as an official war artist and commercially successful portraitist, Irish-born painter, Sir William Orpen KBE RA (1878 – 1931), is known for his rapid and expressive painting style. Orpen was, however, meticulous when rendering the human form. Featuring a selection of striking portraits alongside closely observed pencil studies, this exhibition will present a unique insight into Orpen’s artistic process, challenging the perception that his technique was spontaneous and impulsive.

STELLA Tuesday 29th October, 11:30am & 2.30pm. ‘Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet’ – Stephen Hawking . Stella is a Star Engineer. From her home on the Moon she keeps the stars shining bright for when we need them most, to make a wish or find our way back home. But down on Earth things are changing. The world is becoming bright, busy and people aren’t looking up. The stars are burning out and it’s up to Stella to save them – but she can’t do it alone. Using projection, playful performance and aerial circus, we want to talk about our sky and how sometimes it is important to turn out the lights and wish upon a star. Stella has been commissioned by ARC, Stockton and The Barnsley Civic. This piece has been created using research from the International Dark Sky Association and text gathered during workshops with local schools. Age guidance: families with children 3+ £8
