For most children, treatment with paracetamol and/or ibuprofen, with sugary fluids when they’re not eating, are usually enough to help.

Each illness has a traffic light system to help parents manage their child’s symptoms at home, with red flags for when they might need to seek more specialist help, from their GP, 111 or visit the emergency department.

It’s evident that all kids love to play, but when using their imaginations, children are also developing emotional capabilities, learning to problem solve, and fostering an understanding of the adult world in which they live.

Colwell noted that children who engage in imaginative play show more emotional engagement, thoughtfulness and understanding, and less negative emotions such as selfishness and anger.
