Make the most of the sun throughout the day, ensure your running order of the day takes into consideration the sun's movements. For example, don't take your wedding pictures at noon or too close to noon, the sun is likely to be directly overhead and this may cause unflattering shadows. NEW LOCAL FOOD

ALL UNDER ONE ROOF Bells Farm Shop has teamed up with Little Black Pig to create a local food hub. Little Black Pig has moved into Bells Farm Shop on Chadwick Bank, Hartlebury. This brings the local quality meat produce sold by Little Black Pig to a site where customers can already buy a full range of home grown fruit and vegetables as well as a range of other local produce.

L

ittle Black Pig has been established for ten years, founder Kate Daniels said “we wanted to create a business that helped connect ordinary people to the land and the food

it produces – including producing meat from healthy and happy animals.” With a reputation for free range pork and grass fed lamb, hogget and mutton Little Black Pig now offer a full range of butchery produce – with all meat either produced at home or sourced locally. The Colwill family who own Bell’s grow over 200 different varieties of fruit and vegetables on the 40 acres surrounding the shop, supplying year round fresh produce for the Farm Shop and P.Y.O. The Colwill’s also farm at Little Witley where they grow cherries, apricots and plums, which are seasonally available in the Farm Shop. Penny Colwill of Bell’s Farm Shop said “We are delighted to be teaming up with Little Black Pig, customers can now buy our delicious produce as well as the best of other local food all under one roof and of course they can still pick their own produce fresh from the field. Bell’s Farm Shop and Pick Your Own has been established for over 50 years and is well known for quality fresh produce at reasonable prices. Plums, Damsons, Stick Beans and New Potatoes will be the big treats in August, either in the shop or P.Y.O. The new Butchery is now open for business offering their award winning sausages, home cured bacon, prize winning faggots and black pudding, as well as a whole range of fresh meats including local beef. There will be a Grand Opening on Saturday 2nd September by local Great British Bake Off Finalist Mary-Anne Boermans, who is a customer of ours – why not join us?

Start/Finish: Walk starts/ends at Great Malvern Railway Station. Public Transport: Nearest Railway Station at Great Malvern. Please check current timetables. Parking: There are parking spaces in roads nearby but please do not use Station Car Park or immediate vicinity required for rail travellers. Please respect local residents by parking sensitively. O/S Map: Explorer Map 190 Distance: The main walk is 6 miles. Shorter option approx 4.5 miles. Time: Allow all day to do main walk. Shorter walk approx. 2-3 hours. Refreshments: After leaving Malvern there are no shops or pubs until you return to Barnard’s Green. A Packed lunch will be required. Terrain: This walk is almost level with a few gentle slopes, some stiles, gates, kiss-gates and foot-bridges. Apart from a walk around Malvern itself, the route is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs on leads near livestock and traffic please. There is unusually a width restriction of 18 inches through one ‘opening’ on this walk. History: You will see old malt-houses at Guarlford, a dovecot, the remains of a Moated Court, an old Rectory, Guarlford Church, a thriving ‘prize-winning’ Garden Nursery, several barns and a number of timberframed buildings. There is evidence that there were a number of hamlets en route that have long since gone – Hall Green, Sherrards Green and possibly Woodbridge. There is an ‘Ecoforest’ on outskirts of Malvern. The walk features Roman Road named ‘Wood Street’ where for over 2000 years travellers have passed with horses, carts and donkeys carrying salt and goods from the River Severn towards South Wales. There are frequent views of the Malvern Hills.

1: From Great Malvern Station, leave main entrance bearing left along Imperial Road. Turn left down Clarence Road beneath railway and past ‘Morgan’ PH to Court Road then turn right. Walk to old ‘Fountain’ PH on right, turn right up Thirlstane Road, beneath railway and left through old metal gate with latch onto commonland. With railway on left, walk along Common to Peachfield Road. 2: Turn left over railway bridge, crossing St. Andrew’s Road. Walk down left side of common to Longridge Road. Cross road and shortly fork right on common path following Peachfield Road to junction with Poolbrook Road. 3: Cross to Hayes Bank Road then walk up Hawthorn Lane to

with hedge on left for ¼ mile via ‘openings’ (minimum gap 18”). You are now on line of old Roman Road, ‘Wood Street’ and looking back you will see gap in Malvern Hills (Wyche Cutting) where travellers crossed. Continue along this lovely ridgeway as far as lane at Guarlford. 4: Fork Right at ‘Woodbridge Farm’ and walk to Guarlford Village Centre where hops were processed in days gone by. (Notice old Malthouse down Penny Lane on right). You will also see Grange Farm Nursery – an award winning family run business, well worth returning to! The Church on left is worth exploring too and there is a seat nearby for a picnic! 5: Turn left towards Malvern down main road (B4211) to footpath on right. Cross two large fields with hedge on left then veer diagonally left to far corner of field to join another path where you need to turn right. Pass woodland on left and curve round with hedge on left to pond. Keep straight on along path (hedge now on right) aiming for right end of houses, to exit down path onto Chance Lane, Malvern. Turn right, keeping right at junction then take footpath over footbridge into large field. The path is well marked through crop and goes diagonally right towards ‘Moat Court’ (with barns and dovecot). Leave field over stile and turn right along drive of Court to Madresfield Road. 6: Cross to stile (beside large ‘Moat Pond’). Follow way-marked

end. Go through kiss-gate on right then across to second kiss-

route with hedge on right taking second path on left through

gate, turning left. Follow path with hedge on right to stile through

Malvern’s young ‘Eco-Forest’. Keep left at next junction in paths

hedge. Cross this and turn left. Walk up side of horse paddocks

(hedge now on left) and exit into Mayfield Road. Take footpath opposite to play area then bear right behind houses into Mayfield Grove. 7: Turn Left along North End Lane to traffic lights. 8: Cross to Hayslan Road. Walk through track at end and straight across field to path between fences that leads beneath railway into Sling Lane (or turn left beneath railway to follow path through meadows to cut corner off exiting at Malvern ‘Cube’). 9: Turn left along Albert Road North. 10: Turn left down Barnard’s Green Road to Imperial Road and across Avenue Road to Railway Station. and sits within a 5,000 acre estate of breath-taking scenery. ust 10 minutes from the national motorway network, the castle has ease of access and is within easy reach of major cities and airports. The estate includes a deer park, lakes, woodland,

quarries and hills.

Eastnor was built by the 2nd Baron (Lord) Somers, later the 1st Earl, between 1810 and 1824. The combination of inherited wealth, his judicious marriage to the daughter of the eminent and rich Worcestershire historian, Rev. Treadway Russell Nash, and his great ambition prompted the 1st Earl to commission a castle to impress his contemporaries and raise his family into the higher ranks of the ruling class. Then, as now, the size and splendour of a country house evidenced the standing and fortune of any family.

was a symbolic and defiant assertion of power by an aristocrat in a period of fear and uncertainty following the French Revolution and during the Napoleonic Wars. The symmetry of the design emphasized authority, distinguishing Eastnor from the more rambling, picturesque, castellated mansions of a slightly earlier period at Downton Castle (Shropshire) and Smirke’s 1805 creation for the Earl of Lonsdale at Lowther Castle (Cumbria). Designed to resemble a medieval Welshborder fortress, Eastnor Castle is a perfect example of Norman and Gothic Revival architecture By most standards, the castle is massive, and the construction team and materials used were on a similar scale. 250 men working day and night were employed over the first six years of building, and in the first 18 months 4,000 tons of building stone, 16,000 tons of mortar and 600 tons of wood were used.

The magnificent rooms include: a vast 60 foot high Great Hall; a Gothic Drawing Room designed by Pugin, with its original furniture; a Long Library in the style of the Italian Renaissance; a dramatic State Dining Room for corporate and private functions plus an Octagon Saloon featuring spectacular views over the lake. The interior hosts some spectacular collections ranging from early Italian Fine Art and Medieval Armour, to 17th century Venetian furniture, Flemish tapestries and paintings by Van Dyck, Reynolds, Romney and Watts.
