DIGITAL ADVICE DAY 3: Your website

Making the most of your website Your website should be thought of as your digital showroom, it greets users, guides them through your product range, informs them about features and may even allow them to book appointments; it never sleeps. So, it’s important to give it the best chance to wow your potential customers, by not only making it ultra-fast but also rich in content and easy to navigate; the ultimate goal is to provide valuable information to help guide a customer to the style of their choice and for them to hire you to make their dream a reality.

In this booklet you will learn our

TOP TIPS on getting the most from your account.

TOP TIP

The user experience:

To make the most of your content and ensure you keep the customer engaged and on your website, we would advise you have a page for each range you offer, about us, contact us, legal notices (like cookie policy, privacy policy, terms and conditions) and if you have a showroom, a page for this too, so they can get a feel for what they can expect from a visit.

We would also encourage you to include a gallery of your previous work - in almost every instance, real kitchen pages are the most visited, so keep adding fresh jobs to your website and if possible give them a small write up too.

TOP TIP

Speed Factors

Arguably the most important factor to a good website experience is the loading speed of the site; usually web users will give a site around 3 seconds.

Two of the best tools to check your site speed are GT Metrix and the Google PageSpeeds Insights tool. These are both professional level tools so do not worry if every feature / metric does not make complete sense.

TOP TIP

GT Metrix

GT Metrix offers a myriad of different reports that all break down your site into its constituent parts and analyses how long each one takes to load.

The summary slide will give you a speed overview of when your site first loads, how long it takes to be interactive and when it is completely loaded. If you are feeling confident, dive in the waterfall report tab and the tool will show you in milliseconds how long each element of your site has taken to load. Again, do not worry if not everything makes sense, if your performance or structure score is below 90%, download the report and share it with your developer.

TOP TIP

Google PageSpeed Google PageSpeed Insights is somewhat of a toned down version of GT Metrix but what makes it unique is its ability to display speed issues for mobile and desktop - as these may vary depending on your mobile responsiveness solution.

If you have too much of a variance between desktop and mobile speed, it may be worth looking at the way your mobile site is set up and if some elements need to be frozen on mobile.
