For the past 16 years, Dance has thrived as an academic pursuit at the College, witnessing the growth of talented, impassioned students delving into the realm of Dance as an art form. Pymble Dancers have not only garnered numerous HSC Dance Callback nominations, multiple state rankings, and even a perfect score of 100/100, but they have also gained something far more profound than impressive scores. The HSC Dance curriculum has proven to be robust, stimulating, and full of challenges, instilling skills that extend well beyond the confines of the Dance Studio.
Dance education presents a unique platform, where each student brings a diverse range of individual characteristics into the studio. This discipline necessitates a consideration of physical, social, and cognitive aspects in every lesson. Pymble’s Elective Dance program is designed to harness these diversities, aiding students in customizing their growth to align with the demands of the course. Through Dance, students have delved into subjects spanning social, political and global themes, engaging in profound discussions to interpret dance performances. They have not only honed their physical prowess to meet the demands of performances but also fostered collaborative, supportive relationships within each class.
This year, the accomplishments of the Dance program continue to shine brightly. Our Year 10 Dance students proudly represented the College at the Independent Dance Festival, showcasing their talent and dedication to the art form on a broader stage. In Year 11, students embarked on a deep exploration of the interplay between AI and dance composition, considering how artificial intelligence can both assist and hinder the creative process. This engagement with cutting-edge technology showcases the program’s commitment to fostering innovative thinking within the realm of dance. Meanwhile, our Year 12 students have once again demonstrated their artistic maturity by producing a diverse and sophisticated collection of practical works. These final projects stand as a testament to their growth and development throughout their years of study. Alongside this, several of our students are also extending themselves by studying their Cert II in Dance or Cert III in Assistant Dance Teaching.
A special acknowledgment goes to our exceptional educators: Ms. Melissa Cooper-Findlay, Mrs. Rebecca York, and Mrs. Keya Pettigrew, who have stood as passionate collaborators and experts in their field of Dance. Gratitude also extends to Mr. Marcus Stafford, Mrs. Natasha Stanfield, Mr Jake Plaskett, Mr Dan Brown, Mr Anthony England, Ms. Sonja Schulze, Miss Samantha Hibburt, Miss Genevieve Gardiner and the entire Pymble Dance Staff for their collective dedication to our Curriculum Dance program. The elective dancers would like to pay tribute to our amazing Pymble Dance Teachers and their choreographic influences on their works.
