Curricular Music
Our Classroom Music program teaches skills in confidence and discipline as girls perform, compose and understand music through practical activities. Girls learn musical concepts, rhythm, pitch, dynamics and instrumentation, along with singing and movement, percussion and body percussion, and join in group and individual performances and investigation
Girls in Years 3 and 4 study music as part of the Creative Arts curriculum. Girls have a choice between the Classroom Music Program or the instrumental program; these are the Year 3 String program and the Year 4 Band Program. Our Year 3 String Program is open to beginners and continuers on violin, viola, cello and double bass, using instruments tailor-made to smaller age groups. All string students are also part of the Year 3 Orchestra, tailored to all levels and enhancing their aural skills and harmonic depth. Afternoon rehearsals are required.
Our Year 4 Band Program is open to beginners of a band instrument: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, trombone, percussion or bass guitar. Every week, girls will receive one 60-minute group lesson on their chosen band instrument, as well as a tutorial with an instrument specialist.
