Ashley Turner Doyle's New Book Turns a New Leaf The name itself has echoed through the travel journalism industry. Ashley Turner Doyle is an awardwinning writer, photographer and videographer. This South Carolina native has traveled far and wide, covering a multitude of important issues that span across several different countries. Her latest project, however, is not that of your average travel writer. Rather, it is the product of a woman whose successful career in both journalism and motherhood have come together to create something new that speaks to a different, and perhaps much larger audience. It all started with a photo of Doyle and a little Rwandan girl. After getting her degree from Loyola University, Doyle had gone abroad to study gorillas in Africa. Every morning she ventured deep into the jungle to study these wild beasts and document their behavior; but with the rest of her days free of any scheduled activity, she started serving as a role model for youth in the area. Her generous support and mentorship of these children eventually developed a motherly sense of nurture in Doyle, which she applied later towards her own kids. Her work in Rwanda caught the attention of Lonely Planet, Discovery and other industry moguls. The work contracts started pouring in, and before she knew it she was off to Mumbai. Upon landing, she immediately noticed men in streets who were hoisting crates over their heads that carried a variety of lunch pails. Doyle's curiosity sparked, and thus her popular piece on Mumbai's dabbawalas was conceived. Several years and countries later, it was time for Doyle to return to the United States. She was welcomed home with a multitude of awards for her work abroad, and had found ways to keep her writing career alive domestically. She started to raise two children, and was now embracing new ways to share her stories of exploration in a manner that spoke to a younger generation. This is how The Beauty of Color came to fruition. It is a collection of children's poems meant to encourage young minds to dream and to explore, a credo that drove Doyle throughout her own professional accomplishments. Whether you are a child, poet, journalist, explorer, mother or a combination of some or all of these things, Doyle's latest work will speak to you in ways you can't imagine. Be on the lookout for The Beauty of Color and other works to come from Ashley Turner Doyle, an extraordinarywriter with a fervent agenda.
