Captain Aaron Wright: Bullying in Schools

Page 1

Captain Aaron Wright: Bullying in Schools Aaron Wright, a dedicated and experienced ship’s captain, believes that everyone is responsible for making the world a better place. He and his family are avid volunteers within their community, doing what they can to help others, knowing that their community will be stronger as a result. Captain Wright has seen how just helping one person can change not only their life but the lives of those in the surrounding area. Captain Wright is involved with several charities, all of which are dedicated to helping to fund research and put lives back together. As a father of three, the non-profit that Captain Wright is most active with is Stomp Out Bullying. Bullying is not a new concept, and it is something that even Captain Aaron Wright dealt with as a child. However, unlike when he was growing up, children can no longer escape from those that are bullying them. With the Internet and social media, kids today are forced to endure harassment and bullying around the clock and often parents aren’t even aware that it is happening. This is something that terrifies Captain Wright as a father, as he wants to protect his children, but feels that this new form of bullying is harder to deal with and can have a more devastating effect on children. The non-profit Stomp Out Bullying is the leading national bullying and cyberbullying prevention organization in the United States. Captain Aaron Wright believes that the work that they do with teens and the education they provide parents is invaluable when it comes to preventing bullying and cyberbullying and other forms of digital abuse. The non-profit’s goals include putting an end to the crisis kids are facing today and creating prevention education and peer mentoring in schools throughout the country, something that Captain Wright believes is an important first step to keeping his children safe. For Captain Aaron Wright, his children are his world. Since he is away at sea for long periods of time, he is not able to keep a close eye on what his children are doing. That is why he makes it a point to stay connected with his kids while he is away from home and why, as a family, they discuss the issue of bullying and cyberbullying when he is home. He knows that he has taught his children the importance of treating everyone with respect, compassion, and empathy and knows that he is doing everything he can to keep his kids safe.
