A home energy rating, he explains, is an analysis of a home's energy efficiency according to the Home Energy Rating System index, known as the HERS index. This, he says, is a nationally recognized system of measuring the energy performance of a home. Based on the results of his home energy analyses, customers can make improvements to their homes that will lower their monthly heating and cooling bills.

The Custom Climate Concepts owner says that a HERS home energy rating is the result comprehensive testing he or another certified rater conducts, and is the most in-depth energy performance assessment of a home that a homeowner can get. It measures the amount of air leaks in a home or building's "envelope," and where the leaks are located; he amount of leakage from heating, ventilation and air conditioning distribution ducts; the efficiency of insulation in its walls and ceilings; and any combustion safety issues, existing or potential.

To get a home's HERS index, Rodney Rupert conducts his home energy rating and then compares it to a reference home, which is a design modeled home that is the same size and shape of the home that is being evaluated. That, he says, means the HERS index is relative to the size, shape and type of home that is being tested, for the most accurate results. The lower the final number, the more energy efficient a home or building is.

But his principle work is co-owning and operating Custom Climate Concepts. Rodney Rupert says that he has built the company into a very reliable business with very competitive prices. He is especially proud of the fact that out of more than 13,300 customers, Custom Climate Concepts has had fewer than thirty complaints, which is an average of less than one percent of all customers.
