Daniel Behan - The Goal of Turn the Page Daniel Behan McQuaid is committed to equal educational opportunity for all children, and has demonstrated this commitment, time and again, through his involvement both as a public school educator at Elijah Parish Lovejoy Middle School, and as a devoted volunteer tutor at Turn the Page, a Rochester-based institution that focuses on providing illiterate children the instruction and assistance they need to learn and appreciate the value of reading and writing. The goal of the volunteers and organizers of Turn the Page, as Daniel Behan, is to help stem and reverse the trend of illiteracy throughout the region; to ensure that reading and writing is something that can be enjoyed by every child in the greater Rochester area, regardless of background or income level. As Turn the Page founders know, illiteracy is often one of the most devastating consequences of poverty, something that can impact impoverished children throughout a lifetime, limiting future educational and professional opportunities while helping to continue the cycle of poverty throughout yet another generation. Turn the Page volunteers, such as Daniel Behan McQuaid, work to provide no-cost tutoring to children in need, and aim to reach out and help those struggling to cope with an often difficult reality. Daniel Behan McQuaid, along with all Turn the Page volunteers, have extensive educational and professional backgrounds, and are highly qualified, experienced in and passionate about providing assistance to those in the most need. The opportunity to share their experience and expertise with illiterate children, and to empower kids with the gift of literature, language and more, is more than enough reward to the many dedicated Turn the Page volunteers; people who have a genuine interest in eliminating the scourge of illiteracy once and for all. Turn the Page not only provides in-need Rochester youth with no-cost, private tutoring and instruction, they also seek to make literature, both modern and classic, available and accessible to every member family. Turn the Page volunteers like Daniel Behan actively seek out donations of books, magazines and more, which they then make available to families and children throughout the region. This literature outreach program is an essential and integral part of the Turn the Page mission, and, to date, is responsible for the distribution of more than 10,000 works of literature to families throughout the local area. Daniel Behan McQuaid has been involved with the turn the Page program for more than 10 years, and hopes to one day see every child receive access to the same high-quality educational opportunities.
