Former Major General Michael Harrison: The Pershing Rifle Fraternity Former Major General Michael Harrison enjoyed a thirty-four year career in the United States Army before retiring from active duty in October of 2014. "I am an honorable American who has an abiding faith in duty, honor, family, and country," he says. "I am a strong believer in the Golden Rule, and work hard to practice that in everything that I do." Former Major General Michael Harrison attended the United States Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, where he received a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies. The purpose of the college, as he knows, is to educate and develop leaders for service at the strategic level. Former Major General Michael Harrison also attended graduate school at Central Michigan University, where he received a Master of Science degree in General Administration. He also holds an undergraduate degree from Howard University, where he studied English and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. While at Howard, Former Major General Michael Harrison was President of Company G-8 in the Pershing Rifle Fraternity, whose purpose is to foster a spirit of friendship and cooperation among its members, and to maintain an efficient drill company. It also promotes the highest degree of professionalism in all endeavors that its members undertake. Since his graduation, Former Major General Michael Harrison has maintained ties with Howard University. He has actively supported its ROTC program through mentorship and leadership lectures all through his military career. Now that he is out of the Army, Former Major General Michael Harrison is weighing his options in the private sector. He says that his ideal job, for now, would be to become an Executive Coach for an International firm. "My value to any organization," he says, "is that I know firsthand how to develop a vision, gain buy-in from the organization, and lead them to achieve that vision through shared effort." As to his long-term goals, Former Major General Michael Harrison says that he would one day like to become the President of a college of university. In that capacity he says he has the ability to inspire young men and women to extend themselves in learning and sharing knowledge, and in growing into being the best people that they can possibly be. Former Major General Michael Harrison is a native of Surry, Virginia. He entered the military in May of 1980. His final assignment was as a Major General, serving as the Director, Program Analysis and Evaluation, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, Headquarters, Department of the Army.
