When negotiating with the company, if you are frank about what you can and cannot afford you may be able to strike a deal, as long as it is within reason. Speaking to different companies gives you a wider idea about materials that can be used – what is cheaper than the other, and what is better quality, and most importantly what is most appropriate.

3. Don’t cut corners. There is no point paying so much money for a poor job, so you should not try to save money where you are advised not to as this will probably come back in a few years to haunt you. Ultimately, the builders will know what is best and it is usually quite obvious when someone is giving you a bad deal. It is not worth going risking the building.
