Ian Renner of Florida - Making a Difference in Your Community Ian Renner of Florida is a successful real estate investor with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. With a background in engineering, Renner has made waves in the real estate investment market and enjoys giving back to the community in which he owns several residential and commercial properties. In the past, Ian Renner of Florida has spent time working with a Non-governmental organization called “No Frontiers” building solar engineering projects in countries that remain underdeveloped, such as Honduras. While he greatly enjoyed his time volunteering abroad, Renner enjoys volunteering domestically with the organization, “Engineers Without Borders”. Engineers Without Borders-USA, founded in 2002, serves in a domestic capacity on numerous levels. Supporting community initiated development programs worldwide, the EWB-USA collaborates with partners locally to design and implement engineering projects. With nearly 15,000 members, the organization works with communities in need to find solutions for information systems, agriculture, sanitation, structures, energy, and water supply. Some of the more recent projects Renner assisted with included providing model sanitation solutions to isolated homes and assisting a community where several public building flooded on a regular basis. Communities interested in working with Engineers Without Borders-USA must meet certain criteria, one of which being, collectively having limited resources with the inability to finance engineering solutions on their own. For the purpose of the EWB-USA, a community is broadly defined to include many members that may require assistance. This could be the homeless who uses specific homeless shelter that needs renovation, municipalities, or members or a community garden. Ian Renner of Florida is a devoted husband and father of two children. He says that he puts great value on teaching his children to use their talents and interest to help those in need and chooses to teach this by example. “If I tell them how I think they should live, but show them nothing of substance in my own life, what kind of example would I be? They will grow up knowing the value of a good education, and with generous hearts. I could not ask for much more.” Renner believes that everyone can make a difference when they apply themselves and find a good volunteer match for their skills. Volunteering should be an enjoyable endeavor. Renner says of his latest project that, “Reaching out to others and improving their lives gives a kind of fulfillment that cannot always be obtained in the everyday routine. There is something to be said for taking the time to help those that may otherwise be overlooked. I have been very lucky, and I really want to share that with others.”
