James Sharer says that he wants to become a doctor so that he can dedicate his life to helping those in need. He has worked as a lifeguard, has helped children with their studies by tutoring them, and has been a coach for children in sports. James Sharer was a member of the National Honors Society as a high school student.

He is a member of the Biology Club there, and is also a member of the Rules and Regulations Committee for THON at the Penn State Main Campus. James Sharer was a varsity swimmer throughout his years at Downingtown West High School, where he was also a member of the National Honors Society.
