Peter Virden: An Avid Fisherman Peter Virden works at FC&E Engineering in Jackson, Mississippi, where he is a Senior Environmental Manager. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned degrees in chemical and petroleum engineering, and of Loyola University, where he received his law degree. "I am an educated, experienced, hard working professional focused on quality results through efficient work processes," he says. Peter Virden has always been fully committed to whatever project he undertakes. He completed his law studies at Loyola while holding down a full time job and caring for two young children. Now his children are pursuing careers of their own. His daughter works at an advertising firm in Columbia, Missouri, and his son is a music and education student at St. Louis Community College. This leaves Peter Virden with a little more free time than he has had in the past. He grew up with a great love and respect for the outdoors, and he has never abandoned that. One of his favorite leisure activities if exploring the natural beauty of the Magnolia State. Mississippi is blessed with twenty-four state parks, six national forests, and numerous wildlife refuges, and each offers miles of hiking trails and great natural beauty. Hiking, backpacking, boating and camping are popular among outdoor enthusiasts like Peter Virden, as well as mountain biking; the state has abundant natural resources and something for the novice through the advanced cyclist. But Peter Virden's favorite outdoor activity is fishing, and Mississippi's state and national land has some truly incredible fishing lakes, which he loves to take advantage of. People who don't fish are sometimes puzzled by the attraction of casting a baited line into the water and then waiting for the fish to bite. Sometimes they don't bite, but fisherman like Peter Virden have been known to say that a bad day of fishing is always better than a good day elsewhere. And yet fishing enthusiasts can be hard pressed to put the experience into words. Many say that they just like being outdoors, no matter how the fishing goes. Others say they like to eat fish, and catching their own makes it that much more an enjoyable experience. Still others say that fishing is an enjoyable activity that can be passed down father to son or father to daughter; some of their best memories, in fact, may be linked to fishing with a parent when they were children.
