Susan M. Taylor_Retired Federal Government Employee Susan M. Taylor worked for the United States federal government for 29 years before retiring as the Chief Deputy Procurement Officer of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As the Chief Deputy Procurement Officer, she worked with procurement officers around the country to procure the best supplies and services for hundreds of veterans’ hospitals nationwide. Through her work, the Department of Veterans Affairs has provided thousands of veterans with the medical, surgical, and mental health services they need after returning from combat overseas. Taylor helped run the department during the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, during which many veterans came home with many issues. Taylor helped them get the services they need. Susan M. Taylor also worked as the Director of Contracts for Ginnie Mae, an affordable housing agency that provides mortgages that families can use to buy the home of their dreams. The agency helps families find the most affordable housing options. Taylor developed her extensive acquisition management experience at Ginnie Mae. She moved up to the Pentagon as the Associate Director of Contracting. She was responsible for overseeing and managing operational matters for many divisions in the Contracting Directorate, which was accountable for over $1 billion in annual purchases for the Department of Defense and the Army within the Contract Administration Division, the TriCare Health Services Division, and the Purchase Card Program. She used her acquisition management skills and experience to oversee acquisition strategies and improve the procurement process. During her time at the Pentagon, Taylor managed the internal controls and helped with the development of the increased usage of the purchase card as a payment method to increase rebates. After four years as the Associate Director of Contracting for the Pentagon, Susan M. Taylor became the Director of Procurement and Senior Advisor for Acquisition Management for the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation. The PBGC is a federal agency created by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act to protect the pension benefits in the private sector pension funds for employees. These pension plans are called defined benefit plans. PBGC cuts pension checks to 44 million retirees from a variety of private sector jobs around the country. Her efforts contributed to millions of retirement pension dollars found their way to the pockets of the people who have earned them. Susan M. Taylor lives in the Washington, DC area.
