Thomas Huling’s Advice for Leaders Thomas Huling knows that there are new leaders everyday stepping into the business world. Some of these young entrepreneurs do not quite know how to fulfill their role of leadership. Thomas Huling has been in a leadership position for many years and gives advice on how to become a better leader. Maintaining eye contact during a conversation is critical in leadership. There are many who will find eye contact uncomfortable, but as a leader, they should be able to keep eye contact with the person who is speaking to them. When a leader gives eye contact to someone who is speaking, they are giving respect to them and communicating confidence as a leader. There are many who feel under experienced or too young to be a leader but are in a leadership position and thus do not keep eye contact as they should. Thomas Huling notes that confidence is seen through people’s eyes and recommends those people to focus on the area just above, below or between the eyes to help keep a constant eye contact. Though is may be uncomfortable at first, it is a good communication device to have, and it will benefit a leader, in the long run. There are some leaders who believe that he who has the loudest voice demands the most respect. Thomas Huling believes this to be a false pretense. It is better to communicate through a consistently even conversational tone when discussing something with a person. Raising the volume of the tone of voice may come off as unapproachable and bossy. This would make many employees anxious whenever their leader walks by. On the opposite side, speaking too weakly, as if a whisper, employees may see this and a lack of confidence and employees will walk all over them. Speaking in a firm yet approachable conversation tone is best for a leader.

Listening is one of the greatest things any leader can do. As a leader in a plethora of companies, Thomas Huling knows the importance of listening to his employees. Their ideas, concerns and words are worth listening to because they may speak truth that will benefit the company as a whole. Although a leader should have no need to be ready and available at a moment’s notice to listen to an employee, however, they should make themselves available for appointments. Thomas Huling has been a leader of multiple companies for many years and has great experience as a leader.
