Tom Forlander: Skiing Tips Proper Clothing One of the best and the worst parts of Colorado is the weather, as Tom Forlander knows. This is why he offers a few tips for newbies. It is best to prepare for the weather with layers, having multiple shirts, sweaters and jackets to easily put on or take off will go a long way for any visitor. Having sunglasses is great, but while skiing goggles would be best in the situation, leaving no room for the sun to sneak around and creep into the eyes. It can be sunny and high 60s, and within an hour or two, the temperature drops drastically, winds pick up and its suddenly 20 degrees colder and raining. With the weather not too consistent, plan for the worst, and be happy that you did. Altitude Sickness For many Floridians and other travelers in general, the altitude can be hard to handle. It seems like half the visitors from lower elevated areas struggle with altitude illness in some way. Resting is often what is best for treating forms of altitude illness but the cure of this most of the time is patience. Fatigue, lack of appetite, shortness of breath after very little energy spent, nausea, constant headaches and sleep trouble are symptoms many face because of the altitude. Of all the ski resorts, Breckenridge Resort in Colorado was Will's personal favorite to appease his snow skiing needs. Sunburn Many people do not realize that because of the thinner atmosphere and the reflection of snow or water while skiing or hiking, sunburns are more common. Making sure the face, lips, and any exposed skin are all covered properly with sunscreen is of utmost importance. The body sometimes takes its time to acclimate to the difference of temperature, and should be completely done in four to five days. Like many Floridians, Tom Forlander often fled to the mountains of Colorado to ski down mountain slopes. He was once an avid skier living in the low altitude of Florida. Having clothing that is breathable or made with smart technology to keep the body dry and away from moisture on the skin will pay off when the body is regulating its temperature. The ultraviolet light, which causes sunburns, has an increase in power because of the thinner air in the higher altitudes. Having been multiple times to the beautiful mountainous state of Colorado, he learned travel tips for Floridians or any who are interested in traveling to the popular resort and escape the heat of the southeast.
