The Fuddy Collective & inFurnace Theatre Presents:

3

The anticipation of spring is akin to the practice of theatre, in those moments just before you begin work on a new production. It is a time of hope, full of potential. Eventually reality will unfold; bringing better or worse than anticipated, with the wholeness of it not perceivable until it is over. Until that reality imposes itself however, all is possible. It is a feeling that can also be shared by an audience; in those moments between the request to turn off your phone, and the lights coming up and the first gesture/word offered. We at QDF hope this calendar will lead you to works that take you from holding your breath through to a cathartic exhale.

“Random don’t happen to everybody. So how come ‘random’ have to happen to him?” Using dub poetry and spoken word, this tale of love and loss crosses cultural lines and is universally powerful.

The Dumb Waiter DW By Harold Pinter Produced by Theatre Esperance Directed by Andreja Kovač and Alison Darcy Set & Costume Design by Elahe Marjovi Lighting Design by Jody Burkholder Sound Design by Nikita U Carpenter Steve Schön Stage Manager Katherine Hagemeyer Starring James Loye & Howard Rosenstein

The Dumb Waiter is possibly the best of Pinter ‘s early plays, and is as clear an example of a weasel in the china cabinet as ever there was. Two working class hit men await their instructions in the windowless basement of a seemingly deserted rooming house in the outskirts of Birmingham.

Dancing Grandmothers

Festival TransAmériques The new artistic director of the FTA, Martin Faucher announces four exciting and eagerly awaited shows that will be part of the ninth edition of the Festival Transamériques, to be held from May 21 to June 4, 2015. Festivalgoers already thrilled about the return to Montreal of Alain Platel and the Ballets C de la B and their presentation of TAUBERBACH will be equally enthusiastic about the performances announced: deliciously delightful Korean grandmothers, an astringent TARTUFFE by the Schaubühne from Berlin plus new works by Nadia Ross and Olivier Choinière. View video excerpts of these shows on our website: fta.qc.ca As always with the FTA, this is very contemporary theatre and dance, reflecting the here and now.

Antigone AN By Sophocles, translated by Lynn Kozak Produced by Department of Theatre at Concordia University Directed by Andreas Apergis After the Theban civil war, where the sons of Oedipus have died fighting each other for the throne, King Kreon decides to honour one of the brothers with burial rites and leave the other to rot on the battle field, unmourned. Antigone, their surviving sister, challenges Kreon’s edict, claiming she follows the gods whose authority is beyond the state’s rule. Director Andreas Apergis will be setting his version of the play in desolated Montreal, highlighting the timely themes for a contemporary audience.
