ETHIOPIAN

ቋንዛ/KWANZAA AND XMAS FAST

Ethiopian Kwanzaa combines December 24th and 25th (Babylon Christmas) and Kwanzaa (December 26th thru January 1 st) and extends it to January 2nd thru January 6th in the observance of the Ethiopian Christmas Fast (Dec. 24th to Jan. 6th). The ten virtues of science, seven Afrikan principles, and wise sayings are used so we will have an idea to reflect on for each day.

Ethiopian ገና/Ganna/Christmas is on January 7th and they fast at least fourteen days before the celebration [fasting prepares one for the feast]. Fasting consists of praying, thinking only about that which is good and useful, giving to those less fortunate, doing good works and abstaining from eating animal products (eating fruits and vegetables). Any fish that have fins and scales can be eaten during fasting, however, devout Ethiopians abstain from fish also. Fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans, grains are preferred, and there are many vegan products on the market that can be substituted for meat. It is important to abstain from eating during the morning, at least until afternoon. This here serious militant, nation-building and revolutionary soulJah style self-discipline in honor of the reason for the season the birth of መድኃኒ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ/Medhane Eeyesus Kristos [our Saviour Jesus Christ].
