SIJ@CARE (Centre of Activity & Recreation For The Elders) The Joys & Thrills of IT and The Internet For Senior Citizens How their lives can be significantly enriched and enhanced By Harry Lo
Venue: Centre Of Activitity & Recreation for the Elders
Blk 531 Upper Cross Street #04-40A S050531 Date of Free Public Talk: Sunday, 29 August 2010
About the speaker - Harry Lo, himself a senior citizen, has been engaged in teaching IT for more than 20 years. He has been fully involved with teaching IT to senior citizens and understands the need for patience and gentle hands-holding in conducting his lessons. He is also a PC builder and troubleshooter, helping his friends and others to restore their PCs to working condition and maintain them to defend against virus and malware attacks. He surfs the internet for hours every day and collects many free but useful applications to get things done such as utilities to clean up and optimize PC, photo management and editing, conversion of videos and music from one format to another and transfer to hand phones and MP4 or MP5 players. He believes in sharing and is more than willing to show how these wonderful applications can be downloaded from the internet for free. Synopsis – IT has by now become a way of life for everyone, more so for senior citizens who have retired or are in the process of retiring from work. There appears to be no lack of desire in learning IT and surfing the internet. The benefits are obvious: 1. Acquiring of skills and knowledge 2. Free entertainment in music and movies on the internet, instant communication and social networking with emailing, messaging and Facebook among friends and relatives locally or overseas and easy access to Government websites and banks to complete transactions. Life becomes more fulfilling and satisfying and mental health is promoted. This is the most important outcome of involvement in IT and Internet for senior citizens.
