Letter from the City Manager
Connect with Colton Check out the City of Colton Connection catalog, which details summer programs that keep kids engaged, connected, active and focused on expanding their horizons! Colton programs offer lots of choices, safe and inviting environments, and the chance for children to develop strong bonds with their community. Kids get their fill of thrills through sports; showcase their talents through the arts; reap the rewards of volunteerism; invigorate their imaginations through creative play; explore the outdoors through nature programs; and have adventures galore. All while making friends and lifelong memories. Summer is the perfect time to bring people together by nurturing a healthy development that helps young people grow up confident, caring and responsible.
So many wonderful things have happened in Colton since my arrival just short on one year ago and I continue to be honored through the many volunteers and employees of the City of Colton each day. Have a great time enjoying the special events prepared by the Community Services Employees, be safe and enjoy the summer! Stephen P. Compton, City Manager

Letter from the City Manager
Summer was designed to give kids a break from school and help them try new experiences and grow mentally, physically and socially. Whether your child wants to refine a sports skill, get creative, be in a play, learn magic, play classic and electronic games, or explore the great outdoors, Colton has something to offer and “Connect” you to play. Check out the 31 Days of Play on pages 24-25 and help celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month.

City of Colton Community Services Department
Staff Spotlight Welcome to the Community Services Department "Staff Spotlight" where a different staff member is featured in each issue. These special staff members are recognized for their daily contributions to our department and for their commitment to the Colton Community.
meet Thomas Robles Thomas has worked for the Community Services Department since July 2008 when he began as a lifeguard at the tender age of 16. However, Thomas’ Colton roots are much deeper than a mere six years of employment with the City of Colton. He is a Colton native, a Colton High School Alumnus, and an active community participant. Additionally, he has the unique point-of-view of being an active participant in Recreation programs as a youth at the Gonzales Center and he was a VolunTEEN in the program’s second year.
One of Thomas’ the best characteristics is his eager willingness to engage participants in any way necessary, whether it’s wearing a cape, singing a song, dressing as Flynn Rider, or just having a conversation, he does it with style. Thomas’ charismatic personality isn’t just limited to his work hours; off work he’s a talented longtime Mexican Folklorico dancer, an actor, singer, cartoon artist, and student. We look forward to Thomas’ future success and appreciate his dedication to the Colton Community.
Stop by one of our locations for a free, nutritious afternoon snack.

In the six years of his employment, Thomas has transitioned from a youngster in his first job to a seasoned Senior Recreation Leader who is a leader amongst other Recreation employees. His consistently positive demeanor and outgoing personality make him highly requested by youth, teen, and senior participants. Thomas’s strong work ethic, willingness to listen and improve, and consistent desire to provide the highest level of service possible, make him a stellar employee, which is further demonstrated in the frequency in which he is praised, directly by name, by participants in evaluations and surveys.
