WELCOME TO 2015
DON’T MISS Unbroken
And welcome to the second edition of QUAD’s new quarterly brochure with films and events from January to March.
Screening from 27th December USA 2014 137 mins Dir: Angelina Jolie
Part of our job is to inspire and throughout this upcoming period we have many films, exhibitions, events and courses which will help you get your new year off to an exciting and thought provoking start. Customers may have already noticed QUAD has moved to flexible cinema programming, which means we are not including day-to-day listings in the brochure but are producing the film screening times on a weekly basis.
QUAD patron and Derby actor Jack O’Connell takes the lead in the second feature film from director Angelina Jolie. This is the tale of the late Louis Zamperini, Olympic champion, who was shot down and captured by Japanese forces in World War II. Life in the concentration camp is hard for the former Olympic hero, and a battle of wills emerges between Louis and his warden Mutsushiro Watanabe. With Luke Treadaway (Attack The Block), Jai Courtney (Die Hard 5), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) and Domhnall Gleeson (About Time).
From QUAD’s operational point of view this flexible programming has given us the opportunity to respond to customer demand on films like Northern Soul, Pride and Mr. Turner by extending the runs of these films; as a result QUAD has had both the highest cinema audiences for October since opening and a 10% year-on-year increase in sales. We would like to thank you for supporting us during this period and to bear with us while we try to make as many adjustments to support customers as possible. We have taken on board both positive and negative feedback and where possible we have found other ways of communicating with you, such as sending weekly listings to all local libraries. We strive to make art, film and creative digital media more accessible to all and aim to share our passion and belief that they can change people’s lives for the better. As always we welcome any feedback on any of QUAD’s activities. Adam Buss, QUAD CEO Flexible programming means we are not always advertising screening dates for many of our films. We would like to recommend that the best way to find out when films are going on sale is to sign up for the free QUAD e-flyer, sent out every Tuesday, with films times and a reminder of upcoming or recently announced and one-off events. For those not online, please phone QUAD Box Office for a recorded message of the weeks’ screening times, or pick up a printed copy from QUAD Box Office or your local library.

13th March – 12th April 2015 FORMAT is the UK’s most significant biennale of photography taking place throughout Derby and curated around the theme of EVIDENCE. Every two minutes, we take as many photos as the entirety of humanity took during the 1800s. On a daily basis, we use photography to record our lives, routines, friends and encounters. Millions of seemingly insignificant moments are recorded and shared online, creating inconclusive portraits of individuals, places and events. Through a selection of the best of international photography in a diverse programme of exhibitions and events FORMAT will make sense of our complex world and its connection to EVIDENCE and photography, in a multitude of inspiring ways. The seventh edition of FORMAT Festival takes place between 13th March and 12th April 2015 FORMAT: Evidence will feature over 200 photographers, guest curators, interactive installations and diverse events, making the historic city of Derby once again the place to discover new and innovative photographic and lens based projects from around the world. EXHIBITIONS
ADVENTURE SEASON TALKS & EVENTS Movement & Perception Until 8th February 2015, QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces
Artists: Kylie Benjamin, Rob Burton, GÂST, Steven Ingman, Flora Kay, Melissa Sheffield, Pierce Starre & Ned Wilson
A SEASON OF ADVENTURE Inspired by the spirit of discovery and celebrating the pioneers who break new ground through science, exploration and new technologies, QUAD’s Season of Adventure includes exhibitions, digital experimentation, talks, events, film screenings and educational activities that journey into the art of exploration.
80°N by Gibson/Martelli Until 8th February 2015 QUAD Gallery
QUAD presents a trilogy of works by artists Gibson/Martelli. 80°N is the result of a four year research project that centers on Arctic exploration. The 80° North parallel is the line of latitude where the Polar region begins. The Gibson/Martelli trilogy considers this navigational concept from three different perspectives.
Crop Up Gallery, collaborating with QUAD for the first time, is a student-run curatorial team based at the University of Nottingham. Taking their enterprising spirit out of their home city, the team has created a project that celebrates the Midlands through both its artists and subject matter.
Movement & Perception is an exhibition that holds indeterminacy at its heart, with Crop Up providing each artist with a set of coordinates on a map and an open invitation to explore that area. The artworks on display present each artist’s reaction to their own journey, as this show examines our ability to map the world around us, venture through it and describe that experience.
80°N includes three works: In Search of Abandoned presents a vision of a non-place ‘discovered’ in the Arctic Circle on Google maps during Martelli’s residency in Svalbard. The artists built a computer generated world using height map data and game engine technology; the resulting 3D stereoscopic experience brings together an imagined view of place and an experience of one. White Island re-imagines S. A. Andrée’s doomed Polar balloon expedition of 1897, allowing visitors to soar over a virtual version of Kvitøya (White Island) in the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean created for Oculus Rift. In Perfect Circle a 100-year-old sailing boat, Noorderlicht, makes a 360° turn in an attempt to describe a perfect circle in the sea.
Displaying new work produced by regional artists in response to this brief, Movement & Perception also seeks to document the means through which we navigate the subjective and varying natures of human experience. The exhibition invites viewers to actively work their way through the display in QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces.
80°N by Gibson/Martelli is produced in association with QUAD, commissioned by Arts Council England and CAFKA14 - with generous sponsorship from Christie Digital & WorldViz. www.gibsonmartelli.com

UK 1924 85 mins Dir: Captain John Noel
“The third attempt to climb Everest culminated in the deaths of two of the finest climbers of their generation, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, and sparked an on-going debate over whether or not they did indeed reach the summit. Filming in brutally harsh conditions with a hand cranked camera, Captain John Noel captured images of breathtaking beauty and considerable historic significance. The film is also among the earliest filmed records of life in Tibet and features sequences at Phari Dzong (Pagri), Shekar Dzong (Xeger) and Rongbuk monastery. But what resonates so deeply is Noel’s ability to frame the vulnerability, isolation and courage of people persevering in one of the world’s harshest landscapes. The restoration by the BFI National Archive has transformed the quality of the surviving elements of the film and reintroduced the original coloured tints and tones. Revealed by the restoration, few images in cinema are as epic – or moving – as the final shots of a blood red sunset over the Himalayas. A newly commissioned score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Simon Fisher Turner (The Great White Silence) features a haunting combination of electronic music, found sounds, western and Nepalese instruments and vocals”. – BFI

Beyond Evidence An incomplete narrative of photographic truths 13 March – 7 June 2015, QUAD Gallery
Featuring: Larry Sultan & Mike Mandel, Yann Mingard, Andrea Botto, Thomas Keenan & Eyal Weizman, Mishka Henner, Thomas Mailaender, Simon Menner, Regine Petersen, LA-X Collection Klaus Weidner, Tiane Doan na Champassak, Sara-Lena Maierhofer, Lukas Einsele, Miti Ruangkritya, Giorgio Di Noto, Tiphanie Mall, João Pina, Cristina De Middel, Natasha Caruana, Murray Ballard, Edmund Clark, Arianna Arcara & Luca Santese, Stéphanie Solinas and Werker Magazine with Mohamed Bousouf. For the 2015 edition of FORMAT Festival the main exhibition at QUAD Gallery takes its cue from the legendary work Evidence by Larry Sultan and Mike Mandel from 1977. The show curated by Lars Willumeit and Louise Clements presents a diversity of contemporary artistic positions that all use their own visual strategies to explore, question and undermine our preconceptions of evidence and its use within the medium of photography, art and visual culture. The exhibition features a wide range of fascinating international artists whose works interrogate the relationship between image and knowledge. Throughout the show artists remind us that not only does the camera test our ability to trust, but more fundamentally it provokes us to question how we determine the truth, beyond reasonable doubt, when photographic representation inherently instils within us through the history of documentary, a notion of trust. The scope of visual narratives in the investigations by the artists who look at the production of evidence, bring into view the tensions between probability and truth, between authenticity and doubt. In Beyond Evidence we invite audiences to explore this territory and indulge in a wonderful combination of works from the archive to contemporary installation all exploring the complexity and ideas of evidence.

FORMAT Photoforum: “ DENCH Yourself”
Tuesday 6th January, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Tuesday 3rd February, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Laura Pannack joins us for our first Photoforum session of the New Year. Laura is an award-winning photographer who focuses on social documentary and portraiture, and seeks to explore the complex relationship between subject and photographer.
Join us for an unmissable edition of Photoforum with the awardwinning photographer Peter Dench. The University of Derby graduate returns to the city to deliver a typically entertaining talk which offers an insight into his practice, advice on producing long-term reportage projects and on how to survive as a modern photographer. Paul Hill MBE will lead a Q&A with Peter Dench at the end of the session.
A firm believer that “time, trust and understanding is the key to portraying subjects truthfully”, Laura’s approach allows genuine connections to be made between herself and those she photographs, and her projects often develop over several years. In this illustrated artist talk, Pannack will discuss her past and current projects, share her experiences and take part in a Q&A led by Photoforum host Paul Hill MBE. Pannack recently achieved the John Kobal New Work Award from the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2014 and her work has been extensively exhibited and published both in the UK and internationally. www.laurapannack.com Cost: £5, £4 concessions, QUAD members
Dench achieved a World Press Photo Award in the People in the News Stories category and participated in the World Press Joop Masterclass. Solo exhibitions include ‘LoveUK’ in Cardiff, UK and ‘England Uncensored’ at the 2011 Visa pour l’Image fesitval of photojournaliam in France and the Periscopio festival, Spain. In 2010, Dench was placed 2nd in Advertising at the Sony World Photography Awards. www.peterdench.com Cost: £5, £4 concessions, QUAD members
FILMS Duke Of Burgundy UK 2014 Dir: Peter Strickland
American Sniper USA 2014 Dir: Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood is back behind the camera after last year’s surprise hit Jersey Boys rejuvenated the director. Here he is directing Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook), playing a Navy S.E.A.L who is looking back over his military career, a career that includes over 150 confirmed kills. With Sienna Miller and Kyle Gallner.
Au Revoir Les Enfants
S
Birdman USA 2014 119 mins Dir: Alejandro González Iñárritu
France 1987 104 mins Dir: Louis Malle
“One of the great movies about World War Two and the German Occupation, this semi-autobiographical film, set in January 1944 at an exclusive Catholic boarding school outside Fontainebleau, is the key work Malle waited 42 years to make. This richly detailed, immaculately acted film traces the friendship between two 12-year-olds, one from a wealthy Catholic family through whose eyes the events are seen, the other a Jewish boy hidden by the priests, his identity concealed. It’s a movie about childhood, friendship, betrayal, and how to understand a confused world. The priests are neither mocked nor turned into plaster saints; Nazism and anti-Semitism are seen as evil, but the German occupiers are not demonised.” - Philip French, The Guardian
Birdman is a hugely inventive black comedy that tells the story of actor Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton), famous for once portraying an iconic superhero, as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. When one of the actors is injured in rehearsals, the lead actress (Naomi Watts) brings in her lover, Mike (Edward Norton), an egotistical ‘method’ actor whose actions threaten to disrupt an already unstable production. Superbly directed by Iñárritu, the film’s structure is based on several long takes that are seamlessly edited to give the appearance of one continuous shot, spanning several days. Shot by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, The Tree of Life), the camera twists and turns around the maze-like corridors of the Broadway theatre at a whirlwind pace, all the time propelled by Antonio Sanchez’s original drum score. Endlessly creative, often hilarious and featuring a career-best performance from Keaton, Birdman is a unique satire and a feast for both the eyes and the mind.
Peter Strickland follows up Berbarian Sound Studio with this 19th century erotic drama about a butterfly professor, Cynthia and her lover Evelyn. A singular vision, this is beautifully filmed and exquisitely performed story which follows a ritualistic sado–masochistic role play that starts to unravel when Cynthia, the strict dom, begins to yearn for a more conventional relationship. “Channelling the early ‘70s eroticism of Jess Franco and the ‘passionate agony’ (as Susan Sontag put it) of Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, Strickland creates a decadent, finely calibrated universe that is as sensually and cinematically distinctive as it is funny and true.” - BFI
A Most Violent Year USA 2014 125 mins Dir: J C Chandor
J C Chandor follows his tale of one man on a boat (All Is Lost) with this sprawling crime drama set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history. Focusing on the lives of an immigrant (Oscar Isaac), his wife (Jessica Chastain) and his family; who are trying to build their business and capitalise on opportunities as the violence and corruption of every day tries to bring them down.
Beyond Clueless
Big Eyes
UK 2014 89 mins Dir: Charlie Lyne
USA 2014 Dir: Tim Burton
Narrated by cult teen star Fairuza Balk, Beyond Clueless is a dizzying journey into the mind, body and soul of the teen movie, as seen through the eyes of over 200 modern coming-of-age classics. With a score by Summer Camp, come take a trip back to high school. “While the analysis traverses the terrain of teen identity, sex, hierarchy and groupthink, the film feels as light and enjoyable as any teen movie” – Sight and Sound. See P19 for more films in our ‘Teens Rule OK!’ Season.
Tim Burton returns to the type of film-making that garnered him Oscar nominations for Ed Wood back in the early ‘90s with this drama based around the life of painter Margaret Keane. Keane (played by Amy Adams) had phenomenal success with her distinctive paintings featuring characters with large eyes, the film follows her through this period and into the 1960s when her husband tried to claim credit for the works. Christoph Waltz plays Walter Keane with support from Jason Schwartzman, Danny Huston and Terence Stamp.
Electricity UK 2014 96 mins Dir: Bryn Higgins
Duck Soup
Enemy
USA 1933 68 mins Dir: Leo McCarey
Canada/Spain 2013 90 mins Dir: Denis Villeneuve
Possibly the greatest of the Marx Brothers films, Duck Soup is a satirical quick fire comedy as you would expect from the wise cracking Groucho, the mute Harpo and the dim witted Chico. It was their final film for Paramount Studios and was the pinnacle of their film career. Rufus T Firefly (Groucho) is placed as president of the small state Freedonia and when inept spies from the neighbouring state are send to spy, chaos ensues!
After his amazing performance in one of 2014’s best films Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal kicks off 2015 with this mystery/thriller that sees him tracking down his doppelganger, who he spots in a low rent movie. Obsessed with meeting him, he tracks the actor down in Toronto, and their lives become intertwined as they get to know each other.
After its triumphant world premiere at the London Film Festival in October, Electricity arrives on QUAD screens. The film is anchored by a strong central performance by Agyness Deyn as a young woman with epilepsy searching for her lost brother. Witty and visually compelling, the film follows her search, as she battles against people around her and her own illness fighting to kill her. Based on the novel by Derbyshire writer Ray Robinson.
“Chicolini here may talk like an idiot, and look like an idiot, but don’t let that fool you: he really is an idiot.” - Groucho

Inherent Vice
Love Is Strange
Mortdecai
UK/USA 2014 108 mins Dir: Alex Garland
USA 2015 Dir: Paul Thomas Anderson
USA 2014 94 mins Dir: Ira Sachs
USA 2015 Dir: David Koepp
Paul Thomas Anderson follows his Oscar Nominated masterpiece The Master with this ambitious adaption of the Thomas Pynchon novel. This noir crime-drama follows detective Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) as he investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend and delves into the strange, weird and sometimes funny world of Los Angeles circa 1970. With Jena Malone, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Maya Rudolph and Owen Wilson.
Ira Sachs latest film Love is Strange, which he both directed and co-wrote, feels like a career high point. It stars John Lithgow as Ben, a retired painter, and Alfred Molina as George, a music teacher, who get married after being together for 39 years, which leads to George being fired from his job at a Catholic school. Forced to sell their New York co-op that they can no longer afford, they are temporarily homeless and must rely on the kindness of friends and relatives. While struggling with the pain of separation, Ben and George also have to deal with the intergenerational tensions and erratic family dynamics of their new digs. Marisa Tomei is excellent as a reluctant family member and frustrated writer.
Johnny Depp turns his eye to comedy in this tale of art dealer Charles Mortdecai and his quest to recover a stolen painting armed only with his good looks and charm. Crossing angry Russians, MI5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, Mortdecai is trying to recover the painting that contains the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold. With Ewan McGregor, Gwyneth Paltrow, Aubrey Plaza and Olivia Munn.
Writer Alex Garland (Dredd) steps behind the camera for this smart sci-fi tale of a young programmer Caleb, who is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence. He arrives at a private mountain retreat where he finds he must interact with the world’s first true AI, housed in the body of a beautiful robot woman. Domhnall Gleeson plays Caleb alongside Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Alicia Vikander (Testament Of Youth).
Suite Francaise
UK 2014 130 mins Dir: James Kent
Vera Brittain’s classic memoir - the first part of a trilogy - is such an important book, both for its vivid portrayal of a generation lost to war and as a woman’s account of her life in a time of tumultuous change. This is a faithfully rendered interpretation following Vera (Alicia Vikander) from her teenage years as an academically ambitious teenager in pre-WWI England, horsing around with her brother and his school friends, through to the shattering impact the war has on all of their lives, their dreams and their futures. There is stellar acting talent on display from a uniformly excellent cast, including Dominic West, Emily Watson, Hayley Atwell and Miranda Richardson. A poignant and heartfelt depiction of grief and loss.
S
France 2014 108 mins Dir: Saul Dibb
Foxcatcher USA 2014 134 mins Dir: Bennett Miller
Moneyball and Capote director Bennett Miller brings to the screen the true story of Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum), an Olympic wrestler whose relationship with key sponsor John du Pont (Steve Carell) and his brother Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) was a tumultuous one. Winner of the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, Foxcatcher is one of the key films of the awards season.
Testament Of Youth
Into The Woods USA 2015 125 mins Dir: Rob Marshall
Based on the incredibly popular stage musical by Stephen Sondheim, Into The Woods tells the tale of a witch teaching lessons to the various characters of popular children’s stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel. Chicago director Rob Marshall leads an all star cast featuring Anna Kendrick (Cinderella), Johnny Depp (The Wolf), Meryl Streep (The Witch), Chris Pine (Cinderella’s Prince), Emily Blunt (The Baker’s Wife) and many more.
Suite Française is based on the wartime memoirs of Irène Némirovsky, which, after they were rediscovered in 1998, quickly became a publishing sensation. Némirovsky’s notes, written during the Occupation of France, recount her relationship with a refined German officer in a classic story of lovers kept apart by the inconvenience of war. In this new adaptation, director Saul Dibb (The Duchess) succeeds in recreating the tone of the novel, bringing both great emotion and the wider scope of history. Set in 1944, in a small town in Northern France, Lucille Angellier (Michelle Williams) lives unhappily with her controlling mother in law (Kristin Scott Thomas) as they wait for news of their POW husband and son.
Selma USA 2014 Dir: Ava DuVernay
This film follows the events around the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams and Martin Luther King. David Oyelowo (Interstellar) plays the legendary Civil Rights leader MLK with support from Tim Roth, Carmen Ejogo, Giovanni Ribisi, Alessandro Nivola, Oprah Winfrey and Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon B. Johnson.
The Theory Of Everything UK 2014 123 mins Dir: James Marsh
The director of Man On Wire and Shadow Dancer bridges the gap between documentary and fiction with this excellent biopic of Stephen and Jane Hawking. Based on the book by Jane Hawking, Eddie Redmayne brings the iconic physicist to life with Felicity Jones playing Jane, and the two are excellent in their roles. “Redmayne towers: this is an astonishing, genuinely visceral performance that bears comparison with Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot” – The Guardian

The high-profile trial first makes headlines with the unlikely pairing of Ted Olson and David Boies, political foes who last faced off as opposing attorneys in Bush v. Gore. The film also follows the plaintiffs, two gay couples who find their families at the centre of the same-sex marriage controversy. Five years in the making, this is the story of how they took the first federal marriage equality lawsuit to the U.S. Supreme Court. Tickets £5
Whiplash USA 2014 107 mins Dir: Damien Chazelle
This multi-award winner at the Sundance Film Festival, Whiplash is unconventional and hard to describe, but its detailed performances, use of music and percussive editing lead to a devastating emotional punch. The film stars rising actor Miles Teller as a promising drummer, starting out at the prestigious Schaffer Conservatory in New York, with a head full of dreams to become the new Buddy Rich. His development is in the hands of Fletcher (the ever excellent J. K. Simmons), one of the school’s principal teachers, who drives his students towards high achievement through unorthodox and unforgiving methods.

Friday 13th February at 8:50pm Japan 2004 140 mins Dir: Yoichi Sai
Saturday 14th February at 3:45pm Japan 1966 89 mins Dir: Seijun Suzuki
In this epic fresco, Sai explores social history through one man, a Korean emigrant to 1920s Japan, who works his way up to head a small criminal empire. Sai’s brilliant recreation of a vanished community raises difficult questions about Korean-Japanese identity. A virtual companion piece to Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s The Puppetmaster, Sai’s epic fresco uses the biography of one man as a key to an entire social history. Kim Shun-Pei emigrates from Jeju Island in Korea (a Japanese colony at the time) to Osaka as a young man in 1923. A lifelong fear of poverty meshes with his compulsive womanising, as well as his capacity for violence, to make him a monster as he moves from initial success with a fish-cake business to heading a small criminal empire as a loan shark. International Film Festival Rotterdam
An interesting variant on Bizet’s Carmen from acclaimed director Seijun Suzuki, this experimental film tells of young Karumen, who leaves home after being gang-raped by thugs from school. She goes to Osaka, where men fall at her feet when she becomes a nightclub singer. The film is shot variously in black-and-white, red-and-white, blue-and-white, etc., depending on the scene. With some film-makers, this technique would become annoying fairly quickly, but Suzuki uses the colours to accentuate the story rather than for visual effect alone. Allmovie.com

She continues to cling to the memory of her late father who left her an unfinished letter, and finds herself unable to adjust to her new lifestyle or make friends. Then one day, she is visited by three bizarre creatures. Japanese Film Database

Friday 9th January at 8:45pm Japan 1967 91 mins Dir: Seijun Suzuki
Seijun Suzuki’s delirious 1967 hit-man film has drawn comparisons with contemporaries Le Samourai and Point Blank and influenced directors such as John Woo, Jim Jarmusch and Quentin Tarantino among others. The story of laconic yakuza Hanada, aka ‘No. 3 Killer’, the third rated hit-man in Japan who takes an impossible job from the mysterious, death obsessed Misako. Hanada bungles the hit and finds himself the target of his employers and a bullet ridden journey leads him to face the No. 1 Killer. Shot in monochrome with beguiling visuals, Branded to Kill is an effortlessly cool crime film with a jazzy score that caused Suzuki to be fired by the studio’s executives but is now rightly recognised as his masterpiece.

RSC: Love’s Labour’s Lost Wednesday 11th February at 6:45pm
Summer 1914. Dedicating themselves to a life of study, the King and his friends take an oath to avoid the company of women for three years – but then the Princess Of France and her ladies-in-waiting arrive. Shakespeare’s sparkling comedy mischievously suggests that the highest of all academic endeavours is the study of the opposite sex. Only at the end of the play is the merriment curtailed as the lovers agree to spend time apart, unaware that the world around them is about to be transformed by war.
RSC: Love’s Labour’s Won (aka Much Ado About Nothing) Wednesday 4th March at 6:45pm
Autumn 1918. A group of soldiers return from the trenches. The world-weary Benedick and his friend Claudio find themselves reacquainted with Beatrice and Hero. As memories of conflict give way to a life of parties and masked balls, Claudio and Hero fall madly, deeply in love, while Benedick and Beatrice reignite their own altogether more combative courtship. Shakespeare’s comic romance plays out amidst the high spirits of a post-war house party, as youthful passions run riot, lovers are deceived and happiness is threatened – before peace ultimately wins the day. Better known as Much Ado About Nothing, the play is performed under the title Love’s Labour’s Won, a name possibly given to it during Shakespeare’s lifetime.
