CASE STUDY Aluminum: Hot Rolling With Small Particle Size QUAKERAL® CH 241 The Challenge
The Benefits
A major Chinese aluminum company producing 3xxx and 4xxx series aluminum alloy clad coils had problems with their current supplier of rolling oil. Issues encountered were:
With QUAKERAL® CH 241, the hot rolling process improved resulting in:
• Bacterial issues in the coolant • Unstable surface quality in their battery material coils • Appearance of black lines in the aluminum
The Solution Quaker Houghton, implemented QUAKERAL® CH 241, a customized hot rolling oil based on their mill configuration. The product was formulated to provide a small particle size and a stable emulsion. Quaker Houghton were able to enhance the hot coil quality and reduce the overall fluid consumption. The customer was satisfied with the service provided.
consumption to 0.27 kg/ton which was 40% • Reduced lower than the competitor product need for additive additions leading to a 50% cost • No reduction for process fluids
• Decreased the free fatty acid to avoid bacterial issues quality battery material (1xxx and 3xxx alloys) • Higher leading to greater customer acceptability
ester to provide better lubrication for rolling these • Hybrid particular type of alloys Breakdown Hot Mill PROPERTY
