CASE STUDY Aluminum: Hot Rolling of Clad Alloys With High Quality Surface Finish QUAKERAL® AHR 100 The Challenge
The Benefits
A producer of aluminum clad alloys was experiencing problems in their rolling process in which gray line defects were detected on their coils with their existing rolling oil supplier.
The Solution Quaker Houghton ran a trial with QUAKEROL® AHR 100, a hot rolling oil with a high ester and medium soaping properties, which was formulated to suit the performance on comparable mill types. Initially, Quaker Houghton encountered challenges with floating oil and pick up, but was able to overcome the issues. In the end, the customer benefitted from the improvement in their process, final product quality and service.
The Product QUAKEROL® AHR 100 is a hot rolling oil based on synthetic polyol esters and petroleum oil lubricants technology. Its superior non-staining lubrication properties provide high oil plate out, consistent emulsion, and excellent protection.
• Substantial reduction of gray line defects quality rejection rate of the final product • Surface decreased significantly to 2%
emulsion management to keep the system • Improved clean
• Use of a hybrid ester for rolling all alloy types costs from lower consumption of rolling oil • Decreased and additives Process and Equipment PROPERTY
