TECHNICAL DATA SHEET QUAKERCOAT® 153
TUBE AND PIPE PROTECTIVE COATING
QUAKERCOAT® 153 is a water-based product, intended for use as a corrosion inhibiting coating on metal, particularly the outer surface of tubes and pipes.
Applications Use standard air spray equipment. Recommended line pressure = 60-80 psi. Recommended pot pressure = 20-30 psi. Clean equipment with QUAKER ADD 020 REDUCER while residue is still wet. Do not allow coating to dry. If coating dries, a mild solvent like Butyl Cellosolve will be needed. Please consult your Quaker Houghton representative for more information on proper coating maintenance.

Product Handling
The following directions and recommendationsare intended to serve as a guide and may require modification to meet local conditions. Mixing: Mix thoroughly when in use or intended for immediate use to insure uniformity.
Cleanup Procedures/Equipment: Rinse equipment well with a mixture of 15% Butyl Cell/PnB/ or IPA in water. Circulate this mixture in the equipment for 15 minutes. Then rinse equipment with 100% water for 5 minutes. Load the coating in the system for application.
Thinning: Use as received. If conditions warrant thinning, use fresh product first to equalize the system. If further viscosity modification is required, use QUAKER ADD 020 REDUCER as directed by a Quaker Houghton representative.
Conditions To Avoid:
Surface Preparation: The substrate must be clean and dry to accept the protective coating properly. Loose debris, dust, oil, or other contamination may degrade product effectiveness and performance. Cure Cycle: Air cure time will vary depending on the temperature, humidity, substrate temperature and wet film thickness. Dry time may be substantially reduced by increasing air flow and temperature across sprayed items or pre-heating the parts to be painted.
Cleanup Procedures/Spills: Rinse with plenty of warm water under pressure. If coating is allowed to dry, then use a solvent like MEK, Toluene or Mineral Spirits to clean small areas. void extreme weather conditions like cold <40ºF or • Aheat >100ºF. If such conditions occur, transfer the coating to an area where the temperature can warrant the coating’s stability and performance.
mixing at speeds above 500 rpms as such speeds • Aarevoidunnecessary and can cause the coating to absorb air and foam up.
over heating the coating above its operating limits • Aofvoid 80 - 100ºF. This can force volatiles to leave faster; therefore causing properties to change.
void over-reducing coating when using QUAKER ADD • A020 REDUCER. This will change viscosity ranges and
reduce solids that can cause a reduction of performance.
