Select a suitable de-foaming formulation Increase temperature, check heaters and temperature gauges Increase concentration Reduce concentration Check oil removal equipment is working Replace cleaning solution, Investigate if the amount of contamination entering the cleaning solution can be reduced - longer drainage, remove with air blowers Investigate and advise of maintenance, De-scale with HOUGHTO-CLEAN 601

Replace with suitable formulation Adjust concentration Increase temperature Increase cleaning time Replace cleaning solution Replace rinses Reduce loading De-scale the cleaning machine with HOUGHTO-CLEAN 601

Incorrect cleaner Concentration too low Water salts too high Poor drying Water entrapment, water pooling Unsuitable storage environment Galvanic corrosion Water hardness is too high, particularly chloride

Replace with cleaner providing sufficient corrosion protection Increase concentration Replace cleaning solutions and rinses, use treated water Check drying equipment efficiency and effectiveness Change orientation of components, use air blowers Change storage environment or use corrosion preventative packaging Clean dissimilar metals separately Replace cleaning and rinse solutions, use treated water

TROUBLESHOOTING PROCESS CLEANERS PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS PROBLEM
NONFERROUS METAL CORROSION
POSSIBLE CAUSES
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Cleaner is too alkaline (e.g. aluminium) Cleaner is acidic (e.g. magnesium) Cleaning duration is too long Cleaning temperature is too high Water entrapment, water pooling Galvanic corrosion Water hardness is too high, particularly chloride
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Replace with suitable lower alkalinity formulation Replace with high alkalinity formulation Reduce cleaning time Reduce temperature Change orientation of components, use air blowers Clean dissimilar metals separately Replace cleaning and rinse solutions, use treated water
1
Incorrect cleaner (mainly for low temperature applications) Concentration too low Contamination too high Cleaning process is left unused for too long
1
Replace with suitable cleaner or temporarily increase the temperature to at least 60°C Increase concentration Replace cleaner and rinse solutions Ensure oil removal equipment is functioning correctly. During factory or process shutdown periods periodically run the machine and if possible raise the temperature of the solutions to 60°C. Remove all surface oil layers from the cleaner solution and rinse. Treat the source of contamination or use the cleaning solutions and rinse at a minimum temperature of 60°C. Act to control the bacteria and fungi before the levels can cause irritation. Check if the contamination (particularly cutting fluids) being cleaned has a high bacteria and fungi content. Undertake regular bacteria and fungi checks
Cleaning machine not adequately ventilated or ventilation not functioning Cleaning machine doors/lid openening too soon after the cleaning process finishes Bacteria and fungi levels too high
